yea I think that was pretty much the qualifier for hiring BCG

no way Cal gets 3 down years. I agree, he gets this season to tank, but we have a major roster turnover with equivalent talent coming in next year at best - UK needs a change. Cal needs an amazing year next year. He can't have a string of post game comments next year like this year.
In this scenario of yours - no way Cal gets 3 down years - if he does have 3 down years, how does it exactly play out in your mind?

We buy him out adamantly for about 50 million or Cal bows out graciously leaving all that money on the table?

I pick the latter for I am a dreamer. Join me.

Realistically, he gets his pick of a couple of good assistants going forward, and that helps right the ship considerably.

So, instead of discussing head coaches, discuss assistant head coaches and the discussion will have value.

Kenny Payne will return to take Cal's spot, and return the Cats to a championship team.
That would be awesome but can’t see it if Cal is forced out in my opinion. He’s been around the program long enough to know the ins and outs.

Rick Barnes has removed his name from consideration for the upcoming job. In all seriousness, my list would be Oates, Beard, Spoelstra (not leaving Miami), Pearl.

1.Stevens
2.Donovan
3.Oats

Those are my 3, I really don’t think Stevens would leave Boston and I don’t know about Donovan but you at least have to call those 2

If we get down to #10, I’m getting that job. I interview really well, I’m dedicated, I can handle criticism. I think I’m a player.....if we get to #10.

I get the Stevens and Donovan arguments that they’ll never come here.

I don’t, however, understand why it’s such a given that Mark Few wouldn’t come to Lexington. When has he ever been offered or turned down a job as high profile as UK?

I would be so happy that Cal was actually gone, anyone in that 10 would be a ray of sunshine. Getter dun.

Most of these options would fail here. To succeed in this role you need to be a good coach and someone who craves the spotlight.

We saw the disaster when we hired a coach who “lived and breathed basketball,” but was a socially awkward psychopath who couldn’t handle the big stage.

How it plays out in my mind that Cal is so miserable there is a negotiated buyout that is significantly less than what is technically owed. Cal knows he can't put in 2 crap years at UK. This isn't Memphis or UMass.

My fear is next year we have something like a 25-8 season and get to the sweet 16 with no mea culpa from Cal on changing his ways

now we are in middle of the road. It won't be good enough for the fans but its not a dumpster fire of a season so Mitch isn't going to force anything.

how do you guys know? have you talked to him personally about the kentucky job? Pinto came from the knicks to coach us WHILE WE WERE ON PROBATION. Plus, Cal makes twice as much as he does. Money talks and ******** walks.
Pitino was going to leave New York anyway. The GM and Pitino both hated each other. Ainge is one of the best GMs in the NBA and seems to fully support anything Stevens does.

Jay Wright has already said he won't come to Kentucky. He likes living in relative anonymity and has no desire to deal with the pressure or the spotlight of Kentucky.

It’s truly a shame there is talk about replacing our HALL OF FAME COACH....
But to be honest we have missed the NCAA tournament 1 time already and looks like for the 2nd time again this year.

I am disappointed as everyone else but replacing Cal is just crazy to me at this time.
With that said the administration needs to speak loud in their actions to let Cal know this is unacceptable and changes need to be made.

Changes need to start by starring at the man in his mirror.

I believe that Cal and Tubby both suffered from the same demise

After they won a national championship, they both felt like they didn't have to answer to anyone.

and Mitch enabled both of them.

Realistically, Beard and Oats would be the top choices. I would love for UK to go after Jay Wright if they could within the next few years but it would be difficult to get him to leave Villanova.

Still amazed at the amount of people who think Billy Donovan is a possibility at UK. He’s denied us more than Peter denied Jesus at this point.

However, I’d throw the bank at Brad Stevens. College, I have no idea.

I hate that its come to some of the fans having conversations about replacing Cal. I know I've been one of many instigators on this but dammit, Cal brought this on himself.

If you're going to be stubborn, then you better be right. 4-8 isn't close to being right.

4-8 with some humility would go a long ways with the fanbase. 4-8 with what is perceived to be an F.U. attitude to the fans is just toxic.

I hate that it’s looking like Cal’s tenure here looks like it’s going to end on such a sour note. I hope it doesn’t actually end like that, and when he does leave I hope he’s welcomed back anytime and held in the same regard as Hall
