North Carolina still being ranked 10 is outrageous.

USC still being ranked with 5 losses is laughable.

The ended the season 9-3 and got crushed by UF 38-10. Simply not worthy of #12. At the end of the day it didn't matter, they were going to the Sugar Bowl no matter what.

Absolute BS. Though I am heavily affiliated with the Tojans and attend their games occasionally, their ranking is not deserved.
What a joke.

If they weren't ranked, then the B1G would have 5 ranked teams against only 2 for the PAC. Politically untenable situation for a somewhat West-heavy committee.

Why would a close loss against the #1 team in the country drop a team very far (if at all)?

Well, I guess I don't think they should have been that high to begin with, so there's that. But adding another loss to a resume that includes no worthy wins I thought would have sealed the deal to fall. In the scheme of things, it doesn't really matter.

I think the bigger impact to NU was WI not being ranked over USC from a strength of wins/schedule standpoint (assuming WI was 26). However, win our bowl game and we probably end up around 10, which is awesome.

Not entirely sure I understand the outrage... Ole Miss had a pretty sound victory over then #21 Mississippi State (were up 38-13 before basically calling off the dogs). It's surely a whole lot better than being in a dogfight with an unranked Illinois team.

You lost me at "then #21". A win over "then #21" anybody is not impressive. It's EXPECTED - at least at this level.

It didn't matter that UNC or Ole Miss were ranked ahead of us. Florida State will be the second ACC team and they were already ahead of us. Oklahoma State takes the B12 spot (they beat TCU for the tie breaker). The SEC was always going to have a second team and Ole Miss was going to be it (unless Florida had upset Alabama). The committee didn't punish teams for losing the Championship games (that's why Iowa dropped only one spot, USC stayed in the poll, and UNC and Florida didn't drop much). They were against tough opponents. UNC, USC, and Florida are supposed to lose to higher ranked teams, so why should they drop? Frankly, the bad loss to Michigan is what kept us down in the polls. We finished ahead of them because of the win over Stanford.

The true last spot went to Florida State. I can see an argument for us over them but they play defense AND offense.

Dogfight? Don't remember Illinois being in that game.
