The worrisome thing is that Maybe we could’ve all said it was rumor

But with Hagans play of late and Cals statement today it all sounds pretty accurate, sadly :(

I want to think it is a rumor. It is incredibly disappointing as a fan to have a player "checked out" a week before the tournament.

As a competitor I don't even understand how he can do that.

Wait! You mean Cal and Hagans aren't the first 2 that got into a verbal spat in the heat of the moment? [roll]

Well really I am not sure who all was talking....but here goes

°Hagans is concerned about draft stock
°Hagans checked out weeks ago
°Compared to Briscoe situation
°Concerned about trusting him to run show, move Maxey to point was discussed
°Immature or something to that affect, posts on social media, etc. They wouldn't get specific.

The piece about "checked out weeks ago" was very concerning to me.

I also must add these are all things they are hearing. Again, I don't know who all said which parts, I don't listen to the show regularly. But it was Pilgrqm, David Sisk and Travis Graf on the show I heard.
Thank you for posting. If this is true, sounds like someone needs to put Hagans in his place, either the staff or fellow players. I’ve been holding off to see how UK comes out against Florida, before going in any direction. If they play a competitive, hard game (even if they lose) I’ll be going into the tournament with some confidence. If they play like the last 10 minutes of the Tennessee game, Ill be concerned.

I don’t think any of our fans dislike or wish anything bad on Hagans. There might be one or two ********, but that’s it. Everybody wants to see him get back on track and play great for his sake as well as the team’s. Hopefully that’s exactly what we’ll see Saturday, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned.

I just last week said I like Hagans because he always seemed more or less to be smiling and at least trying. But now this stufd and the media saying theres more going on and Cal has legit reasons to throw him under the bus, it makes me view him in a different light, especially the refusing to go in. Youre the starting PG....you HAVE to be the example, IDGAF what year you are. Whatever the issues are, hopefully the team's had a come to Jesus meeting with each other and Cal works his mental mojo. We still have plenty left to play for guys. Forget Tennessee, beat Florida's *** tomorrow and march through Nashville.

Seems like when he got that 2nd foul you could see the pot boiling. He knew that by rule he was done for the half and immediately looked unhappy about it.

Couldn’t form a coherent sentence if he had to. I don’t listen to any of his rambling anymore.
A psychologist will tell you this response is not a good sign. The fact he dances around it and is incoherent tells you it has not been resolved. Had it really just been a heat of the moment thing, and they later hugged it out in the locker room, he would have definitively said so and had a direct response like he did to the other issue. This was not resolved and there are still tensions there unfortunately.

It is not even about the spat. The spat is just a symptom of a bigger underlying issue that has been brewing with Hagans for weeks now. And it has created quite a problem for himself, Cal, and the whole team.

Izzo had a much worse meltdown with his PG Winston the other night when they had just fought back from 17 points down to take the lead. And Winston had almost single handedly brought them back. But he failed to run something Izzo called, and EVEN THOUGH HE SCORED ON THE PLAY, Izzo went crazy on him in the timeout.

So, how do you think Winston took that hard coaching?
Pout? No
Refuse to go back in? No.
He went back out there and led his team to victory.

Now, compare that to how AH is handling his business.

That is the problem.

Briscoe 2.0.... I said it, a couple of weeks ago, it could be leaning that way.
Not looking for a pat in the back. Just sayin

Never stopped loving him. He's just in a funk. Basketball-related or not, we need him to snap out of it. We need Ashton to make a deep run, regardless of what role that is going forward.

Ashton when playing at his peak (for example, anytime we play Georgia) is an unbelievable player.

then he needs to pretend he is playing Georgia 30 times a year

Meh I don't care one way or another about players and coaches getting into arguments. for one thing it's for the coach to deal with. For another, that just tells me the player is competitive. The only thing that bothers be is ever in the history of man kind having a point guard that can't shoot. Drives me freakin nuts. It will come back and bite you every now and then.

