Anyone else feel like Cam was better as a lighter, faster, somewhat undersized, linebacker? It seems like, while still a very good SEC LB, he has gotten a little slow with the added weight. I may be wrong though. What do you guys think?
Can is a guesser. He guesses on plays, and on tackles. When he guesses right he looks like an All-American. When he doesn't, which is the usual result, he is out of position/he whiffs. He probably leads all SEC LBs in whiffs. I guess some fans only notice the former.
From people in my section when I call him out during the games. They seem to overlook the fact that he looks lost on just about every pass play he defends. He's routinely running the opposite way from where the ball is on pass plays.
You. He's a damn LB for God's sake. He's supposed to have a ton of tackles. He either rolls the dice correctly on the play, or looks completely lost. He is out of position more plays than he should be.
Watch him closely on plays that aren't run directly at him. You will see what I'm talking about.

You also don't get 123 tackles by being an awesome LB who can't shed a block. You'd get blocked too often to make a play. You get 123 tackles being a LB who can't shed a block by being a safety playing LB who gets a lot of secondary tackles. For example, besides the sack, the only other real tackle I saw Cam make Saturday was when he ran down the RB from behind on a 10+ yd play. A good LB is in front of him and stops him for a 3-4 yd gain. A decent LB meets him but let's him fall forward for a 7yd gain. A bad LB has to run him down from behind because he was out of position. But guess what, they all get credit for a tackle. And an undersized LB, by nature of speed and playing in the middle of the D, going to most often be the second man in on a tackle.
Another example: two weeks ago I saw Boyd meet the RB in the hole and stand him up. cam came in and jumped on the RB's back while Boyd had him stood up. Cam got credit for the tackle. He gets tons of those.

Is that why he is tied for 1st on the team in tackles? Is that why he is 2nd on the team in sacks? Is he first on the team in tackles for loss because he is completely lost?
In case you didn't know, he isn't the only LB on the team, so "he's a damn LB for God's sake" doesn't explain any of the above. Since all he does is roll the dice and guess, maybe he is just the luckiest person on the team?
I'm not saying he is first rounder but lets shelf this "he is completely lost much of the time and just guesses all game" crap. I'm sorry, you don't get 123 tackles and follow it up with the stats this year by guessing and being completely lost the rest of the game.
A tackle. Repeatedly the pass will be completed in another area of the field from him and his great awareness forces him to continue to run away from the play in coverage. He gets a lot of tackles on the run because 80% of the opponents run plays are right at or within a few yards of where he's lined up on the damn play. If he couldn't slide a few yards and hang on he wouldn't have that many tackles.
He will make one great play on a blitz (play call) or guess, but then look lost and be completely out of position the next.
The TOP 4 TACKLERS on the team are LB's which proves my point. That's what they do. Hell Cam, Benardrick, and Nickoe all have the same amount of solo tackles this year. McKinney and Cam have same amount of assists (tackles) because they mainly play in the middle of the field. Hence where most run plays take place.
Last year Cam was tied with Charles Mitchell with 50 solo tackled. Banks had 46 and Wilson 43. Cam accumulated "73" assists (group tackles) that went into his stats. Because....... He plays in middle of field. I'd sure hope he could pile on that many times since he's within arms distance of a ****-ton of tackles.
Point being, some of you only see what you want to see. And when looking at total tackles you can back up what you'd like to believe without really looking into the stats or watching cam play the actual game.
Any middle LB is going to have a ton of tackles. At least I'd hope so. But that doesn't mean Cam isnt completely out of posotion, not knowing which way is up on a good bit of plays during the game.
Ok we get it you have a man crush on Cameron LawrenceI bet my arse, if you ask his Coach's what Camerons speed is, they will tell you he is plenty fast. Better yet Ask the NFL linebackers he has played with, if he is fast enough for NFL. Ill bet more body parts, that they will say the same. I may be wrong myself, but i Truly Believe, not like some of our fans do.

Keep showing your ignorance of the game of football and pure Hate on one of our best players.
The TOP 4 TACKLERS on the team are LB's . Nicoe Whitley is in top 3 tacklers and he is a Safety. Any middle LB is going to have a ton of tackles. You are right the Middle backer in a 4-3, in theory is suppose to have the most tackles covers middle and both sides. Cam is an Outside backer covers his side and middle, Middle is B. McKinney. but you are just exsposing your hate for Cam and that is all. Are You a OleMiss guy, sounds like something they would do.
Ok we get it you have a man crush on Cameron Lawrence
He makes up for size with scary face paint.
I actually get to watch the games in person and see Cam every play, when cameras aren't on him. He's out of position on a lot of plays, mainly passing. Our defense plays with more of 2 middle LB's, with the other LB playing outside, dictated by offense. We usually have safety support to on run (Nickoe - hybrid DB/LB). Cam is not rangy or our best LB, but he is serviceable.

I find it hilarious, that the video you linked starts with Cam nearly whiffing on a tackle of MTSU's QB. He only stopped him by holding onto his shoelaces.
