Didn't see a thread. Very nice game 1 shutout to start the playoffs. Heavy hitting tough played game.

Would have been a tough loss last night, but I like how we are playing compared to Ottawa. Would be nice to snag #3 on Thursday. I like seeing Philly beat up on Pittsburgh too.

Is there a "well you can't beat them " team this year?
I am vaguely knowledgable of the NHL-and it "feels like" maybe there is not quite as much as some years?
I also "know" that we need to stay healthy-including at the Goalie position

I actually think the opposite is true of the NHL more than just about any other sport. Probably not the NFL just because the margins are so thin and it's one game, but in the NHL it feels like the best regular season team rarely wins. I think that's less true lately with the Panthers and Lightning, but you can ride a hot goalie and good chemistry a LONG way in the NHL playoffs.

That said, I'm as casual of a hockey fan as you are so someone may be along shortly to tell me you're right and I'm an idiot.

Not really. As for the East... The teams that have historically been problems for us in the playoffs were either mediocre or bad this year and didn't make the playoffs (Florida, NYR) or otherwise aren't as loaded as they once were (Boston). I guess you could make the case that Tampa has had our number in the playoffs too--I remember them bouncing us a few years back--but they aren't the Tampa of old either. They might not make it out of round 1 vs MTL. As for the West, Colorado is the only team that I've seen with a very high ceiling but I'm not convinced they will cakewalk to the finals. The Kings have lost games 1 and 2 in Denver but both could've gone either way.

That said, the Canes are not head and shoulders better than anyone else remaining either. Their skill is forecheck and not giving their opponents space. That requires consistent effort. We'll see if we bring it on the road. Ottawa is looking pretty good. They remind me of the Canes a few years back when we were losing close games and hitting the post a lot. They appear to be on the rise. I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect tonight to go well for us. I can see us going to the penalty box early--probably Svech--and paying for it.

Again, I hope they prove me wrong, but this feels like a game where we go through the motions, thinking the series lead is more comfortable than it actually is.

Heck of a pass by Miller to Blake. Freddie is dialed in. Need to get the first line going. Feel like all the rest at the end of the season caused some rust.

Good win. I’m glad my prediction was wrong. The parade to the penalty box in the second period was ridiculous but besides that, it was good to get a road win without our A game.

Our top line will have to do better though. Aho, Svech, Jarvis were bad tonight.

Also 5 penalties killed in the 2nd. Penalty kill is crushing it.
PK was great but that 5 on 3....good Lord.....that was one of the worst efforts by the offensive team I have ever seen. Ottawa literally couldn't connect on passes to get into the zone. Just a horrific PP attempt by Ottawa on a 5 on 3

They weren't as good as they need to be but to be fair they were better than in G1 and G2. Need them at their best to complete the sweet tmrw!

Crazy the number of penalties called on the Hurricanes when it was Ottawa (and mostly Tkachuk) constantly taking cheap shots.

I hope to never see Tkachuk again unless he is wearing a ‘Canes jersey.

Awesome series sweep! This team is special.

Love the sweep! We seem to have had less catastrophic breakdowns than in previous rounds this series. Didnt back down, skated with purpose, and kept Ottawa disjointed.

Second Round, Game 1 versus Philadelphia Flyers and the puck drops tonight at 8 pm in Raleigh. Freddie Anderson is the announced netminder for Carolina. With the first round sweep and recent rest I’m good with Anderson for Game 1, but I fully expect to see Bussi in Game 2. He has played too well to sit this long.
