What a day for NU: they christen Ryan Fieldhouse and land Dominick D’Antonio, an OL from Woodstock (Ga.) Etowah.

Dominick's junior video features lots of pancakes and forcing defenders way, way beyond the LOS.

That kid is a mountain of strength and power. He can develop his technique quickly. You cannot teach that type of strength, nor necessarily breed it in the weight room.

Wonder why the young man wasn't on more recruiting radar screens?

He has 21 offers and has played only a dozen HS football games. I think he has caught the attention of a lot of people. Other P5 schools will offer this kid once they see his senior tape.

Really? Rivals shows 13 and 247 fewer. I'm glad the committed to NU, great choice for his next 40+ years.

It’s still early in the recruiting season, and NU landed another O-lineman. This is a good thing, regardless of the star ranking. If you trust Fitz & Co.’s talent evaluation, the fact Dominick was offered when he was means the staff thinks highly of him.

Excellent news. Welcome!

Definitely need some 4* recruits if they want to be challenging for the championship.

I thought his jr tape was impressive, quick down the field tons of pancake blocks and you can only assume that some of the guys he was playing against were a year older with much much more football experience. I understand you can't build a championship team with all hopes and dreams recruiting but this guy has size and quicks.

I'm very pleased to get Dominick. There's a lot to work with in terms of physical attributes. Like others, I'm expecting him to blow up big time his senior year. Thank goodness for the early signing period.

Impressive athleticism but raw as a football player, which is to be expected given how little he has played. Several things jumped out watching some highlights including poor timing of the snap count, hand placement and his balance. Plenty of room for improvement and I would not be surprised if he improves dramatically in his senior season now that he has spent an entire offseason dedicated to football.

Well, he actually hasn't signed anything yet, has he? He just took advantage of the early official visit period, which is a great move for a school like NU.

And he is not a small human:

Of course he hasn't signed anything yet, but turning his verbal into a signature is the next step, and the sooner the better.

Here is a pic of D'Antonio as a 6'4" 225 lb catcher, along with his scouting report, as a baseball player:

Young mechanics receiving and in his footwork, very good raw arm strength, low throwing slot will have to raised in his development, 2.00 best pop time, has the physical tools to continue to improve. Right handed hitter, hits from a spread bent knee stance, late hand load, lift and replace front foot, short swing, tries to stay inside the ball too much and will dip under, works midfield to opposite field, has the strength and size to expand his swing and look to drive the ball. Two-way prospect as a pitcher, arm is loose with sound upper body mechanics, simple repeatable delivery. Upper 70's fastball, has been up to 82 mph this summer keeps his fastball down in the zone with good running and occasional cutting action. Short breaking slider shows promise. Very good student.

The take-away from all this is that he is very good athlete.
