Our pitching staff has now pitched 3 straight shutouts (27 innings of shutout baseball), including a no hitter and a 2 hitter. But yeah, let's all ***** about the hitting.

One team that I know of, that says Pitching is just about all you need.

UCLA.

But you still need to be able to get a run or two.

To be fair we had 4 hits tonight and i dont think any were hit hard. This is the closest we have played to SEC comp since Dallas. Long way to go. We seem to live in 2 strike counts.

This isn’t the 2019 or 2016 teams offensively but I don’t think it has to be. We are more than capable of being a 2013 UCLA or a 2017 Florida that isn’t great offensively but if you have to come from behind against them you’re screwed because the pitching is so dang deep.

Not only are we hard to come back on, we are also capable of comebacks. We’ve entered our last at bat trailing 5 times. We’ve averaged 2.6 runs, 2.4 hits, and 1.2 LOB in those innings and we won 2 of those games.

Coach Polk had an interesting statement tonight, "You're pretty much guaranteed to win anytime you don't allow the other team to score any runs." That's why he's the best-selling author, folks! Thought it was funny.

Against bullpens in late innings, but we’ve struggled mightily against starting pitching.

Most teams' starting pitching is better than their bullpen. That's why they are starting. Now, with us, so far our bullpen has been our strength.

We’re playing a lot of position players and getting information on what our players can and can’t do. We still have another week to dial it in. I expect Rowdy to get better. TA and James are pretty consistent. DeBrule is okay. Tanner is such an asset behind the plate, I don’t care if he hits .200. Hancock has big pop and makes a lot of contact.

As for everyone else, it will get sorted out. We’re been playing 15 other guys. Someone will step up. We really just need someone to be consistent from the right side. Preferably someone who can play 1st.

From what I saw tonight I'm not sold on how good Lafayette is, decent but not sec decent. We will be up and down all year at the plate. Little concerned about our defense at 3rd.

You know how baseball works, right? You have to score runs to win, right? It's also at this point I will remind you that our schedule takes a serious step up from our last three games.

It is definitely somewhat concerning.

Has there been any games we have not scored any runs in? Pretty sure the answer is no. And yeah, everybody's schedule is about to get tougher with conference play.

We are going to see much better pens in SEC play. Again a long way to go and some vets are scuffling that should come around. But we top/rollover a lot of hittable pitches.

Have we played any three game series against top ten SEC opponents yet? It's going to get more difficult to score runs. Thank God our pitching has been good, and our offense typically starts slow every year it seems before figuring it out later. But we'd better start putting the bat on the ball because we're going to give up some runs in SEC play.

These things usually take care of themselves. If we eventually don’t win it all then I do think it will be because we aren’t that great offensively, but it may not even matter at the end if our pitching is going strong at the right time. Maybe we lose a few SEC series, but I’ll take our chances in the postseason with this pitching staff and trust that guys who have been hitters before will eventually get going.

Not worried. We have talent. We really just need 1/2 guys to step up and provide that production. 80/20 rule. 80% of production is from 20% of whatever it is doing the producing. Eventually that middle of the order (Allen, James, Hancock) will be hell. Though personally I'd like to see Rowdey and Allen be the go-to guys. The rest of the order should slant towards defense in my mind. Would love to see Skinner out there in CF once he's cleared to hit, or McDonald.

I like having Dubrule and Forsythe hitting back to back too. I think that'll help us agitate pitchers.

We can win a lot of games 4-0 or 3-1.
