Just all the swagger and cockiness back then wow just wow ... He definitely changed it all up over the course of the years and diluted the schedule.. He definitely doesn't have that same swagger he had back then though he definitely isn't the same John Calipari!
We need that cal back....unfortunately, that cal is locked away in the basketball HOF forever.

Cal told the future of UK basketball and he has delivered on that, meaning total roster turnovers, weaker pre season competition, ugly basketball early. We all lived with it when he was getting the best of the best. Now he is getting second tier guys and it is bad, they are not typical OAD type players, but we still have roster turnover. Yes, Cal absolutely has to have top 5 talent to win big. Need more proof? We are at 500 against top 25 teams since 2016. And that is with a watered down pre season schedule. That also includes losing to the Evansville and Richmonds of the world. Not acceptable at UK. Only the people wearing deep blue tint glasses accept this.

He can fix everything if he wants to. If he brings back most of the players on this team and keeps the non-NBA kids for 3 or 4 years, everything will fall into place. It’s that simple.
His program works, but hitting the reset button every year, negates the progress that the program makes.

Cal can't win at an elite level without elite freshmen. He needs guys like Hardy and Cade but isn't willing to provide them perks. It's why we are not going to return to the mountain top under Cal.
What do you mean, like pay them to come here?

Thats what I was wondering. I’ve read lunacy here that we should bend the rules to win. I wonder how many of the most negative here ever even attended UK?
For one you can’t force a kid to come here, case in point hardy is not going to college no matter what you could have done and Cade was committed but his brother won out in the end.

I don't see progress, all I see in the past few years is regression.

thats pretty much the fan discontent that has sat in. We never return enough players to have anything to build on. Assuming KY can keep their momentum they have started to build on the remainder of the season, we will be treated to at best one month of quality basketball only to watch the mass departures and with a new team try it all again next year. The verbial rinse and repeat.

when I watched the first game this year I felt like I had awoke from a 3-5 year coma as not one single player was recognizable and not on last years roster.

if it happens again this year then most will know we are screwed as a program.

Well yeah, because he knows one way to coach. It works when you have lottery picks, but when your best players are 2nd tier 5* kids with an AAU mentality, you have to change it up. Either way, you aren't going to win titles when Kevin Knox or BJB are your best players, but at least try something different. Heck, he tried to turn Skal into Cousins. Square peg-round hole.

It took 11 losses this season before Cal realized he needed to change his offense. Most of us have been saying it for years, well, this team goes on scoring runs that are very impressive. Like I said earlier, if he's going to be our coach, I hope he stays with this offense for the rest of his time here.

It’s gotta suck for those are so bitter to know that he might be here another decade. What do they do? Get another hobby? Or do they waste their life and obsess, negatively and chase their own tails day in day out, accomplishing nothing other than hugging themselves to make it all better?
Keep pumping pumper, you’ll kill the program

This is the biggest problem with Cal. He should have changed to this offense FOUR, FIVE years ago.

He has another year like this next year I guarantee he won't be here after next year . I don't care he has a lifetime contract that contract won't mean crap! The people that matter won't put up with multiple crap seasons like this!

We had another 2 out of 3 really good seasons after those quotes, then another 1 just 2 years after that, when he is in that mode and has that fire i have nothing to say. Competitive Cal can keep us where we are supposed to be. Lackadaisical Cal will normally get us Elite 8 with a short few sooner exits, but seasons like this are downright unacceptable. Just despicable. I am glad we seem be trending up, but unless we keep some of the players we are seeing improvement with, it means nothing...

It really sucks that we have been having all of these horrible seasons lately...I mean 25 wins and 6 losses last year is god awful. Heck the horrible season before that one at 30 wins and 7 losses is pretty embarrassing.

With loses to the likes of Evansville! What have we done in the NCAA tournament lately?
Where did the s on "likes" come from? Thats the only team like that. Even this season, but we didn't play a single team like that this year so that doesn't mean anything. A loss in the 3rd game negates a team that finished ranked 8th, won 10 of the last 11 games and was one of the hottest teams in the nation, who just had a will to win so we won games where we weren't playing well but worked and won anyway and was at least an elite 8 team probably further really and could FINALLY hit free throws?

Also during Evansville Quickley was not Quickley yet, he wasn't even starting. Last years team getting to play in the NCAAT would have quelled a lot of talk. The year before went to Overtime before falling short of another final 4. Year before was not good, year before that we had a great year the entire season, won a thriller with one of if not the best performances by a UK player under Cal to beat UNC, then got hosed and barely lost or that would've been a final 4 in the rematch. Not as good as first half Cal, but if this season wasn't going this bad Noone would be acting like we sucked the last 4 years with only one not good year and it wasn't terrible.

I mean it's right there from his own mouth. "We have to leave ourselves room to dumb down our schedule because there will be years we know we won't be capable of playing with some of these teams." That's how I read it. Same old argument we've all had...some fans laud him because hey, you've got to do that. Others like me see that and say "no duh" but then continue the line of thought to conclude why the hell should Kentucky be doing that?

he at least needs to get on the hire family train. We have pretty useless assistant coaches on the sidle line most times so why not. Cade Cunningham would have hidden many early season flaws and we would be pretty solid playing like we are now. Askew being a guy who could spell guards for 18 minutes or so a game would be perfect.
