Celebrating unsung players through the years

Watching the championship ceremony got me thinking back to all the great Bulldog players of the past who didn’t get to experience a Natty, but helped build the foundation and the brand to what it is today. Just thought we could use this thread to mention some of our favorite perhaps unsung Diamond Dawgs through the years.

A couple of mine are Sam Frost and Justin Pigott. Frost was not a great player but in 2013 he because the everyday third baseman out of necessity even though it wasn’t his nature position. He improved his hitting and defense throughout the year and helped us get to the CWS finals.

Pigott started out as a relief pitcher before becoming a starter and pitched the game of his life against Florida State in the regional before winning another game over Clemson in the Super and getting Polk’s final CWS appearance before retiring.

There are plenty of guys like that whose baseball careers ended in the maroon and white, and today is just as much for them as it is for the ones who went on to MLB stardom.

Pigott knocked on my dorm door one night and was like “Hey, I caught these guys stealing stuff.” They were Sherrill players, and they’d stolen **** from me and my roommate a few nights before. We identified them on security cameras with Pigott, filed a police report, then got to watch them waltz around the dorm for the rest of freshman year. But it was fun watching him get good later on and eventually beat Clemson and take us to Omaha.

In Hawthorne (fall of 2000) there was a football player on the third floor who used to turn his music up super loud and then leave. The RA probably unlocked his door like 12 times that first semester to cut his **** out.

Hadn't thought about that in 20 years, but I was on the 5th floor and we could hear it.
