Carlin hard to listen to today, thankful he’s not on basketball regularly. Half the time I couldn’t tell who had the ball or what had just happened.

His style is just way to plodding and drawn-out for a quick game. Not to mention he makes routine, fairly unimportant plays seem like they won us a championship.

Best sideline guy we ever had.

And I say that as someone who thinks he does a good job on the radio in the afternoon and his other TV gigs.

He's awful with his game calling, but worse on his show, like hating on a team for hours at a time because they're not his Mets,
or hating on the Giants especially Manning, because he is an Eagle fan. And his radio team team is even worse than him. He leads Scott and Maggie on a hate march for hrs at a time.

He sounds like a squealing pig when he does any broadcast. Would rather have Ray Lucas do the play by play when Recco is off.

Good guy, loves Rutgers and knows his stuff. First basketball game in a while so he could be rusty but I was at the game so didn’t listen. I like him a lot though.

He is not a good announcer...best thing was him leaving the job. I feel sorry for those who had to listen today

But as I said above he is good at other things.

I don’t listen to basketball on the radio so can’t really compare/complain.

I don’t mind him for football and like him and Lucas . But then again I am usually at a football game or watching on tv. As for basketball, where he fails is that the listener should not be guessing where the heck the ball is or what the score . Give me the location of the ball, the time and score and give it me over and over. Keep it simple .
His J. Mitch 4 point play call against nova years back was one of the worst calls in rutgers radio history.
I also don’t know how much knowledge he actually has, he predicted 7 wins for the football team this August.

Just to be clear, he’s a crappy basketball announcer. He’s OK for football, is a good brand ambassador, and I like his FAN show.

That said, he’s lousy at basketball. The man they fired to give him that job actually bled Rutgers, and had a long history with the school. I loved listening to him, and I’ve never really forgiven Rutgers for canning him.

Those complaining about Carlin obviously never tried to listen to Bruce Johnson.

Carlin puts Johnson and his quirky one liners to bed.

he’s good for football, but just OK for hoops..Jerry Recco is much better fit for basketball..Carlin inflections better suited for Touchdown Calls than jump shots..Coach Boylan has done an excellent job picking up where coach Lloyd left off with expert insights and familiarity with RU hoops..

Bring back Bruce Johnson.
"Rutgers going left to right on your radio dial." "the ball up around the rim and in". "We'll be back with the happy recap after this station identification".

Carlin is a good for high school games, not big time play by play in any way. And his WFAN show is still brutal, but at least it was cut down to 2 hours.

In fairness, CMB has gotten five times better in a year. Still not great, but improving. It may actually be better when he’s out...

Agree here. He's awful at play by play. I have no idea what's going on listening to him.

i like his passion for NJ and Rutgers. The football broadcasts with Ray Lucas are really especially enjoyable and provincial. I could see why it could be hard to listen to for an outsider though.

Regarding his basketball announcing it is quite difficult to follow the play by play unlike football which he is much better in my opinion of describing the action on the field. He also forgets to announce the score. A good announcer can get away with going off topic in football but usually not basketball because of the faster pace of the game.

I really enjoyed the BTN plus broadcast yesterday especially the analysis of Danny Breschlauer which was spot on and insightful. He really has the ability to break down the game.

Lastly, I personally thought Bruce Johnson was amazing. Yes, his snark could be difficult to listen to at times, but I hate to admit this a few of his broadcasts had me in tears of joy. He really made you feel like you were part of the game and although you weren’t physically there it was ok you were still there because of the magic of radio.

he's on radio and tv--any of you critics made it yet on the air??
As I have said earlier in the thread...I believe he is talented but do not think play by play in either sport is his forte.

Bring Back Bruce Johnson! The fact Bob as AD did not let stay at hoops is a travesty.

yeah if you like the play by play guy making calls for things that didn't happen

"he shoots ITS IN..... (me jumping up and down for 2 seconds) .....and OUT" (me throwing radio against wall)

"Umass guard walks .....(me pumping my fist ) ......no call" (me pulling out my hair )

Every. fracking. game.

Love CL (Carlin, Lucas): that's 150 in Roman numerals...the same as our upcoming anniversary of the Birthplace Bowl!

Tune in to Coast to Coast for Noori's spin on the significance and conspiracies surrounding this data.

I agree – – he was just terrible – – you had no clue what was going on when he was at the mic.
