Yeah Baby!!! Great Decision Hunter & Welcome to Evanston! He was 5 star in the 2017 class....because of NU bias, I wonder if Rivals will change that to 4 star retroactively ;)

Looking forward to seeing him in 2019. For 2018, I’m thinking the scout team QB reps for the defense will be top notch!

Not sure if serious, but I don't know that I would trot him out there for scout team reps. Don't need him catching a knee injury or something flukey.

No, Hunter Johnson isn’t a grad transfer and won’t be available until the 2019 season, but at the very least, Northwestern has its next quarterback star.

If all goes according to plan, Clayton Thorson’s knee injury will be healed up enough to go to start this season, he looks and plays like a future NFL starter, and then Johnson is ready to step in and be ready to roll.

So it’s off to Northwestern, where his passing skills and great speed should make him one of the Big Ten’s biggest stars right away. At the very least, he’s one of the program’s best recruits in a long, long time, even if it took a while to get him.

I'm telling you guys. Clemson fans hated to see him leave. You're getting a very good quarterback, great head on his shoulders, cannon for an arm, and is fast, able to get out of trouble and pick up a few yards. There was no problem at Clemson whatsoever, but he saw the writing on the wall with Trevor Lawrence coming in. Great kid, great family. Congrats. Now go kick OSU's butt!!!!!!

2 months ago the sky was falling; now we have the most highly touted QB to ever enroll in the program coming in (at the same time we currently have the winningest QB in program history playing his final season).

Next couple of years could be very special.

The next question is can HJ break the records CT sets?

I'm just hoping it's not possible because CT wins another big bunch of games this year.

But yeah, HJ has the chance to be special for us.
There are several records. Some are based on longevity, some based on a years performance and some based on the offense at the time. For example, CT did not throw that many TDs as a Frosh so total TDs could be in play. TDs in a season. Yds in a season , etc. Total wins would be hard unless we went for 3 NCs

We hate to see Hunter Johnson leave the program but it is understandable. Too much talent to be on the bench. Go Cats.

Not just a 5 star QB but he was ranked number 1 or 2 at the position in his class (the most important position in college FB). Hopefully he gets his shot in a NC game.
Hold on. Gladeskat says 5 stars aren't a viable measure of success. You are following Evanstoncat wisdom. Gladeskat can keep dreaming about the 2 and 3 star QB's, as for me, I'll appreciate the hard work our staff put in to land such a stud.

Too many things were in alignment for HJ to not pick NU, but you never know what goes into a kid's decision, so couldn't be happier about the news; esp. as some PU fans were absolutely sure he was headed for West Lafayette - speaking of which, Brohm picked up a QB commit from Cali shortly thereafter w/ some decent offers (so a consolation prize of sorts).

Now to add another weapon (or 2) for HJ to throw to in addition to Kirtz.

Really hope we see some progress in the development of the O-line (which could be the factor in being winning the West as opposed to being runner-up, or winning the B1G as opposed to losing in the title game).

Over the course of the past 5-6 years, opportunity was ripe to win the BIGW as Wisky went thru a # of coaching changes (not just the HC, but at DC) not to mention starting a young QB, NEB and Minny going thru their issues w/ UI and PU being a complete trainwrecks (and Iowa being Iowa - solid, w/ a run at the B1GW every 3-5 years).

Wisky is bringing in more athletes to go along w/ their big boys up front, expect Frost to make NEB a contender in the West again (even if they no longer have dominant defenses like in the past, their O should be putting up a lot of points) w/ PU, Minny and even UI on the upswing.

So things are getting tougher in the West.

If HJ is everything he is made out to be; then the 'Cats should be in the thick of it for the next 2-3 years.

247 had this to say in their article of HJ picking the 'Cats.

Northwestern’s recent history of putting quarterbacks in the NFL (Trevor Siemian, Mike Kafka, Clayton Thorson next spring) was appealing to Johnson, who sees an opportunity to sit for a year and emerge as a frontrunner next spring to replace Thorson.

May be just conjecture on the author's part, but probably didn't hurt (the NFL seems to be HJ's goal).

Otoh, the lack of getting O-linemen to the NFL probably hasn't helped things on that front.

Not conjecture. QB coaching and the path to the NFL was the #1 factor here.

This is remarkable news that would have been considered impossible a decade ago. I can only assume NU has agreed to add a slide to the Fitz Mahal in order make Mr. Johnson more at-home in his new surroundings.

What a get! - Go Cats!

What a get indeed!

I'm not sure about this being impossible a decade ago though. Don't get me wrong, this is a huge get and I'm ecstatic, but look at who we beat out. Purdue and Duke. We beat those schools out for kids all the time. It would have been a monumental upset had we not landed him. It'd be one thing to land him out of HS when the world is in play and a kid is all starry eyed and not always thinking straight. Another thing entirely with a kid who knows a lot more about what he is looking for. NU has always been a destination for transfers from blue blood programs. Kustok. Cerasani, Roehl. Prater. Jovan "Grenade" Witherspoon. Basically, we are the smart choice once kids figure out they made a mistake and are older and wiser.

Rivals had him as the No. 2 QB (behind Stanford’s Davis Mills) and No. 18 overall recruit in the 2017 class.

  1. Looks like ECat's "litmus test" came out Purple! - Welcome to "Moose" Hunter Johnson!
From the Bryce Kirtz Watch thread:

  1. "We could certainly use some karma on the quarterback front.

The pictured cow and calf ran out in front of my vehicle yesterday."

  2. Does a moose sighting have anything to do with transfer commitments?????

  3. 3 GECat2, May 27, 2018

  4. Does a moose sighting have anything to do with transfer commitments?????

  5. Alaskawildkat:

  6. Maybe there is a transfer-mative property?"
Today's [Bryce's] commitment is certainly good news on the karma front.

(There were multiple Moose sighted so ..... we can still hope for the quarterback commitment to be a beneficiary of the Mojo Moose Karma as well.)

EvanstonCat:
If Hunter Johnson is a Cat, then I'll give the moose some credit. This is the litmus test.
