Surprise of the year for me. I envisioned him be one of those hard workers who maybe gets some playing time his redshirt senior year. LOTS OF YOUNG TALENT ON THIS TEAM. just gotta do a better job calling the game on both sides of the ball!

He's a big strong kid and playing well. I have more confidence that players will improve than the coaches will. I can never remember a time when somebody said "these coaches are getting a lot better."

That D-Line is far superior to last year, and we really can't blame Chins too much right now. Our Offense continues to be the suck fest. Our young D-Line is pretty stout.

It is amazing that the D-line is better this year since last season there was 3 guys who are all on active NFL rosters.

Agreed. I think Coach T is doing a great job. They are stout in the run game. Had a few hiccups, but not mad at what I see from the D thus far.

The key here is "thus far" our Offense continues to blow like it does right now. Your going to see some regression.

Our problem lies in that our quarterback is not a passing threat. When you are not multiple you can't look good on offense, because you become predictable. This also falls on the coaches not making our players better. Adrian Martinez looked best as a Freshman. His progressions are extremely slow, and he does not know how to lead a receiver.

McCaffrey is the better option at this point, for two reasons

1. His decision making and release time is better for what our offense is

2. He is a 10x's better runner

I agree with this.

There are two really significant things that are holding back the team right now. Number 1 by far is the poor passing by Martinez. Number 2 is the penalties being incurred on the offense. Fix those two and we'd be decent.

Right now I don't agree with people who say that the WR corp is necessarily weak. When you can't get the ball to them, they just haven't been tested enough to be judged.

That's what I'm saying, because on my TV screen I never see the receivers were running their routes. I have nothing to reference to

Number 3, Frost has no feel for calling plays.

Number 4, stop taking shots with your bad/slow tight ends and walk on WR.

The fact that we could not even get Wandale the ball for multiple quarters, Frost should have been Lane Kiffened on the O’Hare tarmac.

WRs are fine. When Luke was in there they looked good! They play down for AM. He is what is handicapping our growth at receiver. Frost proves his coaching worth this weekend. If he starts Luke, there's hope. If he starts AM, then I I give up. Because clearly he has too.

Interesting that two years ago we had two receivers with over 800 yards at receiver with AM throwing the ball. Could it be that those two receivers had far superior coaching from the previous staff then current receivers have gotten under Frost?

I like him and a lot of the young guys on D. The offense, not so much.
That's the odd thing, the offense sucks, so something is missing, but there are alot of young players to be excited about on that side of the ball:

Luke McCaffrey (FR)
Wandale Robinson (SO)
Cam Jurgens (SO)
Bryce Benhart (FR)
Marcus Fleming (FR)
Zavier Betts (FR)
Ethan Piper (FR)
Turner Corcoran (FR)

This offense should be good now and downright scary in the future, yet it is terrible. Perplexing.

Um, so, uh, Frost and company were the previous staff 2 years ago. Maybe. I think. I could be wrong.

Two years ago Martinez could throw with some accuracy and DCs didn't know he can't read cover 3.

Needs to be Luke's team going forward, we've seen what the average is for Adrian. He's got a chronic case of the yips. Luke is too aggressive but the hope is you can teach him to be smarter about that. If a guy doesn't have an edge, good luck honing one.

The DL as a collective is better. I think the biggest change is how much we are rotating guys in the front seven. It is helping people stay fresh all game long. Last year there were games where you could tell the Davis twins were gassed. Their production fell off sharply in the second half because of it. Great adjustment by Tuioti.

Agree. Luke needs to lead the team and I want to see all the young receivers in there. Fleming, Brown, Betts, etc as well as get Wandale involved. Kid is too dynamic not to create something for him.

Our coaches have recruited their asses off for the trenches on both side of the ball. We WILL get better IF our offense can get out of it's own way and EXECUTE. It's really that simple. IMO, amazingly QB is our weak leak right now. Shocks the hell out of me really.

Or they were fast guys with a ton of experience who could get open. IMO, our WR play is going to get better as we get the young guys more involved. Part of our problem right now is the lack of quality WR depth from upper classmen. Some of that lies with Riley's recruiting, the coaching transition and Troy Walters.

Two years ago we had a different QB who just happened to have the same name.

Yes, I would say on the positive side the biggest surprise to me this year has to be the DL. It surprises me after losing the veterans and the elder Daniels to graduation. There's hope for the defense, they just need to come up with some OLB's that can rush the passer effectively. That's the thing they're still missing the most.
