Incredible talents like RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson naturally draw loads of attention and can even precipitate an overshadowing of others of excellent abilities. Take Cameron Reddish for example. Due to an injury he didn't play in Canada, so the evidence of his potential is confined to his high school career, especially the McDonald's High School All America game.

Cameron may not turn out to be one of the “go to” scorers this year, though the jury is still out. The stat sheet from the McDonalds game is intriguing relative to other aspects of his game:

Top Scorers
• Nassir Little 28
• Jordan Brown 26
• RJ Barrett 26

Leaders in Assists
• Darius Garland 11
• Cameron Reddish 9

Leaders in Steals
• Cameron Reddish 5
• Zion Williamson 3

In your opinion, will Cameron Reddish find Duke stardom in his own right?

To answer that question. I think you have to define what you mean by stardom, but if you simply mean will he be closer to living up to his billing, or being a let down, I believe he will be far to the side of living up to his billing.

Cam has a tone of talent. If he brings the intensity on bith ends of the floor his talent, no matter who he plays with, is going to shine someway. Think Carter last year, playing alongside MB3 he had to adjust his game. But his talent was obvious even when his stats didnt always pop out. Expect much of the same from Cam.

Cam Reddish is a great shooter from the college 3-line. His release is quick and high. He’s kind of like Durant in that he shoots better off of the dribble. It will be interesting to see if he takes his time. Tre Jones will be great for these guys.

If none of the frosh get injured (again), we are Final 4 locks IMO. These 4 frosh are at least as good as the 2015 guys. We lack the Amile/Quinn/Matt dependability, but Jack/AO/Jav/Bolden may be able to give us some late season magic to make it to the title. If we’re bounced in our regional, I’ll be sad.

Cam will actually have more impressive stats than anyone else on the team outside of RJ. Think Cam will be in the top two in points and assists and in the top 3 in rebounds and blocks. RJ will probably win ACC POY based off his scoring and defense but Cam will be in the discussion. My only worry with both Cam and Zion will be their consistent play. Could see either scoring 30+ in one game and single digits another.

If both really buy into playing defense consistently, this team should win it all.

Cam should be fine. One of his knocks his junior year, and one of the reasons he lost his top spot, was most felt he couldn’t lead a team alone by imposing his will.

He may be the most talented complimentary piece in all of college basketball. And to be behind TWO studs could make him even more dangerous. He’s pretty efficient and he’s a good passer, so affecting the game positively shouldn’t be an issue.

Shooting wise. I’m not sure about handle, passing and rim finishing. I would be thrilled if you’re correct.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised. His handle is on par with Tre and he can finish well. Plus he’s athletic as Hell. And like Zion, he’s going to surprise a lot of people with how well and how willing a passer he can be.

If Cam Reddish stays healthy all year and he plays how he is projected to play, and is an above average M2M defender.......than we are the best team in the country and should be the favorites to cut down the nets. Provided Tre Jones stays healthy too.

Cam is gonna be a great shooter and passer. We need shooting.

Think Cam will be as good or better than anyone on the team outside of RJ. Think Zion ends up being the complementary player behind Cam and Zion. Zion will get plenty of opportunities to be the star on this team but he’s got to prove that he can do what he did in Canada against guys who are taller than him and run him all over the court on defense.

I think he’s proven himself at this point. Making a weapon like that a secondary piece would be a mistake IMO. He’s the guy that draws the defense and opens lanes for guys like RJ and Cam.

Kind of crazy that a player who would be the best player on every other team in the country is talked about as possibly the 3rd best on his own team.

Imo, possibly the most important player simply because of his passing and shooting. If Tre can't consistently shoot the 3, won't be surprised to see Cam - AOC - Barrett - Zion - Javin on the floor.

If I may differ with you for minute. I havent seen Cam play in a Duke game yet but I have seem Zion in 3 games and there is no way he will be the complementary player of the 3 go too guys. Zion is a force and will be so very difficult to stop on the offensive end of the court it. If Coach K uses Zion as a complementary player he's off his rocker just a bit. Possibly there will not be enough possesions for the 3 of them which will be a factor but Zion is pretty amazing.

Consider 15. Who was complimentary? At different times, Stones, Jah, Winslow took over. Each did it in different ways, at different tmes, in different situatins, and or matchups. I think that is what we see from this group.

IMO, there is a difference between a complimentary piece, and focal piece. Tyus was never complimentary, he was the floor general. I do agree though that for the most part, Justise was a complimentary scorer. He was however the show piece on defense.

Zion being a tertiary or specialty scorer doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe it’s just a differing view of semantics, but I can’t see Zion being the guy we go to only if RJ and Cam are off.

I think Zion is gonna be unbelievable and have some of the greatest plays that college basketball has ever seen, however I do think he will be our 3rd leading scorer, behind RJ and Cam.

Not really to Zion's fault, I just think were gonna be an athletic driving team, and guards/wings usually get more chances to attack the rim than a power forward would.

Honestly, Zion is gonna get his points, who cares how many he averages...... If he is anything close to a good defender, we are gonna be untouchable.

This team could very easily be a team similar to 2010 where 3 guys do a vast majority of the scoring and everyone else fills a needed role.

2001 had Shane.
2010 had Lance.
2015 had Justise.

My one worry is who will be the guy on this roster who we can say with confidence can take a player completely out of the game. Basically, who will be our best wing defender? And can that wing defender completely shut a guy down??

I thought Javin could fit that role, but looks like he may start the 5, or play the bulk of his minutes at the 5, so he wouldn't really qualify.

Winslow was complimentary until he wasnt. Di dnt he single handedly wreck UvAs pack line by going coast to coast before they could set their D? I just yhink all 3 asserted themselves very effectively. Quinn did too.

Maybe i was complimenting his abilities that exceeded mere complementariousness without overstepping his role. Maybe, I just stink at texting.

I don’t know who that will be but as you said you hope that would be Javin. Granted he would also have to play the 5 a lot regardless of Bolden playing well or not, i can’t see both playing together much. So my guess would be RJ. He seems to have that alpha dog mentality on both ends. We should have enough scoring where he doesn’t have to coast on D, something that has too frequently happened recently.

I think the discussion as to primary v. secondary options is interesting. In my opinion, whether they are primary or secondary depends on the game. Matchups will always determine who will be primary. The great thing here is that it will be impossible to stop all of the primary options.

My hope is that on the nights when the matchup dictates a primary option has to be a secondary option, that the individual is accepting of that for the benefit of the team as a whole. It seems like chemistry is good so I'm hoping that will not be a problem.

I think Cam will be awesome. I think his versatility will make him lethal as a secondary scoring option on those nights he needs to be because he's a strong distributor. Let's hope the team dynamic supports a "rotation" of who will be the central figure from game to game.

I hope you get sea sick...I don’t, I’m just jealous.

It’s a good problem to have to be able to debate who our “third option” will be, especially when the choices are RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish. Speaks to how good we could possibly be.

And to answer the “who will be our defensive stopper” question, I’m willing to bet it’ll be RJ.

I was in the Navy too long to get sea sick!!

I think our defensive stopper is gonna be Ipsycosis!!

I really want MB to step up, but I agree. I think RJ is going to be special.....nobody better think they going to just drive and do a little finger roll on Z though...I think he likes smacking those shots into the 10th row almost as much as he likes to dunk!

His help side defense is excellent. I think part of it is because he loves to get those huge blocks and he break away dunks. But he gets a lot of steals, rebounds and blocks. I really think the defense is going to be much improved.
