They get 2 yr probation for giving athlete's too much money for books, and might lose their only NCAA birth. Yet UNC makes up fake classes for years and nothing happens, and Duke gives players million dollar homes. Nice
Low hanging fruit. That's all the NCAA can enforce. They know they probably won't hire lawyers and fight them. Big bad NCAA is just a corrupt bully picking on the little guys for their lunch money. Bully them back and they run for the hills.

What a joke. The entire industry needs a ******* enema. UNC walks on generational, systemic cheating, but this. lol. Major college athletics tail wagging the dog.

265 student-athletes in 18 sports were awarded an $800 stipend to purchase textbooks. Those stipends exceeded the actual cost of books for 72 students by over $16,000. The stipends also caused 30 students to exceed their financial aid limits.

[laughing] That amounts to about $220 per student. And they got TWO YEARS PROBATION??

The article continues....

It was later learned that some of the students accepted nearly a half dozen Hershey kisses and numerous jolly ranchers from a candy jar on the desk of the American Literature professor. This resulted in a 2-year death penalty for the program and a demand that the student athletes make restitution for the candy gifts. The professor was subsequently fired for this blatant violation and the team coach will be tarred and feathered for the amusement of NCAA president Mark Emmert and his guests, which include several ACC head coaches.

I wish one of these programs would sue the NCAA on this type of issue. It could finally expose the hypocrisy.

No grounds. Member institution. NCAA could have devastated The Filth with no rule at all and decided not to do so. I will throw up after saying this, but nothing short of a congressional investigation can shed light on this.

"The investigating committee said the stipend exceeded the actual cost of books for 72 athletes by $16,180 — ranging from $5 to $734 — and caused 30 athletes to exceed their individual financial aid limits."

So Cal Poly is in trouble for helping students buy textbooks? At least they're trying to get educated unlike UNCheat. Man, the NCAA is useless.

Based on the NCAA's logic that all was well at UNC because a few regular students also took the fake classes...has anyone heard how many regular student' parents have been living in million $$$ homes in Durham provided by Duke?

This needs to start happening everywhere. It’s the standard the NCAA set. Just let normal students do it too and you can do whatever you want.

Something needs to change with the NCAA and it has to be the members that do it. I don't know what it will take but enough is enough.

The NCAA is the members. The NCAA Board of Governors (chancellors and presidents, including Eli Capilouto) hire and fire the NCAA President. They love the money and do not want things to change

You are correct. I was trying to say that but did not word it correctly. Thank you.

Cal poly should be ashamed of themselves. They can’t do that stuff. Against the rules. Ncaa should throw the book at them
They should throw the books at them. Sorry, I guess Cal Poly already did that. They should have followed the lead from UNC and they wouldn't have needed books. Fake classes don't need books. Good job NCAA. Penalize a school for trying to educate their students but let one off for providing fake classes. Cal Poly should have given a few books to regular students also.

Just like the political establishment of both major parties don’t want anything to change, because they’re afraid it’ll negatively affect their profits!
