Poor judgement, yes
Selfish? No f-ing way. Stop it
Exactly. Nobody plays harder maybe on the planet. Yeah, he was bad on offense, but they generally weren't bad shots, especially his closer in shots - they just didn't fall. He's supposed to take open shots - that's not being selfish at all. Maybe he should pass up a few more treys though, at about 20% for the season now.

McConnell isn’t selfish on offense lol.

He takes open shots, but unfortunately misses a lot of them.

He does take some boneheaded shots here and there (rushed shot towards the end of tonight), but I wouldn’t call it selfish.

Unfortunately his form looks really off. He barely elevates and has been pushing the ball, resulting in many, many short shots. It has to be related to his back.

Caleb suddenly thinks he needs to play a more pivotal role and become Steph Curry out there. IMO, he's the WORST shooter on the team, and aside from his great defense, he should NOT be looking to shoot especially from the outside. There is a reason why he is left so wide open. The other teams know he can't hit from outside. So should Pike and the staff. They should be all over him for that.

Yeah, run Pike out of town! Bring back the glory days!
of course not saying that. Pike is great. But he's also loyal to a fault. Today we saw the impact of tolerating the selfishness. It's easy to let it go when the team wins, but today it came home to roost.

BTW...continuing "bad judgment" isn't accidental. It's selfishness. It's the same thing.

Problem with Caleb is that Pike doesn’t have much flexibility to bench him during a game given Mags injury and how much it will hurt us defensively
you would think...except it's been the same since before Mag's injury.

The late three at top of key that would have tied game up was WIDE open though. Form looks worse than usual.
Noticed it in the MSU game.
Something looked different. It looked like he was tinkering with his jumper. For his career he’s been reliable with his mid range game so I really don’t like it if he’s tinkering with his jumper

Not to pile on but the ball stuck with caleb way too much. It wasn’t just the shot selection which wasn’t great it was his approach over all was bad. It happens. Shake it off and move on. He’s a good player and a great teammate

1 for 12. He’s just a horrible shooter period.
no, it's worse than that. he's hellbent on forcing shots. tonight was a disgrace, actually. did Paul screw up a few times ? Sure. Cliff, yep. But nothing like this.

It's not the 1-12. It's the shot selection and disregard for team offense. Selfishness on full display today.

Even when he had opportunities to take it to the rim it seemed like he preferred settling for a pull up from mid range. Need him to be better moving forward.

I blame pike. If I'm Caleb and no one's telling me my role on offense, I'd do exactly what he's doing. The COACH has to coach. Coaches at the 5th grade level define roles for players.

What would happen if the scrappy player on your high school team took a three-point shot off the dribble? He would find his *** on the bench very quickly with the coach passionately explaining to the player, "that's not what we need from you".

This is where you realize star rating matters. Most of it is off offensive skills. Pike finds these defensive Gems, but they lack offensive skills... Of course not all but overall...

thats why the new 4/5star recruits that are coming in for 23/24 and 24/25, you already see that their offensive skills are so much more advanced.

The threes are bad shots. He's not quite Cliff but he is 20% on the year. And he was was 27% last year. And 20% the year before that. And 29% the year before that.

I can’t wait until we don’t have to rely on holding opponents to under 65 to win.

He deserves a ton of criticism tonight
absolutely. He does not share the ball on offense . And frankly his his defense has suffered this year. Far too much gambling on defense and being caught out of position.

Caleb was amazing on defense against MSU and had 3 or 4 really crucial buckets including the biggest one of the game.

He needs to talk to someone about his offense. This is beyond horrific. He’s so good on defense, but honestly I think it’s starting to cancel out his defense. Can’t have games this
Worst offensive display this year. 1 for 12 is horrendous. Also played more minutes than any. Also turned over the ball many times. The offense can’t run thru him.

Now Caleb shot terribly 1-12. The question is why did he think he needed to do more ? Because Paul had a stinker and didn’t take over, got stripped 2x , didn’t get the ball to Cliff , did not run high pick and roll. We knew the starters had to do more with the loss of Mag . Caleb just made some bad decisions like not driving to the basket where he had lanes and either got a layup or get fouled and instead kept on shooting and pushing his mid range shot . Cliff was open when he had those lanes or would have been there for the alley oops but he kept making a bad decision as a senior.
Now you clueless people must not have seen the job he did on the defensive end and took Hood Schfino out of the game almost completely. He disrupted Indiana’s entire second half where they didn’t score a field goal for 9 minutes and he rebounded as well. Paul left Miller Kopp open for 3 of his 4 threes and that was more of an indictment as he had the most quiet 18 points that killed us. He wasn’t the one who let TJD catch the airball late for a layup and he wasn’t the guy who let
Trey Galloway get that rebound put back that was Derek.
He made some bad decisions , did not shoot well or drive when he should of or pass when he should of but he is a warrior. Criticism is fair but some of the stupid comments are over the top and just lacking in basketball knowledge as a whole.

The knowledgeable posters know how important he is on defense. That's why the comments are "stop shooting threes" and "terrible offensive decision making" as opposed to "nail him to the bench for eternity" which would be the reaction to any normal player who was like this on offense.

Caleb does not pass the ball. Go watch the Penn State game. He needs to be instructed to not shoot. The same thing to Cliff about shooting 3s. Just stop it already !! Valuable possessions that end in turnovers! It was a 2 possession final score !! 1-12 Caleb

And when he scores 15 and wins games for us in the clutch the haters disappear. His shot is weird, flat out ugly looking, almost like the ball weighs 20 pounds, especially long range and probably why when he’s off he’s really off.

He has had two games of 15-or-more points all season ... 16 points against Miami (where we lost) and 16 points against Indiana the first game (where we won by 15).

He averages 3.2 assists per game (3rd on the team behind Mulcahy and Spencer). He generally does pass the ball - today, though, far more shooting and dribbling than normal, and not enough ball movement. 5-6 wasted, empty possessions which could very easily have made the difference in the game.

Meanwhile, Mulcahy just wasn't pulling the trigger in moments he should have, instead kicking to much worse shooters (McConnell/Omoruyi). It was Mulcahy who should have had 12 attempts and 4 3PA tonight, not McConnell.

To Caleb's credit at least he was trying to make something happen on offense when basically the entire team wasn't
I might be wrong, but I think Caleb is not a selfish player. As said above, I think he tries to make something happen when our offense goes into one of its many funks. He’s trying to take charge and be the team leader that he is. Unfortunately he makes some bad decisions which results in bad shots or turnovers. When Caleb is playing in the flow of the offense he is much more effective. Also, with the minutes he is logging and his defensive effort he has to be gassed. A little more rest on the bench may be beneficial but with Mag out this may not be possible. Hopefully Pike can find a way to make this this happen.

Paul was awful as well today. No aggressiveness. Lacked leadership and free throw shooting was off. Looked like his head was elsewhere
The early offensive foul call on Paul seemed to make him careful. He said something to the ref after the call and ref said something back not sure what but it had a bad effect
