I just had a bad feeling Carnie going somewhere else was gonna be one we’d regret letting get away. It’s a gut feeling, but I’m happy to avoid that scenario.
What will be interesting to see is how this plays out with the 2022 TE’s from Bellevue West.
I’m still in the camp of Carnie or Rollins switching positions, but won’t say it’s impossible they stay at TE.

Didn't Riley recruit Fant to play DE? The vibe I'm getting from Carnie is that he has no interest in playing defense. I don't see Frost running two TE sets but you never know.

Riley did, but what does that have to do with Carnie being offered..

Fidone could even play wide receiver.. a lot of options for SF..

Since he hasn’t committed yet after getting his long awaited offer...is he now slow playing Nebraska? Winking

Well there is a lot of talk about signing Carnie and then possibly moving him to another position. It appears that Carnie wants to play at Nebraska and that his dream is to play TE in college. If that's the case, one would hope that Frost wouldn't make an offer to Carnie and give him the impression that the coaches also view him as a possible DE or OLB or some other position if TE doesn't work out.

I can almost guarantee Carnie will be allowed to start off as a TE and give it a shot. Then if it’s not working out or hes going to be buried on the depth chart, then maybe he will be given an option to go defense or something else. But I’m sure he will start out as a TE kind of like Hickman did.

I guess this an example of my original point. If my memory is correct, that was the final proposal to Noah Fant. Iowa was committed to him at TE and Riley gave Fant the "we'll give you a shot" pitch.

The difference is Riley isn’t no longer here and Fant was never a Nebraska fan growing up..

Didn’t we lose Noa Fant because Bo wouldn’t offer him a scholarship and when Mike Riley got here he hurry up and did but by that time Iowa had him sold on the Hawkeyes and playing TE there? If I remember right, it was something like that. Had we offered him right out the gates, I’m pretty sure he’d been a Husker. He had no Husker ties but we offered him so late because of Bo.

Sounds exactly how it played out with Joe Burrow too.. Sorry didn't mean to go there.
In regards to Fant, his scouting report was that he was going to be a project. No one saw him becoming what he was, except for maybe Iowa.

Yep, we were all a bit right here. Bo slow played him and Riley and Hughes wanted him as a DE and TE but mostly DE.

"Nebraska is really excited about me at defensive end," Fant said. "The tight ends coach was recruiting me also, but the main talk today was about defensive end because the defensive ends coach was the one that really wanted to talk to me. So I think they're primarily looking at me as defensive end, but then again the tight ends coach is recruiting me also.”

"(Hughes) said he liked my first step off the ball and I have good hands off the ball and good moves. He said my point of attack coming off the edge and setting the edge was pretty good too. He said that's stuff has to come naturally and it's hard to coach in a kid."

Is all of this talk coming from people on the inside, coaches and the like? If not, if it’s just coming from this board, then I don’t think we have much to worry about.
