3-4 minutes left and Cal swaps to his classic “play not to lose” stall ball and we end the game giving up a 16-0 run.

What more evidence does John Calipari need to know that stall ball is a terrible idea than having your lead collapse against Vanderbilt?

It’s something he’s done over the past decade that I’ve dreaded every single time he’s done it, and as I was typing this he just blamed his players for the way they played the last 5 minutes. Yeah I’m sure the players were passing up WIDE open 3’s after passing out of the press because the players hate scoring points and just really wanted to hold the ball for 30 seconds, I’m sure it’s the players.

This effects metrics, which then effects seeding. Not scoring and winning a game by 12 instead of 28, it lowers our offensive efficiency and a 28 point SEC road win is an eye opener when reviewing a resume.

Pulling the ball out and playing deliberate works if the players play it well. They did not, but he, as a good coach, can use this as a learning moment for later in the season. He, and I, are not happy with 16-0, but to say that he "never learns" seems a bit of hyperbole.

HIS TEAMS DO THIS EVERY YEAR, apparently the Calipari philosophy is that games are 35 minutes long, and the last 5 minutes are 30 second bouts of monkey in the middle games

We have lost and had a lot of games be closer than they needed to be by refusing to play basketball with 5 minutes left.

We have a 28 point lead from playing basketball, why stop playing basketball as a strategy at the end?

Cal REALLY wants to keep Bryce Hopkins and Collins happy. So he will play them whenever the opportunity arises, like tonight with a 28 pt lead and 5 minutes to go. Still doesn't account for the missed FT's, turnovers, sloppy defense and rushed shots.

Tonight was good for the bench. now Cal can show the tape for why certain lineups won't work. It will keep Collins and Hopkins hungry to improve.

They passed up on shot after open shot early in the shot clock, to hold the ball, not set any sort of offense, and Chuck garbage up at the basket with the shot clock expiring.

I guess, if he never learns and you feel he will never change, why complain about it? It's like going out every day and saying, "Damn, that sun comes up every day! Won't it ever stop rising?"

What do you mean he never learns? Has he lost many games because he pulled the starters too early?

So if you live in a one light town and there’s only 1 restaurant within 30 miles, every fifth time you went there, there’s a hair in your food, are you not complaining every time, or are you just going to accept that this place has hair in your food every now and then?

Because Cal is the only coach we have and we have him for life, I’m going to complain every fifth win when he shuts the offense down for a strategy that literally bleeds the lead more than the clock.

I like my analogy a lot more.

That being said, why would you go to the restaurant? I would stay home and look to cook (if you look hard you might see the idea that "cook" is symbolic of) on my own. Why would you want to live in a one restaurant town anyway? Is it, like a Casey's? Not a big fan of their pizza, but I know some are.

To be fair (to be fair, to be fair, to be fair), I'm not always a fan of Cal, but he knows a whole heck of a lot more about basketball and winning than I and about 99.99% of those on here do, so I give him the benefit of the doubt.
