Cal's future at UK (Brad's redshirt)

Does anyone else here think there's more to Brad's redshirting than what's been said? The way things are going this season and the disdained and tired look Coach Cal now carries to me looks like a man who has checked out.

That being said, do you think Cal might have plans to bolt at the end of this season? Say to the Lakers perhaps, and redshirting Brad this year leaves him more playing time at whichever school he transfers to.

Just food for thought. I don't think I've ever seen Cal appear to be so checked out during a season.

(Also, I don't post much on this board, but I've been here for 10+ years. Finally made my account when I was living in Haggin Hall my sophomore year at UK which would have been Cal's first season 2009/2010 (Man, were those the days). Can anyone tell me whatever happened to WildcatDon? I never see him post on here anymore)

I mentioned this a week or so ago. Of course a certain population of fans had some snide remarks.

It means that brad won’t play this year, and will play the next two. It also means that Cal will be here as HC at least that long.

Totally agree with this. Cal’s relationship with Lebron alone gives legs to him coming to the NBA to coach the lakers.
LOL? What relationship do you speak of? Last I checked LeBron was tight with the rat. His son wearing puke with pride. We got LeBron here one time in 2009. Lmk when LeBron is spotted at a uk game again or rubbing elbows with cal

My first guess was that we all thought we were gonna be “guard loaded” this year he knew Brad wouldn’t get no playing time. I really think he wants to get Brad in more games. Could be wrong but that was my first impression when I heard the news. Definitely more to it though.

Maybe Brad knows he never really plays and takes a soft exit from the rigors or meaningless practice?

Cue Iverson.

Brad has stated that he wants to coach. Any chance the redshirting had anything to do with this?

Oh my, there's so many false presumptions in this post.

First off, Cal ain't leaving anytime soon. And the reason for that has nothing to do with Brad. Instead, it has everything to do with that recent 52 million dollar contract extension that guarantees we pay him over 8 million dollars per year through 2024.

There's no chance Cal's walking away from that. Would you? Like it or not, that contract extension pretty much ensures Cal will be staying here for awhile no matter what.

And the Lakers ain't knocking on Cal's door. There WAS a time, about seven or eight years ago, when Cal was being talked about as a hot NBA prospect, but that talk has been silenced for several years now, now the NBA percieves him as an aging college coach who failed miserably with the Nets in his prior NBA attempt.

As for Brad transferring ....to where? Transy or some other DIII level school? Because those are the only schools that'd be remotely interested. I really doubt such a marginal walk on level player is influencing any power player's long term plans.

Don't think Cal wants in on the NBA, where they'd fire him the first time he blew his nose wrong.

You guys that think BBN has been harsh on Cal keep forgetting the survival rate for coaches on the next level, even good ones.

Back to Brad. The thought had crossed my mind could Brad be redshirting to give him more time to prepare for a post-coaching job in which Cal should try to slip him in somehow with us. When I heard of Brad's redshirting, my stomach literally turned because I knew that it ensured at least 2 more years of the ever-declining, ongoing saga within our basketball program. Sorry, but I agree it's time for Coach to take the hike on out. Barnhart would never see it this way, no matter what or how bad it may get.
