That seems to be the rumor. Now the question will be, if he tries to play in spring semester and then head to NBA June 2022... which will hurt us for next season.
It sounds like he’s going to play in the Fall.
This is the speculation, but nobody has explained how he'll be eligible next year. Has he already graduated high school? Because the NBA season has already started, and at least one season has to pass after your high school graduation in order to be eligible for the draft.
He has to be one year removed from high school. I think he has to come back.
Also, I thought when this news came out that he would just be coming in to get a jump start and not playing. Has that changed and I missed it?
Today, KSR is saying there are reports he wants to enroll "in 2 weeks," so they're speculating he'd play if he's joining this early.
He wont be eligible unless he graduated before the nba season started, which he didnt. There is a huge thread on this on here. If Cockburn wasnt good enough to join the team, why would Cal play him halfway through the season? There is a log jam on the roster as is. He was going to practice with the team after January. What's changed?
Gotcha. Appreciate it. I wouldn’t worry about it until it happens. I think this will be a Diallo situation and he will come early to learn the system and get ahead for the next year, like Diallo.
I do have to agree, though, that while joining mid season it makes sense to sit out, if he is on the team the WHOLE YEAR and good enough to be not just a starter but a star... why sit?

You have to graduate one year removed from the nba season, from what I understand from the other thread. The season has already started. So I dont think he can.
Matt Jones (I know, I know...) said he's hearing from some that Sharpe would be eligible for the draft. And wasn't disputing it or casting doubt on that as just a rumor.
Or be 19 before the draft. Pretty sure he will be 19 before the draft.
Matt Jones said Travis Graf said it. I didn't look hard but couldn't find anything about Graf saying it publicly.
Calipari wouldn't want to 'take anyone's heart away.' This will backfire if he plays him.
Graf did write that Sharpe will be eligible for the 2022 draft. Sounds like Cal will play him to get what he can out of him. (smh)

My fear is that he comes for the practicing/facilities/weight program and then leaves without playing a minute. That would be worst case scenario.
Jones saying he will be playing in 2 weeks against Dook in the Garden battling for the #1 pick in the Draft. He said it’s better to get him this season then not at all. Maybe that’s why there’s a thread on CAL back tracking about platooning this season.
If he comes in two weeks, he's playing. And if he plays a full season, he's gone after it. So we get him for this year instead of next year.
I'm not sure which is better. We'd be so deep and good at the guard spots this year which bodes well for the tournament. But what does it do to chemistry and how do you distribute the minutes? And doesn't this sort of blow up what's being put together for next year?

Here's the kicker though: Thon Maker was able to show he had "graduated" a year earlier, but stayed in high school on some sort of BS Post-grad program.
I'm betting we find out that there's a similar wrinkle for Sharpe, who is a 5th year senior.

It's one thing to be here for 3-4 months and sit. It's another to be here the entire season and do it. I can't see that happening.

It all depends how good he is. If he’s not better than what we have, I don’t see how this would make sense. If he is, then let’s roll.
We will have some unhappy guards and likely transfers if this happens.
Shaedon Sharpe turns 19 in May of 2022. That alone would make him eligible. He also is from Canada. I am assuming he has completed, what us in the United States, would be "12th grade" as Canada has 13 years before graduation. I would guess that makes him eligible for the 2022 NBA Draft. The question is...does he play for UK in 2021? Otherwise, he likely doesn't play for UK at all.
If he helps us win #9 this year then who cares about the following year.

It’s KSR trying to stir the pot. I believe he’s playing next season until Sharpe says otherwise. We don’t even know for sure if Sharpe is enrolling in two weeks.
I’m done with KSR, their articles lately seem to be trying to drive a wedge between the basketball fan base and the football fan base. When they should be pumping up both sports to get hits on their site, instead they put out trash like they have been lately

What was the situation with Hami Diallo? Seems like he was eligible for the NBA draft after graduating and enrolling mid-season. The NBA let him declare for the draft.
I don't really get the sense that the NBA is too strict with their rules on draft eligibility. If it's a close call they let them declare. At least that's what it seems like to me. Is there a situation where a kid tried to declare and the NBA told him no?
