Has a Coach K assistant ever gone to an ACC school? I know Brey went to Notre Dame when they were still in the Big East.

Stevens is the man right now but that could change rather quickly in the NBA. I'm a Boston Fan, but I love Duke more and would love Stevens to end up at Duke after K retires in "5" years.

Lot's can change in 5 years.

Yeah I thought that was something coaches don’t do?

Happens in football all the time. In fact Tom O'Brien left the BC head coaching position to take the same job at State. It is far less frequent in ACC hoops though Gilljet, as you noted.....OFC

Amaker & Wojo's success over next few years may determine who gets the job.

My money's on Amaker. The Duke coaches show did a unique feature on Amaker coaching at Harvard this season, and how he patterns many things after K, and the similarities between the schools.

Yea I didn’t really mean to be negative about PITT, more just thinking that he would have had better offers if he really wanted to leave. I wish him the best, he did a heck of a job and I’m sad to see him go.

For sure...didn’t take it that way- I agree

The only way this make sense to me is if he was confident he would not be the next head coach at Duke.

Or K plans to coach a lot longer than expected.

Even the two above things don’t make sense on why he would take the Pitt job now. He’s the best recruiter in the nation and a pretty good bench coach. Even if he just found out that he’s not going to be K’s replacement, why not stick around another year and coach these studs coming in next year while your agent lets it be known that you’re open to new opptys.

The fact Zion hasn’t signed his LOI is a little more concerning since Capel and Nolan were his primary recruiters. Also, has to be a little concerning for 2019 class, as I don’t see them following him to Pitt but could provide opening for other schools.

Been a couple ****** days between losing to Kansas and losing our best recruiter.

Zion hasn't signed yet because he didn't commit during the signing period. Just like Jabari when he committed. Now, he could still leave, but it was already explained why he hasn't "signed" to Duke and it's because he didn't commit during the "signing" period.

well. this is huge and its not good in my opinion. i really liked what jeff brought to our program.

i pretty much agree with the referenced article. but it smells of Capel being forced out. i mean he was offered the farm on the ASU job and didn't take it.

Pitt? I mean you have to play against Duke and UNC - battle in the ACC.

But a 7 year contract and a good salary putts food on the table.

this stinks.

Did the health of Capel’s father prevent him from taking an earlier head coaching offer? That is certainly understanding by all of us if that were to be the case.

I think scheyer will be the next coach but I wouldn’t be opposed to JJ Redick taking it when he retire

I was actually going to ask about Capel and Zion’s relationship as well. I know why he hasn’t signed but he could decide to go with Capel, who knows. Very interesting moving forward

I think this opens Duke's job up to Amaker, Wojo and Collins...

With a preference of Wojo of those 3. Love his fire. I can see him slapping the floor already as a 60 year old coach.... Next choice would be Amaker, I know K loves Amaker as a leader. Collins can obviously coach, even though he just loved to shoot it volume at Duke in his playing days...

I thought Capel was a near lock. It would be interesting to see what Capel's buyout is if the Duke job opens up in 3,4,5 years... If I was Jeff, I would want a rather non-binding deal, which is said to be a 7 year deal. If I was him I would have a 1M buyout... something significantly less than he would make if he took the Duke job when it opens. I thought when Capel turned down the ASU job, he was all but guaranteed to be the next head coach... Would be a great place to live and it has been a decent program in the past...

Another name to consider for the replacement is Mike White, the AD's son...

I would think K has earned the right to name his replacement, and that it would have to be a former player... but I think K said that he would not be involved in that or that he wouldn't have the final say. To me his word on who it should be is everything.
I agree that Mike White makes a very intriguing candidate. He is going to be a star in the college basketball world and maybe even the NBA--following the path of Donovan or Brad Stevens. His brother Danny White is killing it as the AD for UCF and is constantly fending away offers from big time programs to build something at UCF. He has a great relationship with Johnny Dawkins too. And of course his dad, Kevin White, is superb. But I think precisely because he is Kevin White's son, that will eliminate him from contention so to avoid the perception of favoritism/impropriety and potential future conflicts of interest. I can see Kevin White stepping down from his position to allow for Mike to coach for Duke, but I cant see them both being here at the same time.

Pitt was a 1 seed twice in the last 9 years. The next time that happens at ASU will be their first. Bobby having success at ASU will be more impressive than the success Capel will have at Pitt. ASU has virtually no history of success in basketball.

Capel is probably going keep whatever freshmen he wants (at Pitt) and dramatically improve Pitt's recruiting going forward. Pitt's not a Duke but he will have no issues getting talent there.

Agree. I see Pitt being in the top 6 of the ACC consistently in 3-4 years with a possible run at the league championship every 5 years or so. That is if the administration does not shoot themselves in the foot again, like they have a tendency to do.

Capel said he first saw Tupac wearing his jersey during an MTV News segment in 1995.

"I saw it and thought it was the coolest thing," Capel said, according to Sean Gentille of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I thought it was the coolest thing in the world."

Capel also admitted to using the photos to score cool points with a potential recruit.

"I showed it to one kid. I did show it to one kid. Because he had a picture with a famous rapper and had a relationship (with him)," Capel said. "I was like, 'Hey, I've got one too. This guy wore my jersey.' So I did do that one time, yeah."

Has anyone on here been offered a position as a Pitt. assistant? I know there are several that meet the criteria. ;) OFC
I don’t think they’ll go to Pitt. There’s a couple on here that are in line when K retires.

You're probably right on that . We do have some talent here that could innovate the game. I believe that's what we need after the coach K leaves. :) OFC
