First of all Chicago and Minneapolis are Iowa City north. or hawkeye north. secondly, nowhere has Sophie ever sated she was maga or right wing. she is "middle of the road"- her own words. thirdly I live in Austin area which is a left wing bubble. inside a red state of texas.

CC's fans are nowhere near "right wing or maga". I will acknowledge Sophie has found a fanbase on the right. but CC's fans are mostly liberal. The right and left thing is distorted wildly by distractions her and I think it is by design so we quit talking sports and start talking politics. as if they really needed another distraction. we got it here, though.

also I never said anything about "the most famous athlete on the planet"... I was talking about movies and starpower. those are different. they can be the same if you are OJ simpson I guess. ha ha
Well first of all you are in serious need of a geography class. The rest of what you said I don't feel inclined to respond to.

I have a house in the country. This ain't that. My daughter lives in Lakeview. I spend an inordinate amount of time in the city, and were it not for the wife I'd have a condo overlooking my sailboat in Belmont Harbor. 🙃

So many like to use the terms right wing or Maga when they don't follow the pack. Sophie said absolutely nothing wrong and any and all distortions of that one question answered are the real problem.
I never used the term MAGA in this discussion, but if the shoe fits. We agree on one thing. Sophie said nothing wrong IMO. I agree with her. It's also served to make her a right wing flavor of the week. That's just a fact.

For one - I never said you did. If I wanted to speak on you directly I would have used your name and/or quoted you. And if speaking common sense, standing up for girls/women , and refusing to apologize for any of it makes her a right wing flavor of the week - then good for right wing thought. I'll take her over the vast majority of current left wing heroes.

Draw is a stretch.

"Joking" about ignoring the play earlier this year and going rogue.

It may be a double standard but her opinion created a circus that's followed the team during their recent road trip and forced her teammates to answer for her statements. If you don't think that's a headache then you must not follow sports.
She said something middle of the road which 8/10 people can at least call a viable non offensive opinion. Because it was not perfectly in line with the agenda, she becomes a bigot. That’s not a Sophie problem. One side can say whatever racist drivel they choose to spew, and the other must be quiet and even that is not good enough. Sophie not a draw? Maybe not for the 10 W fans prior to Clark’s arrival. There are so many people who wanted to give this league a chance. This is an opportunity for the league towards solvency. So many of us are disappointed. The league is not about sports. It’s about an agenda. We get plenty of that day to day, and sports are supposed to be a meritocracy that is above social nonsense. I am a sports fan. Iowa athletics and 1 W team because the star player was a generational talent at Iowa. No time for anything else. If this is the W, then I am out. Not sure how you can defend it, but defending it will further doom this league and sports in general.

go outside of the state of iowa sometime and ask the average person on the street if they know CC and then ask if they know sophie. add them up. then in ten years from now, pose the same question.

ok here is my deal: I just came to this league to watch CC make threes. To her credit, she did a fairly good job of it last game. that "step to the left and bury one from way far away", that's pretty cool.

ok, but it's wayyyy wayyy beyond that now. this thing has gotten way off in the weeds. drama. national news. racism. anti gay. anti straight, anti white. And I like this drama more now!!! Sophie is my hero.

I am watching for the drama. love or hate Whitlock, but he pointed out something that I was thinking but never said. He said that CC has some sort of mental issues. watch her body language during the pressers at the end of the game. she is literally a week ago hitting her head on the mic in front of her. when white is talking last game, she is clearly freaking out a little. Whitlock says she is on the "spectrum", I don't know about that, the spectrum is wide now.

what I did notice in college with CC and now the pros, she complains every foul or every non-foul. Now, I do a see a double standard and these refs are blind. but it is her reaction to it, with the "what??!" arms in the position with the hands out facing to the sky. she stands there and does that while the play goes by. personally, this annoys me and I bet it annoys the officials and dang sure annoys the other team. but that part may be good. but she "gets inside her own head". looks like she distracts herself from playing. I even have seen her run up the tunnel and out of the arena. I have seen her even stand there throwing a tantrum while the other player burns right down to other end and scores.

I don't really mind the refs throwing out T's in these situations. the one that got overturned may have been just a casual brush up on the official. maybe she said nothing. but these officials are used to her throwing fits. and they kind of have a right to say something about it, every now and then. yes sometimes they do no calls when they should call it , they are blind. but CC will get another T soon and that is guaranteed. maybe it's payback for past behavior. a cumulative effect. I dunno which, but at some point, CC needs to not act like that. maybe it is in her nature and she cannot stop.
thank god for ignore buttons

She [Caitlin Clark] gets technicals that no one else in the league would get.

