Football and Baseball coach can stay. Baseball coach is elite. Football coach hasn't had time to prove anything.

Both basketball coaches have shown they aren't going to win anything big unless a miracle run happens.
i think the spectrum of reasonable opinions on Banghart is pretty wide, but saying you're less impressed with her job than Belichick's is a nuclear-level bad take.

Well, I will say this whether you like it or not. I think people have forgotten that HD did make it to the NCAA championship game his first year coaching. He also knocked out Duke three times that year and Coach K. He was the last coach to beat Coach K at Duke on his last game at Duke, and he was the coach who beat Duke and put coach K out in the final four game. No other coach, not Roy, not Williams, etc. has ever beaten Duke in the final four. That was the first time in history that Duke and UNC had to play each other in the final four. So he does had a leg up on CB and Bill. Also, if AB would not have gotten hurt his ankle against Duke, UNC would have won the final game under Hubert.

I think the best of the CB era is just getting ready to happen. If we had won those two overtime games
scheduled with no students on campus we would be one game out of first place.

Having the students in the stands to make some noise would have been worth 3 to 5 points. By scheduling the games by the ACC front office it basically killed the homecourt advantage against to of the better opponents.

I keep thinking that as well. If the students would have been as those games. Man, we would only have one lost if we would of won both of those overtime games.

He's been here one year. Nick Saban lost to Louisiana MONROE his year at Bama.

If you took over a dumpster fire program with no talent, do you think you should be fired after year 1?

Where did they say BB should be fired?

Saban took over a team that went 6-7, had a bunch of players suspended midseason, and won 7 games against a peak SEC schedule. He was also 55 and had a track record of success at the level he was working at.

Belichick took over a team that went 6-7, got about 4x the resources his predecessor did, faced one of the easiest schedules in power conference football history, and went 4-8 at the age of 73. These things are not the same.

I did not call for his firing (though it would be justified), but acting like we have no information because he's been here a year is being either willfully ignorant or misleading.

The fans manage to show up to the men's games during this time. Teams that have the winter break has to a deal with this too. It's more of a women's basketball attendance program issue more than anything. It's a result of expansion because the games that used to get played during the break were non conference games. Next season most of the games during the winter break will mostly likely be away games.

CB says they have asked the ACC front office to address this scheduling problem but to no avail.

It should JMO be a shared problem that other schools share the loss in key games...

Louisville and Stanford are too high profile games to be scheduled with no students on campus.

As you say maybe next year those games will be on the road. I hope you are correct.

I did some online research on the ACC scheduling and at least since mid 1980s, the ACC has always scheduled game during the winter break. One of the Maryland games was frequently an early in conference match up. Louisville or ND seem to be the key early conference games lately.

It would probably be awkward to ask ā€œhey can we play BC and Pitt during winter break each year?ā€ :p

it is actually worse for some schools who start the spring semester later.

and we have clearly asked/prioritized playing NCSU and dook as rivals later in the season.

the best opportunity for improvement would probably be figuring out how to push back the ACC tournament enough to play one more game in March, moving it out of December. But it cannot conflict with the Men’s tourney for both fans and ACC Network programming space.

It would not be justified. You're showing bias. The team was left in SHAMBLES.

Oh. And UNC isn't Bama. So yes. Those things aren't the same.

CB’s defensive philosophy & strategic in-game adjustments are her strong suit. Her extreme weakness is offensive approach, execution, and fundamentals. You would think she could find a competent assistant to cover her weaknesses but she has failed to do so since she has been here. I don’t personally know her control approach, so this could be a factor or not.

I agree with you about CB finding an assistant coach that can help if there is an area of weakness. That is what great, seasoned, veteran coaches do. The execution falls on the players; however, if a player does not do what the head coach wants them to do then that problem can be fixed by the coach by taking that player out and put them on the bench. When DK was playing, some posters tried to put the blame on her for dribbling the ball and trying to run the clock out. That is an example of what Flyywhiteguyy is stating about when he talks about her offensive approach.

End of season so lets take stock here:
25-6
2-1 vs triangle rivals
1 ranked win
~15-17 in Torvik
3rd in ACC

I would really like to see us finish strong and make a great run in the postseason, but to me that profile matches about what you would have expected preseason from a young but talented team. Should have beaten Stanford and Louisville but that's life. Pretty good job by CB IMO

Wow, I cannot believe what Kyleheel30 wrote. What planet on you from, bro? Your statement does not make sense. We just beat Duke. We would have beaten them at Duke if the referees would have made a freaking call against them at Duke. The disparity was 27 foul calls for them and 0 foul calls for us. Which means our team was not able to go to the line to shoot any FT's. That was the difference in the ball game. We lost 3 starters last year and at least 60% of the scoring and rebounding last year. AU, MG, and LD. That is a lot to replace with newcomers. Yes, I am going to say newcomers. NH and EA are newcomers to UNC. This is their first year playing under CB and staff. The Freshmen are new this year. The returning players who played vital minutes were RK who has been hurt most of this season, IN and LG. IN and LG contribute some last year. CT barely got off the bench along with LH last year. We all know that we should have beaten Louisville and Stanford. We had those games one and they just did not shoot their FT's very well during that time. Give CB and Staff credit. This year's team has won more games in the conference then last year's team. They have a better record going into the ACCT and they are seeded higher going into the ACCT than last year's team.

CB also stated that she and her staff have been really hard on this team. When UNC calls time outs, you can clearly see the male assistant coaches talking with the players and telling them what adjustments need to be made. This is great to see. In the past, you did not see much of this when CB called a time out.

This team lost 3 starters and will be an higher seed in the ACCT than last year and potentially a 4 seed in the big dance.

Change is not needed.
Really lost 4 starters, all with all-conference awards in their career, when you consider how little Kelly has been physically able to contribute so far this year. Nivar was the only returning starter from last year and her minutes per game were barely starter level. Many fans questioned her starter status last season.

Worth noting that the posts people are calling our were written over 6 weeks ago, right after the Stanford collapse followed by the ND no-show. Someone resurrected the thread to cash some receipts.

I didn't really resurrect to call out anyone so much as to try and take a more objective look now that the regular season is over. I think there were plenty of fair criticisms to be made earlier in the season

agreed, went back through the thread and it was not a call-out, my mistake. And I agree that consternation was valid. I certainly have doubts after a couple of losses.

though i did at least consider resurrecting this thread myself if we are being honest. 😁 So maybe I weas just projecting.

If the players had executed a well designed OB play(2 tries) in one game and made a well designed left
handed layup in another we would have 2 more wins and be tied for first place.

Oh and if we had gotten decent and honest officiating in derm we would have first place all alone.

Just saying

As a fan, I'm incredibly proud of the response of this program after the 2-3 start in the ACC and complete collapse at Notre Dame. I think Banghart, staff, and the entire roster deserve a ton of credit. This season could have easily gone down the toilet, but our squad showed resilience and competed every game after that ND loss. It wasn't always pretty, but there was marked improvement throughout the season. We pulled out some tough Dubs when things weren't clicking (NC State, Syracuse, VT). I thought the first half of the UVA game was the best this team has looked all year. And what a gutsy effort to pull out the Senior Day W against Duke. Every player has contributed in this run. Lanie, Nyla Harris, EA, Nivar, Nyla Brooks, Hull have been huge down the stretch. We're definitely trending in the right direction and there's still upside. I hope Toomey and Henderson can find that next level in their games (they both have higher ceilings). Excited to see this team make a run in the post-season. Great job to Banghart and co. Go Heels!
