It does make you question why the greatest college hoops program is making itself a “players first” NBA pipeline when the top HS players treat it as a backup or last resort option anyways. Not a formula that makes much sense for the program, if it continues.

Good question; seems as if it hasn't been the same since we lost to Wisconsin in 2015.
I've been preaching since that loss that it was the turning point. Combine that with duke winning the title that year and this is basically the outcome. I know there's several other variables involved here but those two events shifted the tide. If we somehow finish the deal, go 40-0 all while taking duke out in the national title game, Cal and UK absolutely OWN college basketball. I don't even see how this is even a debate. It gave them a ton of recruiting momentum and ammo to use against us. In turn, it set us back. We've been seeing the ripple effect ever since.

I think another thing that hasn't garnered alot of attention. UK's early schedule is just bleh. Cal doesn't like preseason tournaments and besides the UNC game he doesnt like doing home and home venues against top tier teams. All U.K.fans have to really look forward to competition wise is the champions classic then its good mid level teams until mid December.

As a result we are watching UK play Winthrop on the sec network ( a channel thats probably not popular nationwide) while the rest of the nation watches Duke vs Zags on ESPN.

Kentucky may not need the exposure. But having your team constantly on a national channel against top teams definitely catches recruits eyes.

Will not lie I wanted Carey here bad. I was over Wiseman awhile back, but hoped for Carey. I hope we can land McDaniels. I have been super busy anyone have any positive news on McDaniels or been pretty quiet?

Same here.
My only differing opinion is what I think we will be in March.
To me, this looks like one of those teams that will finish the SEC strong, give us hope, then lose to a team they should beat, just like last year, the year before that (#Higgins) and the year before that and so on.

This is an interesting team. We have a ton of really solid, good players.

Uh, our schedule is brutal. I’m not sure how it could get much tougher.

Duke, Kansas, UNC, Seton Hall, Utah, and Louisville as OOC opponents? That’s crazy tough.

It appears that the greatest college hoops program isn't really the greatest college hoops program. It won't be long until we will be passed by........

Seriously. It's like you can pinpoint the exact weekend (our loss to Wiscy followed by Duke winning the title two days later) when we lost our mojo and the title of college basketball's "it" program switched over from us to Duke.

Oh they're solid and they're good, but they're also young. Too young. When you're this young, you better have lottery picks. None of our guys are lottery picks. Maybe Keldon can get there, but it would really help if we had a big and a pg that were lottery level guys.
Our point guards are as bland as you'll see in college basketball and our frontcourt doesn't have a stud to be seen.
Yet Cal is still running the same stuff he ran with every team he has had at UK. It's just not going to work. "It's insanity".
I love Cal, hope he stays here until he retires, but NBA entry rule changes can't get here soon enough IMO.
That's the only way the playing field is going to be level again. The guys Cal is currently getting will be the best available type of players once the studs go straight to the NBA.
I hate thinking this way, but it's reality.

It is a case of what have you done lately.
We will still get our share of recruits, but it won't be the lion's share.

My father in-law has season tickets and is basically selling all of them before January due to the garbage schedule. Basically, only Utah is slightly appealing.

Yes, I remember losing to a bad Kansas state team in the third round. We weren’t any good last season any were aren’t this season.
Ane we shouldn’t be hanging out hats on 10 point wins over VMI.
One loss does not define us, we are totally a new team vs last year if you can't see how much better we are now vs tourny you don't know basketball. The game is putting the ball in the hoop, we have no problem manufacturing points with this team. Once they tighten their defense, this is a final four team. A win is a win, sorry you don't see it. If you rather be doom and gloom, please refrain quoting me...if you do please respond with something worthwhile reading instead of crying and whining like a Lil *****.
Btw we beat Buffalo in tourny, see where they are ranked this week, oh yeah check the ranking of Kansas st while you are it...if you wanna talk basketball cool otherwise...

I really think a team of Maxey Herro Whitney Brooks and McDaniel would be a very versatile team. They'll be a good big man come into play by next season.

I was also shocked by the WVA game in 2010. Duke won 2 titles in years where we had the most talented teams we have ever had.

We'll get bigs.... but will they be great players capable of carrying the load down low for a title contender?
I was specifically responding to his saying we won't be ranked at the end of the year. The SEC is a meat grinder this year for sure. So it's possible he's right. I don't think he is, but I will bump the thread if he's right.

As for bigs and next year, color me seriously worried about that. Depending on who comes back, Richards being the only one I could see doing it, even though I think he's 100% not going to, we could he in huge trouble. Pretty big trouble.

However unlikely, Cal could go back to his Memphis teams playing style. Basically 4 guards and a center. I loved watching the true ddmo in Cal's Memphis days.
