Exactly what are you doing and what have you done since you’ve been here? You’re either a spineless coward with no nuts or a horrible athletic director and idk which one is worse.

Not sure I’d go that far. But he’s been a pretty clear disappointment. You’d expect the guy to be savvy enough and connected enough and bold enough to either have steered Koehler here —(he came from Michigan State!) to have warned Pope off Mitchell, to dig in and make the Mitchell thing work, and, or to have made it work with the Auburn kid Keyshawn Hall. Instead he seemed to be an innocent bystander as the fiasco unfolded.

It was a very “Millionaire Mitch” performance.

I disagree. His job right now is to prepare to hire the right man for the job in the optimal conditions. That’s Nate Oats in 19 months…..IF Pope doesn’t turn it around. Rush a hire to appease people and you cause a bigger mess.
Post has merit. I just don't know if I can hang for 19 months if Kentucky basketball devolves into a shi t show.

Just curious...what's the reason for a 19 month delay? Oats isn't my favorite, but I could live with that hire considering that many of the fan favorites wouldn't be a realistic option.

Yea that's if Alabama doesn't get wind and extend Oats but IDK what his contract is or if he extended it already when Cal left.

Oats would literally run the SEC if he were at Kentucky.
Lol, no he wouldn't. He has everything he needs now and he isn't running it.

While I will certainly not argue he is better than Pope, he is a gimmick coach. His teams are almost always consistently bad defensively and heavily reliant on 3s. You cannot win tournaments with that recipe. It just doesn't work.

We need a balanced coach who can win tournaments.

Oats probably spends half on his rosters than Pope does.

Has he done anything across the board? We’ve got a softball program that can barely win a single sec game and he’s not made a change there. A baseball program that’ll never make it back to Omaha. My point is he’s not talked about anything. He might as well be a figurehead. You’d think the new AD of the most prestigious basketball university in this country would have a big outline of things he wants to get accomplished and do. What has he done to help the JMI fiasco? Any lucrative new deals? NO. Instead I’m not sure the guy is even in Lexington.

So you're agreeing with me. If the donors are willing to give Pope 30 mil for a team and he overpays than imagine if donors gave Oats 30 million.
No, I don’t.

He would get the same teams he is getting now. Oats isn't struggling to land players at Bama. They aren't witholding money from him. They have invested heavily in him and the program. He gets players for less than Pope because he isn't as desperate. All good coaches do!

Yet, in spite of that, his teams are inconsistent as **** and he has a lot of mediocre seasons. His style of play is the reason. It's also why he will never win a natty.

You all have got to stop thinking just being at UK makes a coach better or just throwing money around changes everything. See Pope for evidence.

He already signed one extended deal not too long ago I think. Not that it means he wouldn’t get another one.

It’s won the SEC, the tournament, and made a final 4. I’ll take that.

It’s because of how hard is to hire an elite, proven coach these days. Batt’s relationship with Oats makes him the obvious next coach at Kentucky.

So did Todd Goldden who won the damn thing.

Hell, Cal just won the SEC tournament and I don't want him back.

There's a lot of good coaches available that can do a better job than Oats.
Maybe so, but would they come here? He’s definitely on the list of best 15 coaches in the sport right now. I’d prefer Tommy Lloyd honestly. Can’t fault him for losing to Michigan too much last year. I thought it was in the E8, but it was the F4 so he has that monkey off his back now.

It's Oats and it should be 2028 when they do it because it will only cost UK around $5 to $9 million as opposed to about three times that amount if they pull the plug next year in 2027.
It blows my mind that Mitch Paid BYU $6 million dollars for Pope and immediately basically gave him an extension for historical standard UK year. Granted injuries probably stopped that being way better, but still. Give it a few years before guaranteed add on years.
