Yep he's spread too thin. Fire Barbee yesterday. Probably fire Justus.
Hire people they are relevant and talented.
Cal is trying to coach this team because (robic isn't allowed to help now and Barbee apparently sucks) while also recruit (because Justus sucks).

Here we go again....I’m surprised any of you even watch a game. Your hate shows you shouldn’t. To be mad at the coaching staff, ya know, for going to multiple FF’s, always in the hunt, and feeling like we can win it all every year....is dumb. Real dumb. Our fan base will torch us when cal is gone. No one will touch it because of everyone getting mad over a Seton Hall OT loss. It sucked, yea. I was mad. Real mad. But then I looked at the big picture and realized I’ve done the same type of thinking about 6 times since Cal got hired. It’s fine. Wrinkles work out with the right method. Setting it on fire is a cowards response.

RJ, Zion and even Cam for duke could be starting for nba teams and be making highlight reels right NOW.
We have excellent players who could eventually be elite but Herro/Hagans/PJ etc are night and day to Zion/ RJ and Reddish
Why does Payne get an automatic pass? Just curious ? Justus has been the lead redueiter for a LOT of our studs.
So, fire Justus and hire who? It’s a lot easier to just say things than actually putting an idea into implementation
I tend to agree with you but we haven’t always* been in the hunt so to speak. I think we all knew the 13 team, 16 team and last years team weren’t going to be a legit threat for the FF (and that’s perfectly fine)

Yes, that’s true. Maybe an overstatement. But in the end, we still play and get excited come March. Except for the year that never existed. Don’t even remember the year.

Barrett and Zion are a cut above. Reddish is just a normal top 10 type of freshman player. Meaning he's clearly very good, but also flawed in a way that would be more exposed if he wasn't playing next to 2 absolute studs.
Reddish is shooting under 40%, has more TO's than assists, and his rebounding numbers read like a 2 guard (who's not a great rebounder). His 3 point shooting has been about what people expected (solid but not great), so that means the low FG% comes from him not knowing how to find shots when the 3 isn't available. Unlike Barrett or Williamson, he's not a huge threat with the ball in his hands.
Which illustrates something about recruiting- there might be 25 five star freshman every year, but the number who can come into college and lead an elite team to great success from day 1 is far fewer than that. Some years (like this one), it might only be a couple of guys.
I don't think UK has had any the last 2 years. SGA and Knox were major talents, but not ready to be the key guys on a top 5 team. Keldon Johnson has been very good, but he's not likely to be in consideration for All-American awards.
That is an amazing piece!! While my thoughts have been mostly recruiting, I failed to look at the game side of things. That's an excellant idea. Football teams have them to oversee aspects of the game, why not basketball. Insightful and honest assessment of where we are now.
I honestly dont think it's so much that anything is broke but it doesnt seem that either aspect of the game where it needs to be. Cal is a great coach on both ends of the court but when you dont have time to spend the neccessary practice time to those aspects, its shows on the court. Since we basically start over every year, Cal is spending all his time on the basics of basketball, rather than implementing anything worth wild on either end. He should delegate some of that responsibility on someone like the article said. Delegate some of the responsibility to another really good coach in a certain aspect and allow Cal to focus more on what he wants to do. Now, it doesnt change the fact that we start over but it will allow Cal to focus more on defense and let someone else worry about the other end of the floor. It may not work because teaching the "basics" and correcting bad habits may still take up too much time but hell, it's worth a shot and I think it's obvious that something has to change. I think it's a great idea.
He gets a pass because he's an incredible developer of talent. Plus that fact has a passive assist in recruiting.
I haven't read anywhere that a player came to UK because Joel justus. Yes he happened to be lead recruiter when people committed. But added no value to the recruitment.
Who can he hire? I'm not an expert on available assistant coaches but anyone is better than two we currently have that are adding zero value to the program
Agreed. Getting them to stay here long enough to become elite is the problem. 2 years seems to be the max at UK, they either go to G league or transfer.

If you don’t understand using the term “ anyone” will illicit others asking who you mean by “anyone” then perhaps you should stay off the internet as well. You can’t name anyone is the thing. I’m willing to bet others who hold the opinion that we need to replace some of our staff actually have other options in mind instead of pretending to know what they’re talking about (you in this case )
If you want to discuss college basketball then discuss it. Don’t resort to tantrums and attempts to discredit others who question your thought (lack there of?) process
It has gotten so bad that I thought about switching over to the HOB but I'm not into football now and thats what damn near every threads about.
Sounds good but with the turnover he spends most of the year teaching effort and defense. There won’t be much left to teach offensive schemes.
The hardest position to figure out is PG - especially on a Calipari team- and we have two really good ones. I think we’ll be fine. But I’m definitely a sunshine pumper.
Is it negative, or just hard facts that some Cal lovers can't see the pepper for the fly ****. I'm not a Cal Hater, or a Cal Lover. I'm a UK lover, and I just want a coach who is capable of hanging No. 9. I don't care who it is. Just realize that your representing UK, not the NBA.

Hiring guys who are recruiters and don't seem to bring much else is what led to the downfall of Joker Phillips. We had coaches that were great at finding lesser recruits and coaching them up under Coach Brooks. So what does Joker do? He fired them all and brings in "recruiters". Everyone knows how that ended up.
We have to have coaches that are very good teachers of the game when it comes to having freshmen dominated teams every year. Unfortunately, I am not sure if a few of the current assistants are carrying their weight in that department. At Kentucky, recruiting should mostly take care of itself. We shouldn't need elite recruiters to get good players here, but we definitely could use some elite teachers of the game for all of the freshmen we have.

The poster said the same thing I did: Cal needs help. He either needs someone who can instruct, so he can recruit. Or someone who can recruit, so he can instruct. Right now he has neither.
Robic needs to get his act together and get back on the staff so he can help. We haven't been the same since he took his step back. The program misses his instruction
I think to many of the fans love Cal more then UK, are doing that. I am the opposite! I love UK more then I love any coach. Get the job done, and I want you as coach of UK. When you quit getting the job done, I want you out, and next coach up. I have NO allegiance to coaches, but I have a LOT of allegiance to UK. Coaches only respect the DOLLAR,$$$$$$.

It has nothing to do with the NBA and he sure as hell isn't trying to represent the NBA. It's about the kids to him. People want to spin it like it's about the NBA, it's just not. Cal cares about these kids and having their families taken care of and that means by getting them to the league. He has said that he wants them to have careers and not just make it there. He wants them to get to that 2nd contract. So, if anyone thinks that Cal is pushing these kids out the do who arent ready for that level, they're crazy as hell.
