There is plenty to criticize Cal for but exactly what is the gripe today? He made Wallace stink up the gym? He made Toppin drop the ball OOB when it was a 4 point game right before the half or made him miss 2 easy shots around the rim when we had 4 point lead? He made Theiro (who almost everyone on this board wants to play more) throw the ball right to Georgia twice? He made Reeves go cold down the stretch? I'm ready for him to move on (at least after next year) but this game was on the players.
When we took the 52-48 lead I started charting when UK took their first shot vs. Georgia’s first shot with regards to the shot clock. I stopped after 7 or so possessions because it was pointless—we would always take our first shot with 15 seconds or less and Georgia would shoot with 15 or seconds or more. That’s called conservative vs. aggressive and sadly it’s not changing as long as Cal is here. He gets a lead and takes the foot off the gas. It’s fine when you have lottery picks but not fine with this type of roster. And a wounded roster at that. We deserved to lose this game.
You are completely right. I’ve done my share of Cal bashing but man Wallace was beyond bad after looking like a lottery pick in some games. With Wheeler and Frederick out there was no other options but Thiero who played good until those 2 killer turnovers.
