Napier - I'm betting it's not him. I just don't see him signing the extension and making the comments he did about living there if he knew he was going to be taking the MSU job after the bowl game.

Hudspeth - He's got some baggage, but probably nothing enough to block him from the job. Definitely knows MSU better than any other candidate. Would be a pretty good and "safe" hire.

Grantham - I'm a lot higher on him than most are. I think he would be a very good coach. Only negative is head coaching experience. Lot's of successful coaches have started as head coaches at P5 schools with no previous head coaching experience though.

Judge - Don't know too much about him, but he's a respected NFL coach. Would probably be a long shot though.

Garrett - Just throwing wild stuff out there now, but it would be interesting. He's probably a little better coach than he's given credit for. But would be a long shot.

Any others?

I hope I'm wrong (and I definitely could be), cause he's my #1 choice. I just don't know why we let him sign the extension if he's the guy.

I read somewhere that this was an old quote from when he agreed to a one year extension back in October. ULL announced yesterday that they agreed to a new two year extension, but Steve said that it was never signed and the announcement was an example of "ULL playing poker".

Doesn’t say anything about him signing it. He was offered one and told about one when all this got fired up. Of course he’s going to be complimentary and gracious until he walks out the door.

Does not say he signed. Most all say positive stuff about current job before moving on just in case of last minute snags.

Sounds like basic coach speak to me. If we offer him the job you really think he is going to stay at a Sun Belt school versus getting a HC job in the SEC? Only fly in the ointment would be if there was a job he really wants in P5 that he thinks might still open up. Baylor has been mentioned but is Baylor in the Big 12 really a better job than ours? Might be personal preference on that (Baylor's schedule is certainly much easier) but I don't really see the Giants hiring Rhule anyway.

Of those 5 I would be good with either of Napier or Hud. Any of the other 3 would be huge risks as 2 of the 3 aren't even in the college game and one has never been a HC before.

Any reason why there isn't more buzz around Will Healy? Both Austin Peay and Charlotte improved under him. Do people think he is too young (age 35)?

As far as Napier's extension I read last night that it was an automatic one built into his contract, maybe the state of LA is like MS where you can't sign a government employee to more than four years?
