Not going to say much because we were simply beaten to a pulp. But while this is fresh, I have just a bit to get off my chest.

Talent difference was immense. Fine, that happens.

But Cal completed wilted. He sat on the bench and did not coach the players. He failed in direction, preparedness, and with coming up with alternative game planning.

At least in the second half he told the players to run a few sets. By then the game was so far out of reach it didn’t matter.

So yes upset at the loss and lack of players performance. But much more upset with the coaching staff just sitting and watching.

Coach the darn team.

Rant over.

I get it, and don't entirely disagree. But you can't coach heart and you don't take the quit out of quitters. This team has a bunch of quitters.

Right now they do.

We are extremely young and dont have the top 3 players in the country.

I think the boys were shell shocked. Combo of early in season, youth and three dominate players on the other side.

Shocked these boys

Cal said he would step down the day that teams don’t fear his teams and he thinks he’s doing poorly. I’m not saying he should go yet, but we haven’t had a good team since 2015. It keeps going downhill. He has got to change or results like this will continue to happen.

They've played against these guys for years, so there should have been no surprises. But yes, I agree they may have been shocked. They were shocked by the fact that Duke's guys grew up and realized this is college basketball now, and our guys still wanted to approach it like it's AAU.

Agree. They have all played AAU ball against each other since early HS.

One thing I did not like was Havana getting chippy in the second half. Down by 30 keep your mouth shut and go play defense.

I think we should all willing to see where this team and season goes. this loss was horrific but it is early. that being said, Duke isn't going to get worse (barring injury) before March.

If these kind of losses and seasons occur it may be time to find his heir. Again, let's see where this season goes. We have a lot of good players and a capable coaching staff. Let's just give that staff some time to prove their capabilities once again. They have good pieces to a good team. no excuses this season.

I wouldn't of sat on the bench and sulked the whole game. Do you have an actual argument that counters a program decline since the 14-15 season? or are personal attacks the only weapons at your disposal?
Personal attacks LMFAO! You want to run our our coach out of town while you all have been ball gargling him all this fall for one lost LOL!

38–1 is hard to improve on but I see what your saying.
It certainly is. At that point the only way is 40-0. but that's not we're asking for (but it would be sweet).

We saw great recruiting and coaching from the time Cal got here until the end of the 14-15 season. and you could argue he got out-coached in that game against Winsy.

Since then the recruiting has been good (minus a lack of top 5 talent).

I never said anything about running him out of town. I said he's gotten lazy. I then said as much of an insult as that is it's also a compliment because we know he's better at coaching than what we saw tonight.

Coach Cal is NOT God and he can be criticized.

Are you of the belief that what we saw from our coach tonight was his absolute best effort at coaching his team?

Lazy huh? Dude is how old and all over the country recruiting non stop, think before you speak. Lazy and Cal don't go together, he looks like he has aged 20 years at UK.

Cal was pathetic. The players were pathetic. All systems failure in a historic loss.
I am a Cal guy, but tonight was awful. Hard to say this, but I have doubts that I haven't had since he's been here.

Defense is non existent. Either the Bahamas trip was a fluke or these guys are not the level I thought they were.

I have been worried about the backcourt. They are not that god and Cal's best teams have very good guard play. Could be a very disappointing season if this is who they are.

You keep going back to recruiting, which is NOT what I'm criticizing. Here, let me make it clear for you:

COACH JOHN VINCENT CALIPARI HAS DONE A GOOD JOB AT RECRUITING BASKETBALL PLAYERS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY!!! WE COULD USE A FEW MORE TOP 5 PLAYERS BUT OTHERWISE HE HAS OUTRECRUITED ALL OF HIS PREDECESSORS IN RECENT MEMORY!!

What I criticizing is his coaching. I know he capable of more and think he could of done a better job of getting this team ready for Duke. I also think he could of done a better of job of coaching his team during the game.

Now I'll ask you again, and please answer the question I ask and not one you make up for me:

Do you, @Rideordiewildcat, believe this game and it's preparation to be Coach Cal's absolute best effort in terms of coaching? again, I am asking about coaching, not recruiting.

