At the absolute minimum I think you would have to at least understand why pretty much everyone has a hard time believing a projected top 10 pick is going to come back to college when he’s eligible for the draft. We’ve seen a lot of guys talk about coming back next year only to “change their mind” when it comes down to brass tacks.
Sure I understand WHY you’re making that assumption but it doesn’t change the fact that it is a bigger assumption then just believing what ppl are telling you

Well, I guess I’m not the kind of guy to just believe everything people tell me when it flies in the face of everything I’ve ever seen to this point. I’ve never seen a projected top 10 pick not go to the draft. Not in the last 20 years at least.

For me it isn’t about him playing or not playing but that quote is something Cal wouldn’t of said 4 or 5 years ago. He didn’t even say anything like that with the Hami situation and they are eerily similar.

It really feels like he’s just screwing around with the fan base. It started really in ‘18 when they looked like they were going to go to the FF when the bracket opened up. He made some pretty odd quotes basically going after the fan base over a rough regular season. Then we lost to crappy Kansas St.
The Allen situation last year. He had a couple other ******** moments too. Someone needs to check his ego. Those quotes just go over like a wet blanket and it’s like he’s saying it’s on purpose

A.) I don’t think so, and certainly was NOT projected in the top 10 like Sharpe which is what I said

and

B.) there was an NBA lockout at the time and it’s pretty well understood that was a big reason why Jones returned. I guess we can hope for another lockout?

Exactly right. I'm sure Cal meant he wasn't throwing Sharpe in a game to try to win (words aimed at the complainers in this thread) when the kid clearly isn't ready to compete at this level. Our other guys have worked together for months yet some on here want a kid who was in high school a few weeks ago to come in as a team savior against what will be the #1 team in the country in a hostile environment. Yeah, that sounds real probable to me. We have a lot of great coaches on this board. I agree Cal's wording wasn't very good but I think many on here are taking him out of context on this quote.
I remember Devon Booker as an entering freshman saying the pace of the college game was the biggest adjustment. Even Anthony Davis struggled. No kid with zero college experience is going to waltz in and single handedly make a huge contribution in his first game. Still, the discussion is helpful. It’s easy to see who understands the game ad who is urtter clueles.

Cal literally won't let it happen. Cousins, Bledsoe, Kidd-Gilchrist, etc. All wanted to return, and Cal said no.

That Smart-Assed crap worked the first 6 years because he got enough One-And-Done talent to win big in the NCAA Tournament. Now that he no longer gets ENOUGH of those kids, that COCKY BS don't work anymore.

He has FINALLY quit using the "Basketball Benny" line because he has gotten SCHOOLED by it these last few years. However, he can or do WHATEVER he wants because UK is on the hook for a TON of money if they want to get rid of him.

So, if he doesn't want to play Sharpe, he has NO REASON to because he's going to get paid $10 million/year REGARDLESS.

I dunno why anyone is surprised he said this lol, he doesn't care about winning, never really has. Would rather just pump out as many draft picks as possible. Dude has been on my **** list since the Final Four Wisconsin game.

“I have told his parents that I am not going to put him in a position where he hurts himself,” he reiterated Saturday. “I am not. And we’re going to do this, the process of this, and if he ends up playing this year because he’s capable of doing it and he can play, we’ll play him. But I’m not just shoving him in so we can win another game or stay closer. I’m not going to do that.

Stop falling for click bait without looking at the context.

I hope he does play this year. I think he will, actually. I understand why he didn’t play today. I won’t understand if he doesn’t play this year.

Y'all have to stop posting stuff without looking at context. If you don't you're just falling for clickbait.

I hope he plays as well but unintentional or intentional misquoting needs to stop. It explains how people fall for clickbait drivel you see on the news.

Would you understand if he doesn’t play this year but plays next year?
Yes, I would. And I will mea culpa and say LFG in 2022-2023. But what I’m telling you is regardless of what anyone is saying I don’t believe that’s what’s going to happen. If it does I’ll be thrilled.

I think Cal hopes to play him, but I also think Cal hoped to play Clarke last year after the injury, and hoped to play Vanderbilt in 2018.

Sometimes, a kid's circle just won't allow it to happen. Cal gets these kids here by negotiating, not demanding. For all of his talk about "earn this", it's actually: "Partner with this." It's how we ended up with duds like Gabriel, Skal, Vanderbilt, Whitney, and others.

I don't think he would throw him in there with a high profile game like this on the road. Blow out victory against someone maybe.
Hypothetical:

Dude goes in and is all world and helps win the game, he ascends to legend status and goes #1 over Banchero. Even the Alpha’s of this generation are snowflakes apparently!

My ***, in his situation, would have demanded to go into the game!

Well according to his own family they don’t care about where he’s gonna get drafted because they care more about getting the second contract not the first one. So if he’s not prepared yet to be the kinda player to get a second contract then why wouldn’t he come back regardless of where he is projected right now?

Because I’ve never seen it happen before. In fact the argument you just made is the reason why so many people here say you HAVE to go ASAP. Because the sooner you go, the sooner you get that 2nd contract. The whole argument for going early is because the 2nd contract, not the 1st.
