2 catches for 11 yards last year from our highly rated TE in the 2024 class. Instead of coming into his own and ready to really step up in year 3, he’s changing to a brand new position. Compared to TE, he is now competing against better athletes with more experience at the WR position.

I hope he makes it. The list of 4 star offensive players that don’t live up to that rating for us is longer than it should be.

Sounds like Dana is running more 4 receiver 0 Tight End packages and Dana discussed Carter Nelson with the tight end group so not sure what's going on.

I listened to the interview and my takes:

1. He talked about being disappointed in the TE room and almost immediately brought up Carter Nelson. Sounds like there's disappointment there but also gave the standard hope talk for Nelson because it's year 3 and as a TE, it takes a bit longer (even though he changed positions). I'm shelving my hope for Carter until he proves otherwise.

2. What an absolute INDICTMENT of Satterfield. Dana is upset with the TE group this summer, and then completely REMOVES them from the field. Every time I want to give Rhule another chance I hear something like this and wonder how he can have his buddy STILL on staff after failure everywhere. Just losing our 2nd Round NFL TE a few years ago was bad enough (and not getting that kind of production out of him). Slack jaw must go. Buddy hire, buddy keep.

3. RB Room: Good to hear he has zero concern with this room. Dana seems like he would be honest here (not coach speak) and he feels good about it so that helps a bit. (OL helps)

4. Speed: Nice to hear we have some WR burners beside Barney that make Dana smile about the possibilities there.

Dana mocked Satt publicly upon being hired, too. In his very first presser as OC (hilarious)

I fear he is just cashing checks because when he was in charge there’s no way in hell he’d work with Satt for even 5 minutes

He made one comment about being disappointed in the TEs in June and July. He went on to talk about how he’s since lit a fire under their butts. Spoke highly of Lindenmeyer and Bonner. Dana seemed unusually positive about the offense. Very happy with Colandrea.

Satt needs to go. It’s rarely a net positive for a program keeping coaches who have failed as spectacularly as Satt or Ed Foley have.

The visual is Nebraska is a check cashing service for failures at best and a grifters money machine at worst. Great work if you can get it or have a buddy with unlimited access to the golden goose.

Satt’s contract was reduced significantly this past year. Despite our animosity over him as OC he’s widely respected as a TE coach and recruiter. I don’t have a problem with him remaining on staff. Now that he’s not calling plays, I don’t think he’s a detriment to our team. I AM surprised that he would want to stay at NU after his demotion but nobody else of significance is likely to hire him as an OC. Say what you want, Lindenmeyer has developed with his coaching.

It seems to me that when the position group that is your sole responsibility is so disappointing that the OC decides to remove your entire group from the field and gameplan without them then, yes, your presence is detrimental to the team.

That comment was specifically referencing a time period in early summer where Satt wasn’t allowed to coach them. People are blowing that comment way out of proportion.

Satt was a failure at South Carolina- they wanted him gone. He golden parachuted here with a very healthy raise and avoided being fired there. Fidone was a huge flop here, one of highest recruited players in last 10 years- Same for Nelson so far. Satt was massive failure here- his family isnt here- send him on his way he is still overpaid. Hear Hes nice guy- but we need to win now

I don’t disagree that he failed as an OC. I’m in an awkward position supporting him as a TE coach. That said, other people in college football view him as a good TE coach. Personally I think King Kong could coach TEs for us and if the OC is worth a shirt we would be fine.

Thank you, and everyone in this thread, for proving me right about NE HS recruits. We need LESS of them and more kids from TX, GA, CA, etc. I’ll admit I can’t be mad at us offering CN, everyone else did, but don’t tell me that him going up against a bunch of slow midgets in HS isn’t a reason why he’s done NOTHING in 3 years lol. The dude isn’t a big boy p4 player, period.

Not trying to dispute this or argue - I'm trying to see if I am out of the loop. Honest question - How do we know he is widely respected as a TE coach?

My view:

- He gets credit for making Heinrich a TE - albeit, he was average in my opinion. A lot of us had higher hopes because of his physique and athleticism. He was okay, but few if any outside of Lincoln know the guy as a TE IMO. I don't see bragging rights here.

- Carter Nelson has done nothing - and now changed positions. Close to a bust, TBD. Nice recruiting win, 0 development thus far that we know of.

- Lindenmeyer is solid and I think Satt deserves credit here.

- Nate B: 2nd round pick, you wouldn't know it from his time with us. Like...at all.

- I think Satt has a rep as a decent recruiter (maybe?) and a good locker room presence.

I'm looking for more than this. But am interested if I'm off the mark here and Satt truly has a stellar reputation as a TE coach.

I’ve listened to several different national guys over the summer on the radio talk about him with regards to his TE coaching and recruiting. Don’t ask this seasoned citizen to remember who it was. I just don’t think he matters as much one way or another as some would think. Lindenmeyer’s progression is his biggest selling point as a coach. I would bet 99% of P4 fans couldn’t tell you who their TE coach was.

Not saying he’s good, but I will throw out there that coaching TE’s nowadays is wildly tougher than coaching RBs or WRs.

I meant fans wouldn't know who Heinrich was as a TE, not Satt.

Anyway - I'll try and keep an open mind on him as a TE coach. Not sure Lindenmeyer is enough to sell me on Satt right now. I hope Satt (and Rhule) prove me wrong. Satt having slack jaw on the question about yards per play indicated to me he's just not that guy (P4 Coach, not just OC). Seems like a slow blinker to me.

Hoping we break out at TE because we are overdue.

I have no idea if he’s good TE coach or not. This board would have been all over TO in the 70s if it had existed then. The number of catches TEs get is almost completely out of the control of the TE coach.

With the WRs we have now, I’m not going to expect very many TE targets. Heli one of the knocks pre draft on Gronk was how few catches he had.

Let’s break this down.

“Several” “different” “national” guys have not only offered a public on-the-record opinion about our demoted-to-TE-coach Satterfield, but it’s also a positive opinion about Satterfield and you have personally listened to such testimonies and taken at least mental note of “several” of these guy’s comments. And not only that, all of this happened over just this summer. And this analysis from “several” “different” “national” guys from just this summer is about a forgotten assistant coach for a team that has virtually no bragging rights under any circumstances for at least a decade.

Are they all named Steve Sipple? Sorry, unfair question. You did explicitly request that we not ask such questions because you are a seasoned citizen.

It wasn’t Sip. I think one was one of the national recruiting nerds. One of the obvious questions is why his scholarship TEs haven’t proven anything but we forget that we initially had a teenager and then a GA recruiting the position. Skuttlebutt out of fall camp is that the Sorensen kid is going to be a factor early. Teammates have said he’s physically ready.