She [Caitlin Clark] also gets away with things no one else in the league would get away with.

Like what? Are you being serious

Go easy there on the "Sultan of Spin" lol.

Things as in plural? Go ahead and list them for those of us not as gifted and smart as you.

Like WHAT exactly? This should be entertaining......

Whose the bigger clown? Legend or BigZ? They really believe she's treated fair.

We all are still waiting for Legend's list of things that Caitlin gets away with that no one else in the league would get away with.

I'm really trying not to argue with you, because I think your trying to be a fan {I guess), but your post is so full of holes and ridiculous. Clark is the most recognizable female athlete, (and may be top 5 NON athlete female) in the world. Clark is not on any "decline". You could go most places in the world and people know who she is and many wear her gear. That will only increase by multiples going forward. Her clothing line from Nike is just now rolling out, and her shoe doesn't even go into full distribution for another 6 weeks. She's the biggest female brand on the planet, and one of the bigger brands regardless of gender. For some crazy reason you think because your just a Hawk fan that people dont know her outside of Iowa. Do you know how many fans, and journalists from around the world were pissed that she wasn't in the last Olympics? Those road teams in the W, aren't moving to bigger arenas because of Sophie, and not Angel either. Its Clark who n ot only move the needle, she is the needle. Sophie may have a hard time even staying in the league if the Fever don't resign her, because her statements, (no matter how right the content might be) are burning ALOT of bridges with other teams in this mess of a league. She's a good player, but not good enough for some of these teams front offices to overloook that. Any book she writes might do fairly well amongst a certain segment. When Clark rights a book it will be a best seller read around the world, I'd bet.
its like trying to tell him bigfoot doesn't exist. good luck

See? You finally agree with me on something and aren't just passive-aggressively disagreeing with me to avoid any real confrontation because you know you're winless in a social/political argument with me because I don't operate like the typical right or left people you rub elbows with/get incensed by every day............😉

I appreciate this subdued version of you.

Now if we could just get Legend on board and get him to tone down his need to be the new eyesofhawk correcting everyone in this thread that subjectively (yes, subjectively) defends Caitlin Clark. 🙂

Not shocked you didn’t understand the gif. Again, you’re dumb.

Has anybody stuck up for Sophie in this stupid situation she's in? I see different players agreeing with Carrington but haven't seen even a Fever player stand up for her.

My thoughts are as follows. (In reference to the post above)

Without question, this should be at minimum, a Flagrant 1 foul call. However, there is a major flaw in the poster's presentation. What do I mean by that? The poster greggy.518 could have chosen any other player in the league to illustrate what a similar foul looks like. Instead, he chose Clark, the teammate of Cunningham to illustrate some other point, perhaps piggybacking off of ESPN's picture of Clark and Cunningham on the left side of the screen, while Carrington was pictured on the right side of the screen, following the Flagrant 2 penalty. In plain terms, why drag Clark into a Cunningham/Carrington incident? Video set for comment on this:

After the Carrington incident people in the stands were chanting "SOPHIE ... SOPHIE ..." and this was, ofc, in Chicago. I'd qualify that as being a draw.

You seem to acknowledge it's a "double standard" that other WNBA players can voice their political/social opinions, like for example "abolish ICE" in the case of Stewart and others, but when Sophie speaks up it's problematic. So for that reason you seem to say Sophie caused the problems and should have remained silent.

IMO, the problem lies not with the opinion originators like Sophie and Stewie, but with the selective follow up and scrutiny from the pundits and media. The media are forcing the questions on Sophie's teammates, but somehow not on the teammates of other opinionated WNBA players. Funny how that works. So where's the problem?

And let’s remember Sophie's opinion is actually very mainstream. Should go to figure then this "controversy" is very manufactured.

Sophie's spotlight will dry up the second she and Caitlin play on separate teams. That's why she's cashing in while she can.

I'm not going to debate the validity of Sophie's opinion or how popular it is. My point is she chose to speak on a hot button topic and created a whirlwind of attention and rallies that the rest of her team has had to deal with.

Intentional or not she's created headaches off the court. Which is why I wouldn't be shocked if the Fever trade her or let her walk in the offseason.
