Have you ever heard Cal discuss HIS legacy? Are you even paying attention?
Cal’s legacy is the players he’s coached in the NBA. Cal doesn’t have loyalties to any program, he’s only loyal to the people in his circle. Don’t ever assume he cares about the fans, the program, etc. He’s in this for pay and ego. If he can get paid the same somewhere else, he’ll go because he’s taking hits (for just cause in most cases) that his ego isn’t capable of absorbing. The cupboard at UK is empty (his doing) so why not go somewhere else and start over anew?

My point. Exactly. Cal doesn’t need UK. But UK needs Cal.

Left UMass in shambles with a vacated final four season, and then left Memphis after an upset in the sweet 16 and a vacated final four season.

No reason to think he'll leave Kentucky with the program in good shape.
I am too lazy to check on UMass but he didnt leave Memphis in shambles. They had a good record the year after he left with Pastner as coach.

We are rock bottom, or close to it at the very least. If he leaves, we most likely lose those that have announced they are coming back. He has UK bent over the barrel and he knows it. He’s built nothing, there isn’t a program anymore. He’s put himself in a spot to be needed here whether he’s wanted or not.

I looked it up, they went 24-10 and played in the NIT tournament after Cal left. Memphis had to vacate the 2007-2008 season but they didn’t lose any scholarships. Was put on 3 year probation as well.

Go hire some up and comer? No one will crawl to THIS damn job. You will get what you deserve. If you don’t think Cal wants to win more than the fans want to win you are a fool.

I agree. He's eroded most of the foundation that was UK. Our reputation is not what it was before he got here. We are now a draft prospect stopover and a team that hasn't had memorable success in awhile instead of the team with the richest tradition in college basketball. And yes we still have the richest tradition, but I'm talking about the perception of UK out there for the rest of the world.

It's going to be bad when he leaves, but it's not going to be good while he's still here, either. It's time to rip the band aid off and start healing.

His last 5 years have shown he’s not the guy he used to be. Effort and desire are one thing, results are another. Tubby’s last 5 and Cal’s last 5 are almost identical.

"We hate you Cal, now leave... but no, don't go, you must win us more Final 4's before you have our permission to leave"
Like I said ... this is probably Cal's people floating this to "teach us peons a lesson". I'm not kiddin' neither.

Cal needs no one's permission to leave. If he leaves now, it will be the biggest dick move of all dick moves ever pulled. I don't want him to leave ... yet, but if he chose to go following this past season I'd help him move his furniture.

I wouldn't mind to see Cal leave, but I don't think Texas will offer him enough money. Texas would have to offer Nine Million Dollars a year just to match Cal's current deal, and there is no way Texas is going to pay their basketball coach more than their football coach. However, Barnhart will probably respond to the Texas rumors by offering Cal an afterlife extension on his lifetime contract.

Ha, no it wouldn't. You want him gone, so do the loudest in the fanbase... and actually, maybe the general consensus IS for him to leave. But in no way should he have to wait until it works out for us. That's not how this works.

Imagine the level of sociopath, to tell, say, you're girlfriend that you want her gone, but not until it's convenient for you. Or how about your Boss, who wants to fire you, but wants you to finish that final project, and how you better not leave before it's done because "it's a dick move".

I actually don't want him gone yet, I think you misunderstand me. I think he's earned the right to try and repair this shitshow.

I appreciate your attempt at the analogy but I'm afraid it falls a little flat here. The only way this would make sense is if Barnhart was telling him he wanted him to leave "but not yet!". If that was the case, sure Cal would be pretty justified in taking off. But if the people that are signing his checks want him to stay, it would be a pretty major dick move to just tuck tail and run after giving us the worst season in the history of the program. How can you not agree with this? Do you think Cal should leave because of all the meanie tails that are pissed off about last season?

I have to imagine that if Cal left tomorrow, the story and the general consensus of the college basketball world, wouldn't be about how he "dicked over Kentucky".. it would be how some in the Kentucky fanbase drove out a well-intentioned and still highly functioning coach, while the Kentucky program still tries to remain at the top of the sport.

The NBA has tried to steal Cal almost every year, so have other programs. He owes us nothing. Certainly not because we had a bad year and some fans want to lock him in the basement until he delivers what they want.

Nah - no state income taxes in Texas. Could offer less and he'd still make a lot more.
