Cal danced around Hagans question

Cal admitted something went on but gave a long drawn out confusing answer. Basically “a heat of the moment” thing. I’m shocked he even admitted anything went on. But figured his answer would be gibberish lol! I’m ok with it, I didn’t expect him to throw Hagans under the bus.

Couldn’t form a coherent sentence if he had to. I don’t listen to any of his rambling anymore.
He had a really concise statement on the racial slur then came back to it and had some rambling statement that was incoherent. You never get anything out of Cal, might as well just have the assistants do the pressers.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about Cal's coaching. But his degree of coherence and thoughtfulness is an objective fact -- and John Calipari is one of the clearest, most illuminating speakers among all of the coaches in college basketball. I'd put him very near the top, as would virtually any journalist who has covered him, and all his coaching peers.

Will go one of two ways..either disintegrate the team or bring them closer together as brothers. Fairly certain the latter is most likely.

Never stopped loving him. He's just in a funk. Basketball-related or not, we need him to snap out of it. We need Ashton to make a deep run, regardless of what role that is going forward.

Ashton when playing at his peak (for example, anytime we play Georgia) is an unbelievable player.

This was my thinking then I listened to a portion of that flipping podcast

This happens at every program, I can guarantee it. Things like this happen during the course of a season. Players are emotional. Coaches are emotional. They clash heads from time to time (cough cough Boogie). Just as long as they talk it out after the game, which I can guarantee Cal probably called him into the office and they had a great talk. It will not carry over to Saturday. It's in the past.

Now let's go beat the Gators and end the reg season on a high note.

Family flare up. In the rear view. Move on. Didn’t any of you ever play ball and see frustration spill out between competitive coaches and players.
It happens. Probably a good thing to get it out and over. Start another winning streak just like our 78, 96, 98, and 2012 title teams did after late losses. Regroup reset and charge on

Cal made the statement in one of his interviews, possibly at the end of the game as he was leaving the court, that Hagans was struggling with immaturity issues.
I thought his comment was a little strange based at the time but I think that is the biggest problem with AH.
He is just too immature to handle the tremendous responsibility and pressure that goes with being PG for Cal. And the only way he knows how to respond to that is by lashing out at Cal and his teammates.

Cal has to be the grownup here and do the right thing for the other players on this team, also. Can't just be about AH.

Its clear theres more going on. This isnt some isolated incident. Whatever is going on with Hagans, people need to be concerned. Maybe he does play well v UF. Hes been off for months. You dont refuse to go in as the starting PG. We hear in the media stuff is going on behind the scenes but no one will say what. Maybe we get it resolved now that its more public. I dunno. But the people acting like this is some isolated thing and everything is hunky dory are only fooling themsevles.

I didn't expect Cal to come out and spill his guts or throw Ashton under the bus. It's about what we expected.

Actually thought he addressed in a way that wasn't the norm in his tenure. Usually he will throw water on something quickly, be positive and move on. Sounded worn out. Thought the most telling comments were how he has admitted he has no idea what his team will do on a game to game basis. Never mentioned Hagans by name, another thing he'd have done and you weren't getting "He's the best PG in the country" or some sort of defense of him, nor did he mention him who they play through when guys are going (Quickley, Maxey, Nick, EJ, Nate were all mentioned)--and he's included him whether his performance warranted it or not in other pressers.

When you are approaching the last regular season game and generally say "I have no idea how this team is going to play/who is going to play well" that is not very assuring.

Going to be interested in seeing how they play out the rest of the year.

I agree 100% with Cal being one of the most articulate and well spoken coaches in the game, however his explanation of the Hagans incident contains none of that quality. If he had said it is a team/individual matter that has been addressed would have been much better.

I'll be honest after listening to a portion of the Sources Say podcast I am highly discouraged with this whole situation.

I've backed Hagans all season but this sounds bad. I am a positive guy as most who have read my posts know...just deflated right now.

Hagans brought negative energy to that game from tip off. He didn't look like himself and he behaved like a brat to back that up.

Only thing I caution with Sources Say Podcast is how some bring an individual take to a general situation. For instance Pilgrim lit into Tyrese Maxey and Johnny Juzang for their attitudes addressing the media and how happy they were after the loss. I went and watched both players speak. Nobody seemed happy. Maxey laughed because all the media also laughed when he was asked "Tyrese, What the hell happened?", and then he spoke as he always does. People are going to act the way they are and that's all you ask--Maxey can't be praised for always being uplifting and smiling all the time and then be expected to act like someone killed his dog. He didn't seem happy at all, but he was giving respect to opponent and admitted they got outworked and need to get and correct it. What he said and how he said it were fine, he certainly was NOT acting like "Don't care, got mine".

Juzang was quiet, didn't seem happy, never saw him smile once. So how that was taken as a negative from him is odd too.

Now I have no idea if Pilgrim was at the game or not--I assume he was, but the only presser that showed guys laughing and giddy after a Tennessee game were Juzang/Maxey when they won in Knoxville and were sitting side by side at podium.

If he saw them laughing out of the locker room on way to press responsibilities, then that could be a lot of things that have nothing to do with the game or maybe it's something that was said by coaches in locker room. How they behaved in front of the mic was fine and nowhere near as it was described by Pilgrim.

Could you give a few bullet points from the podcast?

Well really I am not sure who all was talking....but here goes

°Hagans is concerned about draft stock
°Hagans checked out weeks ago
°Compared to Briscoe situation
°Concerned about trusting him to run show, move Maxey to point was discussed
°Immature or something to that affect, posts on social media, etc. They wouldn't get specific.

The piece about "checked out weeks ago" was very concerning to me.

I also must add these are all things they are hearing. Again, I don't know who all said which parts, I don't listen to the show regularly. But it was Pilgrqm, David Sisk and Travis Graf on the show I heard.

This is exactly how I felt when watching. "Sounded worn out," is right. Worried to say, but it's feeling more and more like this is a must-win game for our CATS tomorrow. Not for ranking, not for seeding, not even necessarily for momentum... just for the overall psyche of the team. This team still has the pieces, but if they aren't playing together collectively with that will to win for each other, this season will be over sooner rather than later.

The worrisome thing is that Maybe we could’ve all said it was rumor

But with Hagans play of late and Cals statement today it all sounds pretty accurate, sadly :(

Like the rest of us frustration and struggles make us say and do things we normally would never and what we show in those time is never who we really are just what the moment brought out in us. Hope Ashton gets it together down the stretch and finds hisself, plays with freedom again and lead his team like he should be. He can win his teammates, coaches, and fans love and respect back in an instant with the right attitude of humility himself.

Wait! You mean Cal and Hagans aren't the first 2 that got into a verbal spat in the heat of the moment? [roll]

When Cal feels like saying none of your business that’s exactly the way he puts it. I think he is at the point that he really has no idea of what to expect from Hagans or this team.

Things got pretty heated between Izzo and Winston in the game right before ours on Tuesday.
Biggest difference is Winston got his crap together within the game and lead Mich St to victory.
He is a senior as well.

All they’re hearing is all we ve been seeing. You couple this with cals incoherence on the subject and it is what it is. Time to bench hagans and if he causes any other drama boot him. I would rather lose with everyone giving their best than one guy killing us for draft stock. The last 5 years are starting to look like tubby years with all the discipline problems. We all the sudden maybe in the midst of another team turmoil.
