Caleb is the B1G leader in steals at 2.2 and 6th in defensive efficiency per Synergy at .69 points per possession

Very happy to see Caleb in the discussion. He’s very disruptive with fast hands and great anticipation. Besides the 2.2 steals, he also seems to get two near-steals per game, where he tips the ball away but the other team recovers.
Lots of deflections and he really does wreck the opponents sets with his ball denial at times which ruins the flow of the entire offensive possession

Sorry Caleb, you play for RU - no shot at postseason awards in the B1G. But please keep doing what you do.

I’m not gonna pretend like I know the nba, but does Caleb posses qualities that make him the better prospect then Ron and geo.

No. Shooting is what the NBA is all about. He’s a below average shooter. Can’t finish inside. Not even close.

It would be nice for Caleb to win the top defensive player award but it seems like the major awards usually go to players from the original Big Ten member schools. It would be nice for a break through.

I think what hurts him is as I assume the voters do not watch every game all of his deflections that do not count as steals

No chance. Caleb is a solid player at Rutgers. No chance to play in the NBA. I think RHJ can definitely be in NBA though

I'm not sure of the statistics, but I assume that steals lead to more points than do blocks. So Caleb gets my vote. I think there's a stat for steals, but I've never seen one for blocks.

The picture they used is from like three years ago
But he changes his hair-doo so often how can you get a quintessential "Caleb" photo?

Early this year I thought the praise for Caleb's D was mostly some kind of marketing thing after we lost a great man defender in Young. But as the season has worn on, I can see it.. Caleb is a different kind of defender but his D is very valuable to the whole team defense thing we play. Who knows how many "steals" he helps OTHER Rutgers players get by making it more difficult to pass over or around him. That is different than what Young did harassing the point... but just as valuable if not moreso.

Last I checked Detroit Pistons are no longer the Bad Boys of the NBA...If they were, Caleb would have a chance

wow.. tonight vs Iowa he really showed me his one on one prowess on D as well as his making every angle more difficult. and he won't even get credit in the stat sheet for some of it.. like the steal or block he would have gotten had Murray not traveled when he thought he could get off a three before Caleb closed on him.

way to get after it for 40 minutes.. well.. your part of that 40 minutes. the whole team really got after it on D with very few lapses. incredible performance.

Caleb’s defense and energy is a game changer. His defensive intensity is starting to have the same impact that Jacobs did in the whole teams energy and ability to alter games

I may have posted this somewhere else - Jevon Carter making it as a utility player (for his defense) gives me hope that Caleb could possibly carve himself a role in the NBA with one more year of progressive college development. Carter won national DPOY multiple times - so a notch about Caleb defensively to this point. But Caleb has much better physical measurables. Defensive role players in the NBA do not have to be great shooters.
