Jalen Miller comments... 👀

Thats what stood out to me most as well. Pike made a claim that hes as good as Jacob on the ball defending !!! Super exciting to hear that !

I think Jacob brought other things with his energy and ability to blow by on the offensive end that are tough to replace. But if Miller can replace some of that defensive skill Jacob had, thats great news !

Based on this interview and others I have heard from Pike over the past couple of months, I think the general 10-man rotation will clearly be:

Geo
Mulcahy
Harper
Cliff
McConnell
Hyatt
Jones (I'm still torn on who of McConnell, Hyatt or Jones will be the fifth starter)
Agee
Mag
Miller
-----------
And then these guys will be situational reserves:
Reiber
Palmquist

I'm not focusing on Miller getting a ton of minutes this season, but we need to have guys to replace Geo, Caleb, and Ron next year. Best if those guys are on the roster now (or transfer in next year with college experience) rather than true freshmen. Jaden and Jalen could be two of the pieces. We will need to show that we can dance once the veteran trio move on.

Good article . If Cliff is one of the best in the BIG this team will be good .
I like pike setting the goal as an national title. Let’s be honest, that probably won’t happen with this group but you need those goals.

My guess is Caleb will get the starting nod. Pikiell has praised him the whole off season, he is filmed playing with the starters with the footage we get, and Rothstein projected him to start after viewing a RU practice

Why not ask pike if he mishandled the game the last few minutes versus Houston?

I really don't understand this sentiment. Everything that could possibly go wrong happened in the last four minutes (missed Myles dunk, three missed offensive rebounds [two on missed UH free throws] that led directly to 8 points, JY turnover, Geo turnover....It is the same strategy that Pikiell has employed since we became a team capable of getting an 8-10 point lead with four minutes left. And we have had a very successful conversion percentage of those games in to Wins. Didn't work v. UH because, as I wrote above, just about everything went wrong except for Geo's make with 1:30 left. It happens.

THIS!!!!! (Bold added in the copy and paste for the answer...)

Q. How good can this team be?

A.
This is my best team, if we stay healthy. They like each other, they share the ball, they’re defending. We’ve got to become a better rebounding team. We weren’t last year. And we have to get better at making free throws. We’ve spent a lot of time on those things and hopefully it pays off. The thing is, we play in the best league There’s not a huge margin (for error). But this team is really good.”

Great interview. A lot to look forward too. Pikiell’s enthusiasm is contagious.

Houston was last season. We are on to this season. Can’t spend time looking back. Unfortunately Houston will be brought up multiple times this season every time we blow a lead which sucks because guys on this board and some media will make sure it lives on

Something imploded after the loss at OSU when we got the royal ref screw. Thankfully we got things back on track enough to once again taste NCAA Tourney bliss.
Yeah Myles was not the same after that game for a long time with him getting the royal ref screw; he was very timid for a long time afraid to get fouls called on him it definitely affected his game

The Cliff part is very exciting and I’m very anxious to see him this year vs last with a test of experience, weight room, and improvement. We need him to stay on the floor and if he does ; sky is the limit

Jalen Miller will play a role on this team. Watching practice the other day definitely opened my eyes to that!

We've got a chance to be real good folks!
Bk, what are your thoughts on Cliff and Jaden from practice or what you’ve heard besides the Jerry info ? These are the two wildcards I think in how far we go this year

Cliff has taken a major step forward from a physicality standpoint, finishing around the rim with more authority.

Jaden didn't show much in the workout I saw, but definitely showed flashes of what we all expect. He's another guy that has "grown up". By all accounts, I'm sure he will be ready when they turn on the lights.

Reiber I'm struggling with. I don't see the consistency in his game to get on the floor in anything more than a Doucore type role...but I've been wrong before. It is obvious he's been working hard to be in a position to contribute.

As for is this our best "team" under Pikiell...100%.

Could Agee be the Rieber we’ve been looking for, BK? You know what I mean. :)

I know Pike likes to talk up the big ten but the league is not that strong this is year. (nor last year) - no doubt this is Pikes favorite team as it’s built to play his defensive style better than any team he’s had.

I am not surprised he feels good.

I struggle to see the top end upside that a team like the last two years had because of the lack of offensive fire power/emphasis but hopefully someone can step up. Pike added some good pieces that should get this team back to the NCAA tournament.

I share your concern regarding the lack of consistent offensive fire power and that some newcomers will assist the team in scoring over 70 points a game. Many league games that Rutgers has played in recent years has been decided by 5 or less points.
