From before the season or even after LSU that said MSU would struggle this much offensively?

So many people are acting like this is expected.

Of course there are none. Someone tell me how we are gonna beat zone defense.

There was an expectation that we would start slow and get better over the season.

But we started hot and have regressed.

All I said I didn't care what our record ended up being during this transition year. I just wanted to see a more entertaining product. Ha. Epic fail.

I don’t think you’re going to find very many. In fact, I had the team profile completely backwards. I thought the OL would be solid, the offense would score points, but the defense wouldn’t be able to get stops.

All of that said, the offense with Costello at QB has no chance. At least with Rogers the ball comes out on time.

Perfectly fair to say we are worse than expected on offense. I mean Leach has had his two worst offensive games ever in the last 3 games.

I think many just believe this year is what it is and our struggles aren’t necessarily an indicator that it will always be like this under Leach. Many like myself are taking a wait and see approach.

Did not expect us to struggle THIS much, but did expect a struggle at times, and always thought we would be better offensively in Years 2 and 3. The big question is obviously how much better do we get in the next couple of years?

1-4 after 5 games is right in line with what many expected, just need to see if we look improved in the last five.

That’s exactly how I felt. My fear was that the big and fast D-lines in the SEC would give trouble with pass protection and that seems to have come true.

There were a lot of analysts that said this offense wouldn’t work. Fans not so much. At least not very outspoken.

I’m pretty sick of hearing about how Costello is better in practice. He got five series tonight and could not get a first down. The OL was not great, but they blocked better and gave Costello enough time for the most part.

It is painfully obvious that Rogers is the better option. He isn’t going to make us into a good or even average offense right now- but he is a better fit for this scheme than Costello. We actually moved the ball a little and should have gotten some points when he was in the game.

Rogers has looked better every time Leach makes the switch. I hate for Costello but we need to stick with Rogers. This will continue to improve thru consistency. How much and how long it will take is the big question.

No way anyone thought we’d be this bad offensively - 17’n Croom would have scored more points than this BS over the last 4 games.

However, I do remember EVERYONE in the preseason talking about how bad our WRs were and that Leach would need to upgrade there before his system would fully work. I’m one of the fans that watch the ball and not individual matchups and would be curious to hear from the coaches/experts on here your thoughts on if better WRs would be able to more effectively solve the 8-man zone?

If not, we are in trouble and the next 3-years will suck and then we’re looking at another 2-3 years to recruit to a different system aGain...

This fate was coming for WSU. There were two teams that had his version of the air raid figured out, Cal and the uw. Everyone else in the league knew to drop 8 but they didn't know why. They were prob 75% of the way there. This season I think WSU would be having similar struggles as MSU. He is a magician performing in front of an audience that knows all his secrets. It’s over.

The secret isnt just drop 8, it’s the next thing the DC takes away. You drop 8 to take away the deep ball and stack bodies in the crossing routes. Leach goes on and on about how the most important skills for his QBs are accuracy and decision making. No kidding, cause if they're off its a pick. If they make a bad decision, its a pick. What Cal and uw did was take away the screens. That’s the killer. No deep ball, no play action, no screens, crossing routes are a traffic jam ~ what’s left??? The WRs have been neutered. There is 0 run game. So the RBs have been neutered too. The QB is staring down field into a Chinese fire drill. What does he do??? Swing pass. He is neutered too. Bunch of kids with their balls cut off by their own coach out there running around.

If you’re Saban game planning for Leach:
no run game
no deep pass
no play action
no rpo
no qb run
no draw play
no option
no tight ends
no bunch of formations to defend
no receivers doing what they do best cause the qb threw a swing pass
no running backs doing what they do best cause they never carry the ball
no qb doing what he does best cause he threw a swing pass

What exactly does the defense have to take away???? Leach takes it all away for them!!!

Defend the crossing routes and take away the screens and there is nothing left.

163 yards passing, 2 picks, 0 points and I read 10 punts.

Leach is done. Fire him now and get a real coach.

The problem is the SEC adjusted in one game. Our coach did not. A coach that doesn’t adjust an adapt in this conference doesn’t do well. Plain and simple. Not saying he has to change his whole offense but he could learn a thing or two from his former disciples that coach at other schools that have adapted his system. Running pure air raid will get you no where in this conference. .

Pretty sure I had a few. Not just about this season. but his offense in general. I had no idea it would be anywhere near this bad though.

You did and so did I and quite a few more. But NOBODY in our wildest dreams thought it would be this bad. I still think, given time, Leach can install an effective and fun-to-watch offense at State but I still don't know that it will produce a winning record within the conference. But hey if we can continue to play 8 conference games a year with 4 nonconference It may work out after all. I will concede it ain't looking very good right now though.

Well, I can show you Gene Chiz saying that it would take a season.

You are going to quote Chiz? The man who cheated his way to a natty with a Newton? And then got fired for being a fraud. Great reference.

I don’t know about posts / tweets, but the Vegas over/under was 2.5 wins, which is a mark that we, currently, are right on track for hitting one side or the other. It’s likely that Mizzou is the difference between hitting the under or over, however that game shakes out. It’s almost like Vegas actually knows better than any subjective fans about how the seasons will actually play out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more damning quote from an opposing coach.

I am completely dumbfounded by this season. After LSU I thought the offense would come back down to earth a little. What is happening now is unbelievable. Just a complete disaster on offense.

It hurts like something I haven’t experienced before. We beat the national champions and since then have have played like a team that could go 0fer.

Regress is a kind word. Since LSU, only 7 teams have been worse offensively. Since Ark, only 2 teams have been worse.

Also bear in mind that I’m talking about yards. Throw in our absurd number of giveaways, and there has not been a worse overall offense in the country since week 1.