I believe he puts the in the best chance to win, but they have to execute and he needs to give up on making everyone happy especially players who contribute nothing like Green.

Wow! Who are these new posters? So many negative threads from new posters or people that only post when our Cats lose. I hate to lose as bad as anyone, but I will never lose faith in Cal and our team. This is the first game of the year. Yes, we got thumped but anyone that thinks our Cats will not be one of the top teams in the country by March is just crazy. We have a long way to go, and I think most of us over - hyped this team. As UK fans we seem to always do that every year in the beginning. Duke has a great team and all of us should knew that coming in to this game. I hate puke and losing to them really hurts, if you're a real BBNM. I love Kentucky, Cal and this team and they will be ready to beat anyone come March. How do I know that? History tells us that our teams always improve as the year progresses. We have Cal and a great bunch of Kids that want to learn. I'm getting off the board for awhile because as always this place is just so depressing after a loss.

It all starts with guard play, always has, always will. We need to start and play Hagans or quickly and stick with them. Quade, clearly isn't the long term answer

Dukes floor spacing and ball movement (via passing) killed us. It also leads to much better set shots. (It's why our teams that have shooters on paper have games where we go 2-15. Spacing and Ball movement is terrible which leads to tough, contested 3's)

The Cal method of ball movement Via Penetration and forcing the drive works when you have elite talent/athleticism. But we don't have Rose/Evans/Wall/Bledsoe/Fox. Maybe Hagans can get better as the season goes and provide the initial blow by to set everything else up, but right now he is out of control and a turnover waiting to happen. He also doesn't have the size/strength of those other guards.

Everyone wanted to hate on Herro last night but he was on of the few that was able to create his shot without being set up by someone else. They didn't fall. But I'd rather see that opposed to a head down drive into bodies in the paint and slinging it at the rim.

I'd start IQ just because he is under control right now and play Hagans at the 2. But I trust IQ initiating the offense more right now..

2017 with monk bam and fox was the best team in the country by march so again worthless post

Pg makes a couple free throws and we probably make the final 4 with the youngest team ever in the ncaa

Then has the nerve to joke in the press conference that the fans will watch more tape on the game than he will. Didn't find this too funny considering his 8 million dollar salary. He didn't have one single player on this team prepared to play. Arrogance will be the downfall of Cal.

It just amazes me that some of these guys claim to be UK fan but want to completely flip the program after a bad loss. I knew we had some idiots but theyve all seem to come out of the woodwork now.

We are lacking a SGA or a D ‘Aaron fox just some sort of play maker at point guard position. Man oh man how I wish we had Whitley this season.

Jeez, I'm so sick of people bringing up the Bahama trip. Our fans made WAY too much of that trip.

Those were just fun summer exhibition games at a resort where our inferior opponents were playing decidedly relaxed defense and at a relaxed pace.

The difference between the Bahama games and last night is not so much that we were worse, instead it's that we were facing a different level of competition playing with an entirely different level of intensity.

This is the real thing, that was just for fun.

I agree with that but explain the two exhibition games. We looked immensely worse in both of those games vs the Bahamas.

Tell you what I'm sick of. I'm sick of hearing how young we are. Duke was as young or younger than UK. Dropped 118 on UK.
This team had extra practices and a chance to play in real games against pretty good competition. Didn't look like they had done any of that last night. Cal got his hat handed to him. His team looked lost. He looked lost.
He needs to do some self examination imo. If you're gonna go with this OAD, you better get the top kids.
I am a Cal guy, but last night was a debacle on every front. Coaching, playing, and executing.

Nobody is more pissed than I am, but the 2016-2017 team wasn't good? Won 32 games and was a last second shot (and dirty ref) away from a national championship. That Fox, Monk, Bam trio was damn good and would NOT have let Duke just run them like that group did last night.

That said, I do agree that the program hasn't quite been the same since that Wisconsin loss. Just doesn't have that edge and we are failing to land top 5, elite talent.
