Can the secondary be fixed?

These horrible secondary issues seem to have come out of nowhere. Someone on X properly noted that as only the gamecocks can, we fixed something that had only been a problem with the OL and all of a sudden something that had never been a problem is suddenly a problem.

As we know with the OL last year, it was unfixable with the coaching in personnel we had in place.

Are the issues we are having with the secondary something that can be coached up and schemed to fix? If not, we do not stand a chance in any of our remaining games.

I don't think it's a coaching or scheming problem. Defense (in it's basic forms) is not all that complicated, and I'm sure the coaches know the basics.

I think it's a "between the ears" player problem. It showed in the Towson game, Miss St game, and now the Bama game. Three games in a row. A quick fix is not looking too good, imho.

Cover your man should be doable if you were a secondary player in high school but some of these issues appear to be losing your man in man on man coverage and not some complicated scheme. I see confusion in the secondary but I'm not sure how to fix it.

You have to put pressure on the QB to successfully defend the pass. We have not consistently been able to do that and our young DBs can't cover long enough. Pretty good against the run so far though. 34 points should have been enough to beat MSU, if we had won 34-31 Sellers would not be getting near the flak that he has from fans. JMO.

Its simple math. Bucey 6' tall, little Kilgore 6' tall, even Peyton Williams who knows how to be in position is limited at 6' tall. Daniels and Currence are physically gifted but don't know where to be and the game is still too fast for them to catch up. No DB development over the last 3 years has built this hole. Linebackers are okay but not great. Dlineman get hurt and out physicalled. Carolina Football again.

You need to be able to get pressure with 4 DL so LBs and DBs can play more zone and take away the big open areas for WRs to run to. DBs playing man can't stick with a WR forever, the WR knows where he is going before the DB does.

I’m not an expert on the X’s and O’s But White and Gray get a mulligan this year from me. Secondary has always been the strong point. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen a Carolina secondary this bad.

2014 was a Chinese fire drill. Remember how they coronated Kenny Hill with the Heisman in the first game of the season? Over 500 yards passing (broke Manziel's passing record)... but by mid-season was benched and replaced with a true freshman. That's the sort of gift the USC secondary has a history of bestowing on opposing QBs.

They better figure something out fast. KY QB has nearly a 70% passing efficiency. We've seen this script before. Comes in as an okay player and leaves as a Heisman contender. Hopefully the pass rush can get to him.
