Tom Izzo and Rick Pitino receive plenty of praise for having their teams perform at a high level in March. That praise is well-deserved, obviously. However, I wonder why we rarely hear Calipari's name thrown around as one of the best tournament coaches.
Dating back to 2010, Cal has clearly been superior to Pitino and Izzo.
NCAA Tournament record:
UK:21-3
UL:15-4
MSU:14-5
Final Four appearances:
UK:3
UL:2
MSU:1
Titles:
UK:1
UL:1
MSU:0
Since arriving in Lexington, Cal has been an incredible NCAA Tournament coach. And I cannot think of two better examples than 2011 and 2014. Both those teams kind of limped into the postseason and somehow overcame a murderer's row of opponents to advance to the Final Four.
Simply put, Cal is the man!
