Can/will Wright play the PG at Rutgers?

Richie has said Wright is a PG target for Rutgers. I see him as a spot up catch and shoot 3 point sniper and floor spacer.

I don't see Wright as a primary ball handler who can break down the defense, penetrate and dish or score. Not sure he has the handle or athleticism for that type of role in the B1G.

Defensively, I would question his lateral movement and footspeed to guard a B1G PG

My thought would be Paul plays point forward and Wright still spaces the floor. If Wright is on the floor with Miller or Simpson, I would have either of them as point over Wright.

Essentially, you don't want Wright on the ball creating. You want him off ball spacing the floor is my point

Who is Wright

Luther Wright
Orville Wright
David Wright
Ethan is a 2 guard with an excellent handle. His most staggering stat is that he led a team with a center who will most likely get drafted after next season in rebounding. If he chooses Rutgers over one other main suitor who currently has a Princeton player he will start at 2 guard but is versatile enough to play the point as needed.

Stop pretending this is some unknown player FIG. He's been discussed for weeks now
I am not pretending. I had no idea who he was. Honestly I had no idea who Armando Bacot was until 2 weeks ago. I don't pay a ton of attention to recruiting things and don't pay much attention to non B1G things.

I can tell you what NHL defenseman are getting hits and what major league middle relievers are getting (actually supposed to get) a lot of strikeouts per inning.

Isn’t it kind of silly though to play the role of a confused puppy in this case? This is a college basketball board and Wright has been mentioned as one of our main targets (multiple times). What’s the purpose of chiming in the thread if: A) You don’t follow recruiting B) Your only input is to list off random people who share a last name

Ethan had 18 rebounds vs Minnesota. Imagine 18 rebounds.
That's a crazy stat... 18 rebounds at only 6'4

If he comes here, he needs to share his secret with Cliff

He must have great anticipation and feel for where the rebound is headed along with a desire to grab boards

If we land Wright, we must get a wing with more athleticism that can create their own shot. That's a concern with our current roster unless Simpson is ready to contribute as a freshman. We really are thin when it comes to players who can go one on one from the perimeter

His 9.2% assist rate screams point guard to me.
I don’t follow this stat but he only averages about 1 assist a game for Princeton.

For reference, what is considered average? Good?

Richie said he sees him basically sliding into the Geo role. Geo may not be a true PG, but he seems to be more of a PG than Wright. Wright appears like a pure SG to me

Scangg, with regard to your PG question, I note that the highlight site you posted above listed him as a "shooting wing."

Yea, that is how I see him. Granted we are a bit different than most teams with Paul as a point wing type player

If you have Wright spacing the floor on the side Paul is driving too on the PnR with Cliff, that could be very effective. Paul can either throw the lob to Cliff or hit Wright for a 3 if his man tries to help

I guess I'm a bit torn bc I really like his shooting and quick release as well as his rebounding, but at the same time, I was hoping to get quicker and more athletic through the portal

Geo and Paul struggled with quickness and swapping Wright for Geo makes that even more of a concern. It would make speed, quickness, athleticism, and ability to create shot off the dribble traits that need to be a priority for the next transfer. We need someone to be able to match speed for speed on the perimeter

Rutgers needs shooters more than anything else to replace Harper and Baker. There are other scholarships available to bring in a quick point guard that can dribble drive to the basket. Rutgers has obvious needs that must be addressed within the transfer portal and also from the new recruits and returning players.

Seems like a recurring theme

Geo had assist rates of 16.8%, 24.2%, 23.7%, 19.1% and 22.5% in his career. 9.2% is Wright's career high.

I’m confused about the focus on PG. Paul is a PG. One of our frosh recruits is a PG. Miller can give solid minutes at point with the right surrounding cast. Caleb might return and he also can play point. Doesn’t feel like we NEED a guard that plays point? Why not a shooting guard?

I agree. I don’t think Pike is necessarily looking for a PG. A shooter/scorer should be the top priority. Need someone who is going to score 10-15.
