I don’t follow as closely as many of you. What are your thoughts about the ashnault to Iowa pipeline? Duffy’s taking his talents to Iowa City to wrestle for Tom Brands and the Hawkeyes next year. He joins Rumson-Fair Haven two-time state-champ Sonny Amato as well as his CBA teammates Sean and Paul Kenny, plus former Brick Memorial state champ Harvey Ludington as one of the top pipelines to one of the nation’s top programs

I don't think Ashnault was heavily involved in the process. He's not pushing guys to Iowa if thats what you mean
i would think he would push them towards princeton
If your goal is to be a National or Olympic champion, which coaching staff could help more in getting there? That was the deciding factor for some of those wrestlers. Our coaching staff does not hold the same gravitas as those programs unfortunately. IMO
These kids are super athletes but there is life after wrestling and Iowa doesn’t even rank in the top 100 academically. I don’t get it. Plenty of B10 programs offer great wrestling and solid academics.
Do you know what they will all study? Because Iowa has some decent programs. I know you've said this before and we had this discussion already. And you were given rankings for universities but you dismissed those. You will die on this hill I see
Acceptance rates…national rankings…not to mention near the bottom of the B10 academically. Unless you are telling me these wrestlers are going for nursing, audiology, insurance or creative writing there is no hill = just quick research. There is no money in wrestling unless your name is David Taylor or Jordan Burroughs. Quality of education should matter more to these kids especially when wrestling will get them into schools they otherwise would have no shot at. Just my opinion which I recognize means nothing.
It’s not an Ashnault pipeline to Iowa. The Kenny’s loved Iowa on their visit and I think Duffy is following them, even if he’s getting there first.
We need to be all over Shiloh Joyce, freshman at 113. That kid is an animal.

Corby would probably know best, but imo Iowa fumbled the bag big time losing out on Bassett/Miller…
Shiloh feisty as hell. He’s gotta get a lot bigger as I think he’s an old(er) freshman. Supposedly he’s transferring to SJR.
If his goal is to use his wrestling to get into a great academic university or college, he'd be best served to stay at CBA. The academics are a grind, but they prepare you for the next level.
You realize Iowa has revenue sharing that allows them to pay the wrestlers $ without NIL Go. 1.5 million would mean average of 150k year per starter. At 2 million you could keep 500K for the other 20 athletes as well. Rev share teams will have a big advantage going forward if NIL Go stays a thing.
Rutgers is capped at the same amount of revenue sharing as all other Big Ten schools. They can use the 20.5 in the manner they choose. Keli has said Wrestling is participating in revenue share funds.
Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Michigan have stated they are not directing revenue share to wrestling. Their focus is football as it brings in the big bucks. If football makes money, they believe they will have more money to distribute throughout the athletic department. Also Sanderson has asked that his revenue share funds go to scholarships and not directly to athletes. These schools are relying on NIL mostly from businesses as compensation for athletes. It is important to note that NIL and revenue share are different. NIL mostly comes from businesses. Revenue share from the university.
I am impressed with what Billy Ashnault is accomplishing at CBA. Delbarton, CBA, and Blair are schools where academics matter. It is interesting that these are three of the top wrestling schools in NJ.

Delbarton does the runaround academically. If an athlete can’t get in with their middle school grades Delbarton has them repeat 8th grade at Delbarton prep and the school automatically accepts everyone from Delbarton prep. Pretty sure Sontz did this
My understanding for Rutgers is they will get an increase in scholarships. The rumors were Cael took scholarships then an article was released saying Penn st wrestling received 1.45 million in rev share.
That's the reason Iowa can pay rev share without NIL Go because they're different. Rev share are direct payments from the university and NIL has to pass the clearinghouse. And the average NIL deal is under 10K now with NIL Go
Everyone’s circumstances are different but almost anyone can get into Iowa without being a wrestler. If the kid wants the cash go for it. However, a degree from a top 50 school is likely worth a lot more once the wrestling days are over. I’m sure there are some kids that have no aptitude or desire to put time into the classroom which is fine. I’ve always been a believer in using sports to get into a school the kid would otherwise never have a shot at. Wrestlers from Columbia and Princeton def aren’t geniuses = But they get jobs on Wall Street and in Corporate America because of the alumni network. In the end there really isn’t a right answer and I have no beef with a kid that wants to wrestle for Iowa and collect a bag of cash.
There is no Delbarton prep. Middle school is impossible to get into because after the legacy slots there is almost nothing left plus they no longer give financial aid for middle school. Most of the kids will hold back and prep for admissions at a homeschool/training program. There are definitely athletes admitted that don’t have stellar transcripts but it’s really no different than how the Ivies handle admissions.
I think you are mistaken. In an article on nittanysportsnow.com it said “Sanderson intends to use available resources to increase the number of scholarships for his wrestlers”. For last year (2024-45 fiscal year prior to the House v NCAA settlement) Penn State disclosed that wrestling received 1.4 million in NIL. It is unrelated to Revenue Sharing that was effective 7/1/25.
I have not seen anything in writing or heard that Rutgers is using revenue sharing for scholarships for wrestling. Keli has said that she hopes to be able to use future revenue sharing for scholarship.
It is difficult to get current and accurate information so please provide any corrections or updates.
I hope that the Big Ten will require all member schools to disclose how they will distribute revenue sharing.

I agree, our coaching staff just doesn't have the accolades these other staffs do. Now couple that with our almost nonexistent Wrestling Club (which was pretty decent/good at one point) and a lot of high-profile kids are going to be turned off. To get these types of kids, we'll have to grossly overpay.
Yeah, but loosing kids like this doesnt elevate our team. Im Goodales biggest critic, but if we are to comapare...resumes, funding, tradition, and academics, Rutgers is fairing better than Iowa as of right now. Also, I dont know Billy Ashnault, but I wonder if there is no loyalty on his part to Rutgers. Not one recruit from CBA? That is not good.And you cant use the Iowa tradition thing here as this has been the worst years in Iowa Wrestling history.Thank God they have that shady real estate investor bankrolling the NIL, because they would contending with Michigan State and Maryland for last place.
I think there are donors that would poney up if they believed that the leadership had a plan. IMO
The plan should be to hir a TOP Associate Head Coach to take Donny P. spot from a year ago.
The PA Coaches RU hired have made good progress in recruiting, imo they need a top technician to train the wrestlers.
Palumbo is from CBA but IMO he’s not B10 level. Hope Goodale sees something I don’t and proves me wrong. Or if he’s a practice room guy that’s fine too.
The article says Rev share for the last FY. It doesn’t address this FY that is post the House v NCAA settlement. Keli said she to increase scholarships in the future. She is the only credible source and could have changed her thinking. If she did, I stand corrected.
Rev share wasn't even around in 24-25. The #s were for this year.

Nini was a CBA kid, as is Palumbo. It’s not Billy’s job to send kids to his Alma mater. His job is to develop kids to the best of their abilities and guide them in the direction that best suits them.
Nowadays high school coaches have very little role in connecting with colleges. In every sport other than football, college coaches connect more at the club level since there’s a larger group of prospects in one place. Other than places like Blair and Delbarton, you’re probably not getting a room full of elite prospects at one school. High school coaches generally build connections with lower level college programs to get depth/underrecruited kids spots at the next level.
Saying "not one recruit from CBA" when there have been 3 since Billy got there is kind of disingenuous.
