When Cal took the job he raved at the passionate fan base and how KY only hangs Championship banners and that was what he was here for! Let’s be honest FF’s are good but it’s not a Championship banner! Unless we get a guy like AD every year it may not happen again because our players are preparing for the rigorous NBA. I like Reid but he should not be shooting 3’s down by 10...he should be posting up and going after every rebound. The run Cal has had has been great but when he complains of the fan base he needs to remember that he set these wheels in motion, so stop bitching about fans when you lose, because with the biggest fan base in all the College basketball world you’re going to have people complaining when the expectations that you have set for this program do not measure up to the standard we have all come to expect under your guidance! We love our players in the NBA but we all know not every player is ready every year and we’d all like to get to cheer their success at UK more than anything!
We also understand we are everyone’s SB, so shouldn’t we come out and play every day as if it were the SB!
I know the fan base can seem irrational at times but does it hurt in recruiting & overall success when the HC and players are calling out the fan base? I am sure younger players read that stuff as well.

does anyone think Cal would give the same speech today he gave when he came here?

I mean does anyone think he'd talk about catching UCLA? Moving the needle, being the gold standard

I don't think that's his frame of reference now.

On his introduction as coach to Kentucky, if he talked about using our program to end generational poverty, players first, its a process - people would have been looking at each other like he was crazy.

Losing sucks, but some teams are just better than you and you have to learn and get better. Losing really sucks when you lose to teams that you know are definitely not better than you, like Seton Hall, and Alabama!!

yeah but you aren't always gonna beat every team you are better than just like you are not always gonna lose to teams that are better than you.

We dropped Seton Hall and Bama but beat a UNC team that is prob at this point of the season better than us.

It happens.

What cracks me up is the fans we have here who buy into it and act like we should care about some player and his family/posse getting crazy rich over winning a championship. None of us would care one iota about these guys if they played somewhere else.

This model has grown old. It’s like watching the same movie over and over again. It’s like a new roster every year and if we don’t win it, we know we have to start back at zero because we lose most of our contributors. This program under Cal, will never experience what UNC did by losing in 2016 and then returning nearly everyone to win it in 2017. We lose the likes of Briscoe, Humphries, Gabriel, Vanderbilt, etc.

Then we convince ourselves before the season that we can win it, get a reality check when the season starts then offset it with the same excuses, “It’s a process. We’re young. They will be alright by March.” It has grown old.

Even last year, we convinced ourselves we were better than we were by ignoring we just beat a 12 and a 13 in the tournament and then lost to a 9 seed(We would’ve lost to Loyola in the next round anyways even if we did win that game).

Then brag about lottery picks and try to justify why we didn’t get to the final four again. Rinse and repeat.

Good summary. But Cal has brainwashed most of our fans so much into thinking he's a Maestro and can do no wrong. Different set of circumstances but it's almost like all the UL idiots saying Jurich could do no wrong even though everybody else could see right through him.

I think Cal is a great coach, I just don't agree with how he builds a roster. The next poor coach that follows him will have it rough because we won't have any returning pieces and will be starting completely over.

He couldn't give it because it is no longer relevant.

College basketball has changed in the last decade. Players, perceptions, blueprintsb, popularity. All these changes have increased parity big Time. Cal had the market cornered in the beginning because other coaches and schools had prejudices against the emerging OAD type philosophy - it didn't fit the traditional system.

Nowadays it seems like there are basketball factories all over the country pumping out kids that have been training at a high level their whole lives, pair that with strength and athleticism being prioritized over the basics and this is what you get - young teams, physical talents, head scratching play and roster turnover in lue of professional development.

Edit: It also feels like the NBA is getting younger and younger. Would be interested in seeing the avg player age vs 30 years ago.

Point is, Cal's pitch was what the program needed a decade ago to get the ball rolling at Camelot. I don't have an answer, just my 2c - I can say "back in the day" our youngins would be riding the pine or playing JV. Can you imagine that?

I think most fans including myself would just be happy winning the games we should be winning at this point. Alabama and Setan Hall were two recent ones

This! UK deserves a coach that wins at least 80% of the games. Wouldn’t you agree?

yea, its kind of a slippery slope - If we beat Duke we would have been #1 so then we have to beat everyone, if we lost to Duke but beat Seton Hall we'd be what? 6 or 7? I don't remember but we would have been ranked higher than UNC and would have been expected to beat them. Part of the value of beating UNC to the fanbase was - well I can't speak for everyone but I assume a good portion of the fanbase felt the team stepped up to win the game.

so I don't want to get to the point where because we lost to Bama and may fall out of the top 20 that us beating say #17 Mississippi St is considered an upset or a "huge win" for our program.

At the same time, if we were ranked #4 in the nation and lost to UT in Knoxville, I wouldn't consider that a bad loss. Wouldn't be happy about it, but losing to a good team on the road happens.

We seriously need a seperate forum for whiners and negative rhetoric that is just echoed over and over...Start one called the "kitty den" or "kitty safe space"

You all can hang in there until youre ready or until March when everyone comes running back like every year.

wouldn't this be the safe space if you're wanting to rid yourself of what you don't want to hear?

Sure.

We just need a place where they can echo the same rhetoric at each other and stop clogging up cats illustrated...its the same stuff over and over

"Tired of ugly basketball"
"Cal did this to himself"
"This is what happens when NBA is priority"
"Cal is a mediocre in game coach"

Its all just bland repetitive garbage with no substance. Like if youre gonna complain about a loss at least tall about the game. Things you saw. Mistakes that were made. Etc. Thats at least interesting. Thats what leads to interesting discussions...not the same ol crap we hear every day on this board by the same people.

so how many posts have you had today talking about the details of the game compared to how many you've made (or liked) attacking fans?

I'll hang up and listen

dmpatp liked Supafuzz75's post in the thread So, #5 Kansas loses big at Iowa St (unranked) by 77-60..
Some y'all need to drink clorox .. Itll end your suffering.. And ours..

forgive me, how could I have been so off in my judgement.

Sir, that would be called a joke...a joke that ive heard used in several other context by other people where both parties thought it was funny. You really are desperate to try and paint this little narrative...you are just reaffirming my initial point that you all need your own space...cause if you think this is being "attacked" than you dont leave the house much or youve been watching too much rachel maddow.