He did. Don’t have as much of a problem with Hagans as I do cal for the situation. He knew the kids head was not right, knew things were going south with him in the game and sat and watched it all unfold to the tune of a loss. Cal after all this time will still not do what it takes to win a game, he’d rather lose his way and he has shown this over many times. Winning titles ain’t easy, winning titles with a stubborn coach set in his ways makes it that much harder as margin for error gets thinner when your coach won’t adjust when needed.

Thanks for posting this. I haven't listened to them before, but may start now. This sounds spot on when you go back and watch the last 10 or so games. Ashton is playing his OWN game whenever he feels like it. His individual game has looked HORRIBLE during that time and you would think he KNOWS this and would play in a way to correct it.

However, Matt Jones mentioned on his show today that he spoke with an NBA scout that said Hagans was valued MUCH HIGHER than what fans thought. He said he would DEFINITELY be drafted because of his defense and POTENTIAL, which BLEW MY MIND!!!

So, if Ashton KNOWS he will be drafted and he's sick of not being in the spotlight, maybe he's just going through the motions. I truly believe the "Vote Nick and Quick" campaign was the final straw for him, which is beyond ridiculous for him to be JEALOUS!! Coach Cal has went out of his way to praise Ashton ALL season long even when it made Cal look bad. So for him to be upset with Cal for ANYTHING just makes him look SELFISH.

Ashton has played like CRAP for most of the year, so how he could feel good about where his game is right now to the point of being SNITTY with Cal, is MIND BOGGLING!!

Trust me, it pains me to even hear it or post it.

AH was great at the father/son camp and was firat one to take a pic with my kid...in fact he went out of his way to do it without even being asked.

The guys on the podcast did say "if it is true" several different times, so who knows?

All that said at this point we can only hope he pulls his head out of his butt if that is where it is. He should understand that if he plays at a high level and gets more time to show his skills in tourney it is better for his future.

Didn't Maxey say there was some head butting? This is normal in the stages of group development - Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing. Many thought we were in the Norming phase, so we had a temporary fall back - no big deal. Effective teams won't stay in Storming long, and you will see, come Dance time, they will be in the Performing stage.

He should cut the hair. Ever since he’s grown it out longer and longer he’s played worse.

All they’re hearing is all we ve been seeing. You couple this with cals incoherence on the subject and it is what it is. Time to bench hagans and if he causes any other drama boot him. I would rather lose with everyone giving their best than one guy killing us for draft stock. The last 5 years are starting to look like tubby years with all the discipline problems. We all the sudden maybe in the midst of another team turmoil.

Cal will not risk Ashton's draft stock for a Florida win or the SEC tourney.
Draft stock is a top 3 priority for Cal with his devotion to these kids.

He does it on purpose. He knows the media will twist his words. I would never tell those jokers anything either.

The moment he says something negative. It turns into Hagans is a cancer! Smart guarded response.

I agree.

I will even go as far as to say that even if Ashton is a team "cancer", Cal would NEVER expose it to the media. He will protect the player AND his program by not airing their dirty laundry to the press.

Everyone will be able to see what Cal's response to this is tomorrow during the UF game.

When Cal feels like saying none of your business that’s exactly the way he puts it. I think he is at the point that he really has no idea of what to expect from Hagans or this team.
You're more concerned than I am.

Hagans needs to be benched if players like brooks see a major problem which is what he indicated in his statement about living him. I care about hagans too but it will be a bitter pill to swallow if we get knocked out of the tournament again bc hagans didn’t bring it mentally. I’d rather lose with the rest of the guys giving 110% than with hagans continuing to do what he has done the last couple months. I think he needs a lesser role at this point one that can’t kill the team chemistry. Having an inconsistent pg is a team killer

I think you're jumping to conclusions. Hagans was bad. And I don't appreciate his behavior on Tuesday. But he's not a cancer.

We lost that game because our bigs let freaking Fulkerson manhandle them. Hagans can play poor but if our bigs don't man up down there. It's an early exit.

Against auburn? It started with hagans. He even admitted he wasn’t prepared for the game. Can a team win the super bowl with their qb going headcase? Same with the pg in basketball that’s where it all begins. One link on a team can break the entire thing down.
