Rick Pitino once called UK the Camelot of college basketball. Camelot was the idyllic kingdom in its time, but later lapsed into decline and eventually fell. King Arthur tried to restore Camelot by finding the Holy Grail to heal the land. But he and his knights failed in their quest and one of the greatest reigns sadly came to an end.
To this point at least, it appears that the reign of Coach Mark Pope has brought Kentucky basketball to the brink of a similar fate. Is there healing somewhere up ahead? Is there an infinitesimal chance that Pitino could step in and become “The Once & Future King” of Camelot?
