Humphries isn't old enough. Can he still be evaluated?

very smart of Cal. He will use that as a recruiting tool. The guy is always out front on any changes that are made, smart move to prove players first, that is just brilliant in fact.

It makes perfect sense for all eligible players including the Walk-ons to submit their names in the NBA Draft and hope they are invited to the Combine in May 2016. They can submit their names 3 times and have 10 days after the Combine to either stay in the NBA Draft or come back to Kentucky. Schools like UK, Kansas, Duke, UNC, etc. will all probably take advantage of the new process for the NBA Draft. There are many players on these teams that are reserves or don't get much playing time but has the talent and ability to play in the NBA. We will probably see this with all of the bigger schools now there has been the change for NBA Draft.

This is a PR and a smart move by Cal. This is a free evaluation by scouts. It is like a summer internship if you were a pre-law, pre-med, etc. learning what is needed to succeed in a career in basketball. Remember, players come to UK to win and that takes top talent and that kind of talent (Cal or any other coach) needs people to help them succeed in their chooses profession. I would LOVE to have these kids stay longer, but we (fans) and the school and the darn NCAA benefit so much more than these kids. We (fans) plan our schedules around game, get so much joy watching the games, the school is able make huge profits and the NCAA rakes it in (yes I don't like that, schools and players deserve more of that).

Plus, people will talk about this in the media and UK isn't even in the Tournament any more...

I get your point but we DON'T benefit more these kids. I've been a UK fan all my life and I've had a great time following the Cats but several of these so called 'kids' become multi millionaires every year and the few that don't walk away with a free education and will most likely be famous in the state for many years. I think Anthony Davis is just one of many good examples of a kid that benefitted a lot more than I did. Unless of course paying for my kids' tuition and helping with their student loans is better than getting paid many millions of $$ for playing one year at UK. Peace.

This is ridiculous tbh. Once other schools start doing this the NBA will shut this down and I can't wait for it to happen. NBA isn't gonna like having to mess with kids or paperwork for a ton of kids that have zero chance to make even the d league.

I mean it's the smart thing to do I guess but this new rule is just one more thing that puts us at a disadvantage. The withdraw date is after signing day which could make for hard times if some of our guys drag it out til the end.

But whatever, it's all about getting drafted here.

The biggest asset this brings is the elimination of embarrassment for those "not good enough" yet. Some players may feel pressured to declare because they don't want to be the odd man out while all their friends are drafted. I think that happened with Teague. Now, everybody goes, gets feedback, and guys like Briscoe, Derek, Lee can come back together without the shame of being the only one not to declare.

You totally could be right, it maybe even a ploy by Cal. But I don't 100% understand the logistics, Johnny David may not even invited to be evaluated, but why not try...no harm no foul...and for Lee, if he isn't invited, then that makes decision really easy to come back.

Cal dubbin down on his philosophy..

Like I always say, to Cal, coaching is nearly 100% recruiting nowadays in his system. Whether you like it or don't, it is what it is.

The NBA won't have a problem. It's by invitation (tell me if wrong). The list is likely already made waiting for the R.S.V.P..
The NCAA rule changed, not the NBA rule...not a ton of kids involved.

Glad to see you're back. I didn't see much from you after the IU loss. I thought you may have jumped off the new bridge lol. It's okay, we'll get em next year !!

Thanks my friend - it wasn't the IU loss; my father in law passed away last Thursday; all the family visitation, funeral and other stuff started on Sunday.

and yes, yes we will

Each NBA team's short list may be a little longer, but the scouts have been watching for 30/40 games of those in who they have interest.....team tryouts are important.
Not wanted.......not invited.........no problem......go back to school or go to Eur/Asia

Oh my fault. I am soooo sorry. You're an excellent poster and Cat fan. I hate to hear of your loss. Have to know he's in a better place. I'll send one up for you and your family and hopefully some better days will come your way.

comments here on this subject leaves me wondering. Cal is no genius. When these rule changes came out no one gave any serious discussion about how this draft season will go. They were all busy thinking how lil bro FUed. Cal just doing Capt. Obvious.

Anyway, these NBA tryout things will shake up late recruit committing.
