Ila cold and flu are both coronavirus. This is just a new one which is why it was called novel.

This isn't as bad as sars or mers.

Why do you feel the need to panic? Worse why do you feel the need to urge panic on others?
I'm not panicked in any way. I post against false information. If someone takes that as panic, that's up to them. This is a serious situation that doesn't need to be treated like the end of the world or like a common cold. It is what it is, an easily transmitted virus that causes too many people to need to be hospitalized and becomes critical at an alarming rate among the elderly and sick. It can be contained but we have to decide whether we can stomach the precautions necessary to do so. Blowing it off as insignificant doesn't help in that regard. South Korea doctors wish more had been done sooner to minimize social activities which would have limited its spread. That isn't panic, it is a reasoned response. Our issue is, no one wants to be inconvenienced or have their fun limited in an effort to protect a group that doesn't include them.

Too many watch only Fox News.
Too many listen to every word on MSNBC. CNN and the rest of the left leaning media. They want the whole economy to fail just to try and get voters to vote for a democrat this fall. The fake news has finally been exposed by Trump and most people see through their peddling of lies. I am a registered democrat but Trump has finally exposed the media for what they are. Now we know they have been lying to us for years as proven by news anchor Brian Williams who was demoted to MSNBC after years of lying to the public.

You are promoting panic when there is no need for it.

What a surprise this was turned into a political issue when it is not. It is a health issue. As someone else said this shouldn't be treated like the end of the world but it also shouldn't be treated like the common cold. If you are elderly or have health issues or if you have very young kids you probably shouldn't be going into public if you can help it . No need to stop sports events or barricade yourself in the house or anything either though.

I swear some people don't get it. All those other medical issues have treatment, this one doesn't. It's serious when an entire country has shut down like Italy. Tell me the difference between China and our current administration first trying to pretend like it didn't exist or the idiot at the top acting like he knows if you have it still go to work, etc. Of course you can contact Jim Baker and order their holy water cure.

But, they don't need to be canceling anything. Wash hands frequently in public, the point of wearing a mask is to stop you from touching your own face, people should consider wearing gloves at public events, and prevention is possible.

No sense in not wanting them to be "clever"

Right-wing/Left-wing......both parts of the same corrupt bird. They have managed to tap into the insecurities of the stupid and prejudiced to think they are the heroes and the "others" are evil.....Only a fool believes that morality is designated by a D or R.

ANYWAY, back on topic, I don't think it'll really come to that. People aren't COMPLETELY stupid

I didn't say it was insignificant. I just don't think it warrants this level of panic. Especially considering much worse went relatively unmentioned

We dont really know the death rate because we dont really know how many people have the virus. We only know confirmed cases and confirmed deaths.

It's not popular to say, but whether it's the human race or elsewhere in the animal kingdom ...... this is nature's way to thin the herd.

Doesnt mean we should ignore it. And obviously sucks for people most severely affected. But that is how things work. Whether it be flu, corona or something else.

Dont let people showing symptoms enter, and let's live our lives as best we can. There is only one way out, we all die someday. I'm prepared whether its tomorrow or 30 years from now. I wont change what I do dramatically to avoid "natural causes".

Doesn’t matter if Hep C isn’t coronavirus.

You accused a poster of spreading misinformation and followed it up the blanket statement that “viruses don’t have treatments.” That’s simply not a true statement and the point of me bringing up Gilead was to highlight the fact that your statement was not at all accurate.

Antivirals are an entire class of drugs that are treatments for viruses.

I didn't say there wasn't treatment.

Much worse?

Yes

Here's my final post on this because it's clear some people are resigned to panic over this. That's fine but it isn't fine to stoke the fires of panic in others.

To circle back to the original point of this thread:

Society can't and won't shut down. The way this virus incubates combined with the inability to shut down means almost surely everyone will be exposed. Almost surely tens of thousands already have but the symptoms are mild so there was no concern.

So cancelling games or fan attendance won't stop exposure. It's all just caving into pressure from the media and taking an unnecessary step that really won't make a difference anyway.

The flu could also kill you just as dead. In fact it already has killed many more. So why not cancel all public events during the winter every year?

Its interesting that whenever someone disagrees with a poster who is on the "this is no big deal" side, they are immediately accused of panic. There has been no panic if any sort by anyone on this board. Your heels are dug into the flu which means you have never bothered to understand the most basic difference between the flu and covid-19.

So the flu kills more people so we'll just ignore the other virus? All righty then.

The issue is that if it spreads quickly those who need hospitalization will overrun the capacity of the healthcare system. This is exactly why Italy shut itself down. They were getting overrun and hospitals no longer had the capacity to help people, let alone those who have other non-corona emergencies.

If the tournament goes on as if nothing is happening, the cases of coronavirus will explode. With all the different sites and all the traveling, it's a guarantee.

Coronavirus is at least 10x more deadly than the flu.
