"He was better today." Well, that statement in a vacuum is hard to respond to. He might have been pretty bad and still better than before - it's hard to know what Cal meant, exactly. If you're expecting him to punk IB publicly, like many on her want him to do, you're going to be disappointed.

I took my kid to Cal's camp in June and one thing that was obvious - really obvious to anyone watching - was that this was going to be IB's team. The coaches gave him that role, and he took it, and the other players went along with it. For better or worse. maybe in hindsight they'd do it differently, I don't know. But the point is this - you can't operate on that basis for 90% of a season, have an understanding among everyone that Isaiah leads this team - and then take it away or start switching roles at the end of February. That's a good way to cause chaos and lose a team, and lose that player guaranteed. His play has left much to be desired lately, but Cal isn't going to somehow demote him to give Mulder more minutes or something. It's not just a matter of playing time, it's a matter of how the team is structured or organized. JMO.

This is ridiculous...IF Cal doesnt do anything with his minutes we will be going home very early. He kills our offensive flow because he cant shoot..if he isnt getting into the paint he is a liability. I dont care what anyone says his minutes should be dropped in favor of Moulder or Hawkins...notice how teams DO NOT sag off either of the two and makes post play easier and the dribble drive easier.

Knowing teams are going to leave you WIDE OPEN from 12 ft out has GOT TO motivate you to show the world you can make that shot!!

Why can't Isaiah make that shot at least as much as he did to start the year?

Then there is the turnovers. Why is he continually making unforced errors when he's the "Leader" of our team?

These 2 areas are killing our ability to reach the next level. What's worse is that he's KILLING his NBA Draft stock.

Not sure why this would be an issue after last night as when he was in he was good for the most part. Probably the 2nd or 3rd best player in the game ( all but Bam were average though lets be honest) . Not his fault he was called for 2 horrendous charing calls while posting up.

Duke's Coach K has done the same thing over the years with players like Chris Carrawell, Sean Dockery, Tyler Thornton and now Matt Jones. Declares them the team 'leader' and they get minutes when better players sit on the bench.

Cal can call Briscoe the leader all he wants, but he doesn't seem to be inspiring anyone to run through walls.

There is an uneasiness about the team. They look uncomfortable together.

We are winning, and I'm glad of that, but Saturday will tell us a lot. We can't afford all the mistakes we've been making against a team like Florida.

For my money, most of those mistakes stem from a team that simply isn't on the same page with each other or their coach.

How dare the coach play who he wants to , rafters should decide

Just shut up. You can worship Cal, that's fine. But a lot of us watch and form our own opinions based on what we see...not what a marketing genius tells us to think. Cal is awesome. I love him here. But there is plenty of evidence to support Briscoe playing less.

Take away all the layups Briscoe makes and this team has lost 8 to 10 games this year. He drives me nuts as well, but I'll take 23-5 and the headaches all day every day. This team struggles bigtime to score and all those layups have kept us from having a disaster season. You want him off the floor? OK, then that's a bunch of more threes being shot and lots of misses.

I like briscoe but i wish somehow fox could assume the title of team leader. as our pg i think that knowing that it's his team would up his game and make him a better play maker.
That's just the way i see it as a fan, as i'm certainly not a basketball savant.
Anyone else feel that way?

Briscoe is one of our greatest assets while simultaneously being one of our greatest liabilities. He's an enigma wrapped in a conundrum.

Cal must have been watching a different player playing in a different game. This is on par with his draft quote on Bam.

Cal is doing the same thing with Briscoe that he did with Andrew Harrison. His leash is twice as long as anyone else's on the team. Andrew had about the same skills and is D league material. Sorry guys but he is a turnover waiting to happen and cannot shoot a lick. Sad but so.

Briscoe brings a lot to the table...
scoring
Rebounding
Assists
Solid d
Toughness
Swag

Turnovers don't justify decreasing his minutes for Mulder who is a shooter and that's about it or Hawkins who plays solid D and makes avg passes and the occasional shot.

I'm glad Cal understands my sentiment even if a bunch of you belly-achers do not.

To a certain extent Briscoe is getting his minutes by default. We don't have a do it all small forward, a 6-7 guy who can shoot, take guys off the dribble, and rebound. So, one could make a case that Cal just decided IB was our best option and built the team around the 3 guard concept (again). I think there were other options that if we explored them earlier in the season (Muldur or Willis & Gabriel on the floor together) could have made us a more formidable team come tourney time. Cal chose not to go that route so we'll live or die with the 3 guard lineup, and IB playing heavy minutes. I fear it won't work out well for us.

Andrew Harrison has played in 53 of the Memphis Grizzlies' 58 games this season. Another example of the one and done who didn't quite make it the first year and was hated.

Briscoe is Archie Goodwin 2.
We're going nowhere as long as Cal lets that happen. And he will.

You guys just keep on thinking that Fox and Briscoe in the game together is a good idea.... it just makes people like myself look that much smarter in comparison.

I guarantee you Cal knows .......... he's too stubborn and too loyal to change it though. He's riding with Briscoe come hell or high water. We are after all talking about the guy who took 4/5'ths of a season to figure out Skal wasnt a back to the basket player and even returned to starting him even though Willis was healthy again ( you know, the stretch 4 who helped us play the best we've played all season for a long stretch) Sometimes the Stubborn aspect works out like in 2011, with Teague's early struggles, and in 2014....... and sometimes they dont...

Cal will let him play his way out of whatever issue he's having, if any. This exactly what he should do to give this team its best chance. End of story.

Cal stuck by the Harrisons when they were terrible in '14- paid off.

I remember Tubby sticking with Allen Edwards when he was awful in '98- paid off.

Coaches can't be as knee jerk as us fans.

But But Rupps Rafters posters are Basketball Genuises! They want to throw out the baby with the bath water. They don't get the process. What will these fools do if IB has a fantastic tournament run? Will they still hate the guy?

Oh .. is Briscoe at the 3 going to start shooting 35+ % from 3pt range to keep defenders from backing off of him and clogging the lane? NO? then its not our best chance.

Did you notice how Fox got to the rim much easier when Briscoe fouled out the last two games? Think about it and discover the way to play that really is our best chance.

I agree with your take,on the flip side Briscoe comes up with tough rebounds,he hustles and does several good things.Maybe he pushes the toughness envelop a little too far sometimes but this team lacks that when he doesn't do it. Even with his flaws we need Briscoe on the floor. I like Mulder but he doesn't bring rebounding and toughness to the table. I don't think we can go 2 guard and start Willis and Gabriel.

Briscoe does some good things, and he negates some of those good things with turnovers and ball stopping.

Mulder actually rebounds about as well as Briscoe: 6.6 per 40 minutes compared to 7.

It isn't an easy answer. We need Briscoe on the court for his hustle and grit, but at the level he's playing now, he may not always be the most effective option.
