Give him credit for staying the hell away from Kentucky basketball.

Just look at how he "helps" us sitting on the tournament committee.

Cal should get to pick his successor along with input from Mike Pratt. No way in Hades should Mitch get another crack at hiring a UK basketball coach.
LOL Cal should pick? you may not have noticed but Cal doesn't even coach for UK.... he is mentor for pros(they just wear UK gear) have you ever hear him say "players first"... I really wish they would hire a UK coach

Another thread where some of our posters display profound ignorance about the influence (or lack of) that a selection committee member has on their own team.

It’s getting embarrassing. Cal is dead on the money.

Well, obviously, Cal was wrong to back Mitch and the conspiracy theorists here are right.

But.....that means...GASP!!!

Are they both part of the conspiracy?!??!

SMH...some people's ignorance and jealousy of other programs are pitiful.

YOU'RE FANS OF THE GREATEST BB PROGRAM EVER.....ACT LIKE IT!!!

UK is the biggest draw in CBB, save maybe Duke who gets the bandwagon fans.

What time does UK possibly play on Saturday? Yep, prime time slot.

Who could they potentially play? The best player in the country on a team surrounded by controversy. Think that might bring ratings?

This is all about money and ratings. Mitch will never have more power than the almighty dollar.

There are other guys in the room when the CEOs of Goldman Sachs or Enron make their decisions, and no one gives a **** about their decisions either. Because their decisions are based purely and solely on money, just like the NCAA's decisions.

The only conspiracy here is that the NCAA will do whatever it takes to maximize profits for their most profitable event.

UK IMO is only a victim of being the biggest draw out there and therefore will always be put in the position that makes the most money for the NCAA. It's as simple as that IMO.

Where did I imply Mitch was in favor of Texas Tech's seed? Where was I bashing Mitch? My original post was to ask Mitch if he was in the room when they mis-seeded Texas Tech. If so, how can a team be seeded 10th overall and not have one poll or metric that confirms the seed.

Well, you started throwing the implication word around so I ran with it. That said, here is how you IMPLIED he was somehow complicit or lacking insight on Tech.

So what if he was in the room? Your very mention of him in that context suggests you suspect he was somehow remiss or otherwise out of line. Fact remains these seedings are done by COMMITTEE!!! Mitch can no more override or veto any decision they make than you can. He's a player on a team and I bet he's a small one. I don't know what he voted or even if they vote. I know only that he has one man's input among many and machines may make the biggest contribution of all. Even suggesting the man is somehow responsible for our seeding or the overall seeding is ludicrous. Note that I'm not saying you specifically are accusing him but your post sure seems to bring him into that conversation totally out of context.

If you want to know what drives these odd ball seeding and bracket decisions, follow the same thing you'd follow with any sort of corruption. Follow the money and TV ratings in this case. A lot of people LOVE to watch us win. A lot of people LOVE to watch us lose. Not that many really don't give a damn about us. This translates to interest and viewership. Are we getting screwed intentionally every year? Probably not. Are we getting used and exploited? Almost certainly. Not a damn thing Mitch can do about that. You have to deal with the corruption. Everyone knows where that comes from and very darn little a single member institution can do to change it.

Cal seems to be the only sane person in the conversation. I agree with him. He likes his basketball team. They have games to play. He's absolutely correct. At this point, that's all that matters.

This guy is on the right path.

My question is, why eliminate the biggest drawing team OR the best player in college basketball on the first weekend of the tournament?

That business model is HORRIBLE!!

I bet Mitch has a very small penis. Kinda that goofy guy. Decent Barney Fife likability but has a very small dong.

Gonna be honest here. Men with small dongs suck in negotiating.

In the end they need to strike while the iron is hot.

No matter how many Rooferees are out there, in the end the games are unpredictable.

Creating the potential for the most possible drama along the way is the best bet, and setting up first weekend drama is better. That's why we get the potential murderer's row path with the early mis-seeded teams.

UK (or any other team) may get beat in that first weekend regardless so setting up an early heavyweight showdown with the the biggest drawing team is a great business model, win or lose. Especially in a year where few people have UK as a legit threat. JMHO

Wichita St was not the overall #1 seed in 2014. But, facts are optional.
But UK shouldn't have been an 8 seed, either: Bracket Matrix http://bracketmatrix.com/matrix_2014.html (see the 6 in the Matrix column? That's where UK was predicted. But...are you actually literate?). Or Massey: https://www.masseyratings.com/cb/arch/compare2014-19.htm.

Facts are optional, right?

Who gives a crap that UK didn't have to play the #1 overall seed in the 2nd round when the fact remains that they very much did have to play a(n) (undefeated) 1 seed in the 2nd round, when that shouldn't have happened at all.

You are truly awful.
