I think he adds a reclassify or Blackshear.

We still need 1 more big I think. You are an injury or foul trouble away from being thin down low.

I'm guessing based off rumors that Dante is the #1 target if a reclassify and clearly it is Blackshear if grad transfer.

This would take pressure off Nick and allow EJ to focus on PF alone with Sestina spelling him some.

3 players all sharing time at the 5, Sestina at the 4 when we need two rebounders on the floor. I think we are fine, but another consistent interior scoring threat wouldn’t hurt my feelings.

We have plenty of bigs as 4 is what you want but I do agree I think we might add 1 more since brooks can play some 3 as well and will ( though he more of a 4 in college then a 3 ) .

Where’s the muscle? No we are not set in front court not if cal is serious about having a title team. What he has right now has an elite 8 ceiling and that’s pushing it

If Cal wants muscle ....he'd put Sestina at the 5 ......

we may want Dante or Blackshear or Todd but they wont come here with 4 guys at the PF / C spots already.

In '13-14 we had Poythress, WCS, Willis, Randle, Lee, and Johnson at the 4/5.

In '14-15 we had Poythress, Lyles, WCS, Lee, Johnson, Willis, and Towns.

It wouldn't be unheard of.

JMHO...things to consider.

1. Allen is not even going to be 10 months from ACL + the collarbone. I am a huge fan of his but cannot reasonably expect much his freshman year.

2. Brooks is more of a 3 than a 4. I don't care what he played in HS....he just is.

3. EJ is not a 5. He is a big 3 or preferably a 4.

* Considering above I look for Brooks to be primary backup to Whitney at the 3...Sestina primary backup to EJ at the 4. Juzang will get spot time at 2 and 3 and Brooks spot time at 4. This leaves Nick to essentially man the 5 spot with little help. EJ isn't strong enough and Sestina is more of a face the basket guy.

For all of the above reasons I think Cal is trying to get another big in here.

I ain’t here to fight with ya but I disagree on most of that. Allen will be 100% by the time practice starts unless he has a set back somewhere between now and then. Brooks is PF with step out ability. I’m sure he can run the sf position in a pinch but I think it’ll be 80/20 PF for him. EJ isn’t a 3 in anyway but I do agree he isn’t a traditional 5 either. He is a PF. With that said, I think we’d be fine with him being our “C”. Cal will play small ball hopefully. JMO

I think Cal will also add one more if he can. We basically have Richards at the 5 and nobody else. Montgomery and Sestina are 4's. Brooks is a 3/4. There is plenty of playing time available at the 5 for a guy like Blackshear...or Dante/Maker if we can get one of them to reclass. It really shouldn't be that hard to sell. Even if Richards starts, we know there will be plenty of minutes available, as he is prone to foul trouble.

I here ya and I hope Allen is back. He is from my neighboring county and I've wanted the kid at UK for a couple years now. I am sure he is working his tail off to get back, I am just not ready to set paper expectations on him as the primary backup at the wing.

My point on EJ is more that he isn't a 5 than that he is a 3. Clearly he is a 4.

From what I've seen of Brooks in watching him play, I don't see him as a PF. He is listed between 6'7 and 6'9, 185 to 200 lbs. In fact most of the sites have him even listed as a SF.

Either way, regardless of what we list Brooks, EJ, etc....they'll play what they are told. But if I'm looking at the roster and Sestina/Brooks/EJ/Nick are our bigs, I'm concerned as follows:

1. Bulk- NR is only big guy
2. Fouls- NR and EJ had per 40 foul rate of 6.8/5.7 last yr. Could get better, one would hope.
3. Depth- if anyone fouls out or is injured we are in deep sh*t.
4. Unknown- can say this almost any year but Sestina is coming from a mid major as a role player. Maybe he is better than Travis, who knows...but we knew who RT was when we got him. Brooks, again to me, he just isn't a 4....I don't see him banging with SEC bigs from a bulk standpoint.

Hey, but you are 100% right on small ball. That could be the plan....not disagreeing there.

I think hes done.. He will obviously entertain anyone wanting to reclassify or transfer, but I feel he just got very comfortable after today's announcement.

Hes as hard of a worker as there is but hes in the drivers seat now. If your a quality player and your serious about playing at UK next year you go to Cal. Hes already reached out to who hes interested in..

We are loaded...unless it's some super star talent reclass I don't think we need anyone

Good points there. I think those are all legit concerns. I don’t think Brooks is a traditional PF like a Patrick Patterson but more of a small ball PF. I don’t think he handles the ball well enough to be a true SF. But you’re right. They will play we’re they are told to play.

We don’t “Need” another big. But if one talented enough to get minutes also wants to come you take him. We’re good at the 4/5 slot if this is the roster though.

Foul trouble and injuries. You need a 4th big. We have no clue if Sestina is going to have any impact. If he doesn't, now you're rotation changes.

It will be interesting to see what Cal does now.

He could be finished. He has 13 players (10 scholarship players and three walkons) on the roster right now. He has went into the season with less before.

But another big man seems like a logical move with three open scholarships.

And if he plans to play Montgomery at the 4, he probably should add another guy at the 5.

I'm sure we will hear something soon on the matter.

Please name 8 teams with a more complete roster than us next year with our team as it is.

I respectfully disagree kind person. I had plenty of people tell me we didn't need to replace Baker too.

Bottom line is this team will likely be fine without another big. BUT, Richards is the only true big we have right now. If he continues to struggle offensively and be foul prone, it will not turn out well.

Need a big jump with him and EJ this year. I personally would feel a lot better adding Blackshear or a reclassify.

I'm on record as saying Nick needs 4 years here to be best version of himself. He isn't a 30 minute a night guy right now and without that, could be an issue.
