Ask every single person on this board if they would have left college after a year if offered the money NBA lottery picks get and 100% of them would leave. Imagine a computer science major getting a job offer from Google after their freshman year that paid $3 million guaranteed for 3 years where Google would continue to teach them to code. That's what these players get, their career just happens to be playing basketball. They get paid and continue to improve their skillset while in the league.
Of course. I mean I get why people feel that way. It’s probably extremely selfish but that’s what it boils down to.
College basketball has changed. Most players don’t stay multiple years. Especially high-level athletes. It is what it is. As long as they win I don’t care

They are not his kids and his responsibility is to his employer. He is delusional for thinking otherwise. Now that his high school recruiting has fallen off the cliff he is relying on the Portal- plug and tape. That is not building a consistent team that UK deserves.
Not

I knew that would be your response.....Do they have selection Sunday program to see where the doubles are playing?
It doesn’t matter. Just a point that players should be able to go pro whenever they want regardless of what fans want. Has zero to do with format.

No problem with that whatsoever. But shouldn't it be noted when a recruit disrespects his destination school, whether intentionally or not, on television?

I can agree with that but I would have to know what the disrespect was. If Sharp and Cal agreed to sit and play next year, but then his draft stock exploded, then I wouldn’t consider that disrespect. It’s change in information.

If Cal tells him to go, that’s on Cal.

if he never planned on playing and lied to Cal, that’s on the student.

if he never planned on playing and Cal knew this, that’s on Cal.

I just don’t know what the truth is

We’ve been kidding ourselves for the last 7 years. He’s done nothing but self promote and bastardize the greatest sports program in the World. We’ve been used, abused, misused, lied to, pawned since day 1. He’s mocked fans, he’s flippant with reporters, even the good ones. He’s arrogant, standoffish all the while flying around the Country on his Pat Myself of the Back tour when he should be busting his *** coaching and working. Eddie Sutton caught hell for what happened under his watch but he might have been the best “coach” in my lifetime. Calipari couldn’t coach a grade school girls basketball team to a church league title.
Just curious....but based on your posting name.....were you a Cal fan that have changed your tune over the years like so many others?

Just to clarify, by disrespect I meant what Wallace said. It just seemed like he doesn't take UK seriously at all. It was a bit dismissive.

Possible but he’s a 17-18 year old kid looking at his future. If I was offered that quickly, I would have jumped on it as well. I’m damn sure I never said the right things all the time at that age.

With the handlers these guys have, they should have more accountability. And saying what he said reveals that he holds UK in lower regard.

If the players don’t care about the program and the coach doesn’t care about the program, it’s a hard ask for me to spend any time or money supporting the team. Sorry if that hurts your feelings
you cannot hurt my feelings but if you do not want to support the team again i say BYE

Guys like MKG and Wall had to be told by Cal they *had* to leave, and they were guaranteed top 5 draft picks.

You think that’s the same as “I can’t wait to get out of there ASAP”? The same as Sharpe not even being willing to play? We’ve come a long way smh.
Let's be real, neither planned on coming back. I think you're using a story about Boogie.

I’d love for you to link me a single clip where a Duke recruit said his goal was to get out of there as soon as possible.
I'm referring to them saying K could help prepare them for the pros the quickest and best, for their one year.

We were mostly ok with it while we were killing it.

How is that jackass? Those players are just as much mercenaries for Duke as they are UK. So explain how he got me please. It'd take a lot more than words to make me fold.

Ironic that you're the one that folded like a cheap suit, and embarrassing. Don't be so quick to put on your cape next time. It don't fit you. Don't pick the wrong dude to attack either. Now hold that L.

Edit- I don't like being a dick like this, my PTSD got my hands shaking in anger right now like crazy and I become super aggressive. Still waiting for an answer though.

When Cal had true competition in CUSA (2000-2005 before UL, UC and Marquette left) he was 115-55 for 67% with 1 conference title.

UK made him a HOFer
C’mon. If Cal had stayed at Memphis in 09-10, he would have had Wall, Cousins, and maybe even Bledsoe. He was the first to embrace the OADs. I’m not saying being at UK didn’t provide some pretty big advantages over Memphis, but he already had a championship game, plus a final four at UMASS under his belt.

IMO, had he stayed at Memphis, he would have had it rolling there. Yeah, yeah…….I know the sanctions stuff, but that doesn’t take away with what he was able to accomplish.

first off, times have changed with NIL. these guys are getting paid which means its fair game to be harsh as f*** on them. they are legally adults and getting paid.

second, athleticat , no sh*t, no player wants to deal with fans when its something negative because NO ONE wants to deal with people telling them they did wrong just in general. But good freaking god, any good program whether its NBA, NFL, MLB or college teams , fan bases wont put up with players acting too good for the program and its fans .

its absolutely the culture cal has created because his pitch easily attracts players that it doesnt mean as much to them like players of the past, they see it as just a pit stop so if they dont win big, who cares, they can just start focusing on the NBA. When fox said cal doesnt care about winning, he cares about getting players ready for the NBA first and foremost............ yeah that sh*t is psychological ... if winning isnt all, most players wont give 150% to win........... players wont dive for the ball because an injury means loss of future revenue.......

Then you have the culture barnhart created with 20 years ago coming in and keeping boosters away ... now we are sh*t with NIL (listening to matt jones, we're in serious trouble unless boosters come together fast) well with boosters being kept at distance, they dont feel as much a part of the program, and when you need to rally them together, its a mess ... with NIL being allowed the chickens have come home to roost Mitch... seeing how cheating doesnt matter anyways, doing away with the good ole boy network was massively stupid.
