Too good to not be on the field. We really would rather have dismuke and deontai out there in base over cam?
What the Cosgrove are you talking about?Deontai May end up a four letter word on this board.
I don't think Deontai played that poorly. That late hit penalty shouldn't have been called, and he missed one tackle for a touchdown where our whole team was missing tackles all day. I think people are overreacting on Deontai, but I did see Dismuke play poor coverage several times. His job would be up for grabs before Deontai's.Too good to not be on the field. The late hit was most definitely a legit call. I didn't think so at first but from a different camera angle from the angle of the ref on replay it was an obvious flag. The guy was quite a ways out of bounds when he got hit. Granted Deontai left his feet when the guy was inbounds I think but by the time he hit him, he was a good 4-5 feet across the paint.I don't think Deontai played that poorly. Eric Lee no doubt played very well, but I think he was cheating a bit on that pick 6. Right as the qb was throwing that out route, there was a receiver coming open in the seam which I believe would have been Eric Lee's responsibility. When we play better qb's, they'll make you pay for cheating on that route.
My only concern was that at times we had guys behind our DBs or running wide open. We had some busts for sure and without somebody analyzing the video who knows what they're looking at, it's impossible to say who played well and who didn't.Taylor played well also and seemed to be extremely confident! Eric Lee seemed to have a lot of confidence as well otherwise he wasn't jumping routes and taking them to the house.
Bootle and Lamar also deserve a lot of credit. I really didn't see or hear anything about either of them the majority of the game (other than Lamar's QB hit) which typically means they had really good games!
Man it'd be awesome to be able to see the coaches video and see the full field. My only concern was that at times we had guys behind our DBs or running wide open. Most of us wouldn't know what the responsibilities were supposed to be anyways. Helps non-coaches for seeing that yes AM missed and open WR option on a pass play, but unless you know the D and what each guy is supposed to be doing , you can draw incorrect conclusions.Man it'd be awesome to be able to see the coaches video and see the full field.
Much rather have problems on offense right now than defense...the fact that the defense can win a game bodes well for the future of the program if we can keep these position coaches in place. The offense will be much better as nearly every area has room for improvement due to health or experience. We aren't Michigan State or Iowa which restricts its offensive growth to protect is defense.Dude was a baller. So was Jojo at times. And the stick L Jackson laid on the qb.
Yes sloppy *** game. Lots to work on. But those screw balls who is nothing but negative"Bruce dumbass" who ever he is.
There were a few positives and i have no doubt Frost and Martinez will get this figured out.
Very true sir. I played Corner back in the day so It's what I know best. Sadly the secondary often is not part of what is shown during tv coverage. Most of us wouldn't know what the responsibilities were supposed to be anyways. I can see when somebody's uncovered but I don't normally have any idea why unless we're obviously in man and a guy gets beat. I played some corner too but our schemes were very simple compared to what they do in college now.Very true sir. I played Corner back in the day so It's what I know best. We just have to assume that if they aren't being thrown to or of they are getting interceptions, they are doing alright.
He was also throwing into 8 man coverage with only 4 receivers, and only one of them reliable. The fact that S.Bama could get pressure with 3 against 5 or 6 is a little scary.Very true sir. Stud. The end!!
Fisher has done very well with his group. Think he is our best DB coach since Marvin (seems like we have had about 40 of them----hyperbole)

Totally and completely disagree. The penalty is "late hit" out of bounds, not "hit too far out of bounds". He hit him milliseconds after he actually touched out of bounds, and when he committed to the hit, the guy was still in bounds. Not to mention he actually barely brushed against him.The late hit was most definitely a legit call. Watch the play full speed, Deontai was running full speed over there, it would have been physically impossible for him to avoid the hit, based on relative positions of the two players at the time he actually stepped out of bounds. The "hit", if you even want to call it that considering he barely touched him, occurred so quickly the ref standing right there hadn't even began to blow the play dead. Also, the ref standing literally 2 yards away from the hit, and easily had the best view, didn't even make a move for his flag; the flag came late from a ref further away from the play.
Not the clearest, but in the image below, Deontai has clearly fully committed to his hit, and the QB hasn't even stepped out yet.

Also, on the subject of how far out he was, he was only maybe a yard out. On this same subject, if this actually was a late hit, South Alabama got away with at least 2 or 3.
Whether or not he "could have" avoided the hit doesn't matter to the ref. He did in fact hit him out of bounds. I'm not crucifying the kid for it. I had a tough time knowing exactly where the out of bounds was on that kind of play too. I'm just saying the ref was correct in throwing the flag.Totally and completely disagree. Completely agree with you, the QB was still running up field. If he doesn't want to get hit, he should have run out of bounds sooner. This happens all the time and is rarely called a late hit when the player is still trying to go upfield and isn't even out of bounds yet. I don't like the rule either but it's a rule. Contact was made out of bounds. It's just so danged hard to judge for the defender. The thing that he screwed up was leaving his feet. He needs to learn to keep his head up in that situation and just make the play. Don't try to blow people up on the sideline. IF he doesn't dive at the QB and tries to stop at the last second I don't think they throw the flag even though contact was made. IF it had been Adrian, I sure as hell would have wanted the flag thrown. I think he blew it earlier in the game too on one of their scoring plays. He was going to blow up the RB and it allowed the RB to sidestep him for a TD. Sometimes you have to play under control.Completely agree with you, the QB was still running up field. I didn't see that one. The main cheap shot I want the guys to remember is the one that linebacker put on AM last year. A little pay back wouldn't hurt my feelings for that one. Just good clean hits and make him wish he had been a little more polite in the pile.Did y’all see the cheap shot on JD? Guy helmet to helmet just drilled him. No call

Wow, that hit on JD is bad. Was the ball even thrown his way?
How do the refs miss that? It’s one thing if the DB is trying to use the ball loose... but since it wasn’t even thrown to him, that’s terrible.Nope.
No doubt, but there are also rules, and that was absolutely a cheap shot that should have resulted in a penalty. It's football. Got to keep your head on a swivel.

40+ years ago I used to like to give em an elbow to the chin or punch to the gut when the play was on the other side and they tried to come out and stop my backside pursuit. Never ever got called because the zebras were always watching the ball. That crap shouldn't get missed in a big time college game with all of the stripes they have on the field now. That hit is the definition of targeting. Defenders get blocked and need to keep their head on a swivel. But it’s even illegal to blindside a defender now. WR’s don’t expect to get cheap shotted when the ball doesn’t come their way. Nor should they. Dirty hit.
