First off, you are one of the most open-minded and knowledgable posters on this board. Appreciated.Few comments.
1. K is underrated as a defensive coach. His system requires multiple years to learn, though. Also, he is use to having a couple of Matt Jones and Amile Jefferson type players to offset the Allen type players that can't guard fence post. So, add offensive minded Freshmen who don't have time to learn the defensive system to an offensive minded Senior who just doesn't have the skill to play effective defense at this level, and you have a poor defensive team. By March, they will be better, but how much better is the question.
2. Have to disagree about Okafor, to a certain extent. I think under Cal (and more importantly Payne) he would have been better. Now, his attitude is part of the problem, but that's probably one reason why he chose Duke over UK. Lack of a work ethic. Physically, Okafor had everything working in his favor. If he was better between the ears, he would already be an All-Star, IMHO.
Funny you're defending K to a Duke alum, but I just don't think he emphasizes defense in his recruiting and play style. He's had plenty of years to change his defensive approach to fit his personnel and he simply can't do it. Imo.
I don't disagree that Okafor would have been better under Cal. 100% agree, Cal would have taken him from awful to mediocre on D. I thought Philly really screwed him over the last year and a half, we'll see with the Nets if he's able to get better on that end of the floor.
