Different thought process entirely. Not saying they shouldn't try or just give up during an opening round game.

I'm talking about the mentality of teenagers so no one is teaching them any lesson.

If you were to conduct an anonymous poll of all the players from 2-7 and 3-6 teams and ask if they'd rather have one more football game with their buddies, start their winter sport, go back to work/get a job, or just enjoy being able to go home directly after school I thin that you would he surprised how many would vote against an opening round football game.

Copying and pasting doesn't have much of an effect without context.
What do you mean “start their winter sport”? Basketball and wrestling don’t start for 2 more Mondays. They aren’t starting anything right now.

and so far every single coach and athlete of every 2-7 and 3-6 team that lost that has spoken out has been overwhelmingly positive. I have yet to see an actual reason for why people are upset about this that has any merit

Althoff was 6-3, won their opening round game, and were still the first school to submit a proposal to go back to the old playoff format. So there's at least one school who doesn't view it as overwhelmingly positive.

We don’t make decisions based on kids who think this way.

It just seems like after all the excitement of announcing the playoff pairings. it becomes anti-climactic to sideline the top 16 teams in each class until action 2 weeks later. Just a personal feeling, but we will see how it plays out for those affected.

IT will never happen, but the way to make a it a true advantage would be to go back to Wednesday/Saturday.

What about if the kid just loves baseball or basketball...and not that interested in piano. I dont see how pushing them into piano because the parents see a better ROI from their kid is any better than the parent pushing them into a sport because they are still living out their failed childhood sports aspirations.
Its not, although your kid will likely be more intelligent, say some studies. Regardless, thats why I said "if thats the goal," meaning scholarships.

For fun, what are, in your words and view, the main reason(s) parents are willing to take on the financial and time consuming burden of modern pay-to-play (club) youth athletics? Honest question, this isn't a gotcha thing.

Never going to happen in the modern game. Its time the old heads start accepting this. A millisecond Google search on concussions and safety in football will help you cope, or crash out. Unsure which would be more entertaining.

Get rid of the N/S split for ALL classes. Who likes that format anyway? I hope to god that ALL of these proposals include going back to a 1-32 seeding. Or 1-48 if they have keep the play-in games.
Don't disagree at all but IHSA won't allow it. They want equal representation from the north and south rather than a true champion.

I want to see this play out....let's see some of these coaches and AD's schedule some great non-conference games since 5 wins is not the magic number....I'd love to see Morris/Minooka again.....or even Morris/Oswego,hell Morris/JCA games....the place will be full. Bones,I'll even take a Brook /Morris matchup in the future. I'd rather play those games than see Morris driving 5 hours to Michigan to play a team.
I know many schools would be fine with this....let's see some teams get this rolling!

This is the #1 thing I would like to see change. Do whatever you want with expanded playoffs or go back to how it was, don't care. I think the biggest needed change is to get rid of regional representation. Make it a true state tournament where you try to get the best teams in the final 4.

Agree whloe heartedly, but unfortunately, other than JCA, the games you suggested are lose/lose situations for Minooka, Oswego, and Bolingbrook.

I'd be for some central IL opponents for a change. Maybe Morris vs. Metamora, Washington, SHG, or Rochester. They could venture into the CCL other than JCA and play teams like Franny, Benet, or Naz.

I am 100% with you on the "keep the expanded or go back, I don't care", I'm finding a hard time understanding the uproar in the expanded playoffs.

Sadly I don't ever see the IHSA letting it happen.

I think this is all for not as I suspect the IHSA with make changes and have the privates with only 1 rep in semi-finals. And a lot of questions will come with that.

Not sure what Morris is committed to going forward for non conference, but the current AD is retiring at the end of the school year. I haven't heard about a possible replacement. Hopefully whoever it is has the stones to schedule these games.

I actually like the new system so far. But let's let it play out before making final declarations.

About the only thing I'd like to see for sure is to put all the privates on one side of each bracket. This will ensure at least one public is in the championship. It would likely give us many public - private championship games which I think would make for some pretty good entertainment.

I think Coach Dixon is a very high character coach who runs an outstanding program and has built a tremendous championship culture.

If you actually listen to his interview, his reasoning is for kids to have their summers and be kids. With the games starting earlier that means practices start earlier and providing less summer for kids to be kids. I’m two years practice will be starting 8/1.
sounds nice in theory, too bad for the crossover baseball + football guys who are playing 8 games a week in to august. football is the last HS sport that needs to concern itself with letting kids be kids

And here is one of the issues, for example, in 4A you run into the issue of having SHG and Montini on one side and that messes up the north/south split. In 5A SF and PC but that isn't really an issue since they are not far, more of a dividing line factor than actual factor of travel/regional representation.

Since it seems the N/S split is so important to the IHSA how can you just disregard that for Private schools? For the record, I am not really stating any opinion but it's a thought that came to mind that they will have to answer.

I think I read they can alter certain things. My guess is they would change it and hide behind the legaleeze of it all.
Can we please acknowledge that when we say IHSA we are talking the broader committees made up of coaches and administrators? It is not the IHSA staff and directors sitting here making these decisions? The "they" in this case is a legislative commission and not one IHSA staff member is part of it: Legislative Commission - IHSA

I am old enough to remember, and I played in the era where there was no north vs. south split in any of the 6 classes (and sometimes 6-3 wasn't good enough to get you in the playoffs). The split occurred in 2002 around the time gas went above $2.50 a gallon, give or take. And the only reasons I ever heard were that school administrations and boards were against the expense of travel and the students and "average" fans of a school were no longer willing to travel some of the distances to support their school.

I have never heard that it had anything to do with wanting representation from different geographical areas.

Yes and no. There is the Legislative Commission and also the board of directors. BUT, as part of their strategic plan, they have given power to the IHSA to move “swiftly” and make decisions on their own that need immediate attention. Ex: regarding schools that qualify for the multiplier waiver- the IHSA can now step in and pick and choose who gets it and who doesn’t based on their own opinion.

I think this topic (how the IHSA operates) needs a thread of its own. I’m really concerned there is no way around massive change coming for private schools since there is only 4 of the 31 reps on the legislative committee from private schools and similar on the IHSA board of directors. Any vote that goes to them will not go private schools way. Any proposal that goes through them before it is voted on by the members but first be approved by them.
